I don't think they're being deliberately misleading, the decline was a very real trend for decades and there's plenty of supporting data for it, but that stagnated a decade ago and sharply reverse in the last couple years. Obviously there are extenuating circumstances that it make it unclear what to expect going forward, but it's not at all unreasonable to be concerned about the thousands of excess murders in the past couple years relative to previous years.
I don't think it's particularly useful to look at single-year aberrations over the overall pattern. It's the same statistically misleading approach climate change deniers use when they point to an unusually high global temperature in one year, and then an unusually low global temperature in some later year, and pretend the climate isn't warming at all.

Having watched the vid its seems very similar to the new Zealand attack probably because of the go pro angle but still looked like he also wrote stuff on the rifle.

Death or life in prison for that dude.

Why the hell would you watch the livestreamed murder of actual people. Don't answer that - there's no good answer.

Aaron Salter, the security guard at the store who attempted to stop the shooter, is a real G, though.

Shame civilians in the US have easy access to all kinds of firepower and things like body armor to protect themselves before going on a shooting spree. Just like that time a few guys in CA knocked over a bank while wearing full body armor and the LAPD had to go to some local gun stores for some higher powered weapons because their service weapons were completely ineffective.

Maybe like...ye average civilian doesn't need access to body armor. Or at least we wouldn't if getting shot in the US wasn't an apparently commonplace thing. Maybe I should look into a few comfy ones to start wearing around just in case some deeply inadequate white supremacist decides to go on a shooting spree in my neck of the woods.

You wanted to see people's reactions to terror? To being shot? This is not a thing to be curious about. Please be better.

its more "you cant shame the shameless"
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.

Decent article on how easy access to body armor likely enabled the shooter to survive being shot by security guard Aaron Salter, or at least not have it interrupt his shooting very much. And how there have been attempts to limit easy access to this kind of equipment that have previously failed.

Such a body armor ban, had it been in effect, may have provided a level of deterrence to the gunman, who complained bitterly in his manifesto of the state’s “cucked” firearms restrictions and his inability to shop for a better rifle online.
This is some omega-cringe from literal fuckin neo-nazi's. Can't be bothered to go out to the store to pick up supplies for their planned mass shooting, they need it delivered to their front doors alongside the doordash driver dropping off some chicken tendies.

Love right wing losers still being absolutely obsessed with cucks and cuckoldry, especially since they're truly the biggest cucks around.

I mean, neo-nazi Nick Fuentes is out there arguing that dating women is get and that he, a dateless incel who just jerks off to who knows what kinda porn, is the pinnacle of heterosexual masculinity.

I'm sorry y'all, but if you're a guy dating a woman that's apparently pretty gay. Having heterosexual sex is also pretty gay. The only way to be straight is to be an incel - https://twitter.com/KelgoreTrout/sta...11771858952192

There's a video of him saying these things on video.

Like...Tucker...bro...that's literally the American conservative movement to a T right now. I don't think you could have explained it any better.

"The document is not recognizably left wing, or right wing. It's not really political at all."

I mean...it is. It very much is. It's very much in-line with many of the other far-right extremists we've seen over the years.

It's also coming out that he probably just straight-up plagiarized whole sections off earlier shooters, like the Christchurch shooter's manifesto, meaning these words aren't even accurately an expression of the Buffalo shooter's personal views, really.

    https://www.wivb.com/news/buffalo-su...cement-theory/

A document being incoherently political does not make it not political, it just means the author was incoherent and probably ignorant as fuck about basic terminology and definitions.

Obviously it's not full proof, but a lot of shootings could be prevented.
The biggest problem with that: Almost nobody who 1. Has a mental illness 2. Really likes guns 3. Is a white supremacist - actually believes in mental health care. It's all liberal scams to steal their money or too expensive.

Small story, I applied to the US Air Force and Navy. Both wanted to fast track me to an officer position with my ASVAB and OAR scores. I got my medical records, including my psych. I was denied because I had some mild, non-suicidal depression as a teenager as documented by my psych.

One of my "friends" (he was more my girlfriend's stalker but that's besides the point) had held a gun to his head screaming that he was going to kill himself at least 20 times to various people. He got into the Navy no problem. Why? He didn't have a psych, so he didn't have a medical record of mental illness. And I've been told by everyone who actually joined the US armed forces that you're not supposed to hand over your psych records because the recruiters won't be able to find them ANYWAY due to privacy laws.

We all know conservatives mostly don't trust in or use psychs, and the ones that do typically aren't the white supremacists. So I think a mental check requirement would change absolutely nothing. Even if you required someone to get a mental health test to get a gun, the mentally ill white supremacists would just sit there, arms crossed, and say they're fine. Because even crazy people can act normal if they want to.

Also, remember guys, having multiple mass shootings done by extremist right wing terrorists EVERY SINGLE YEAR isn't a big deal, and is not indicative of a pattern of violence. Meanwhile, knocking down trash cans makes Antifa the enemy of humanity. WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE TRASH CANS?

That kind of venemous hate is entirely separate; a character failing that runs deep and wouldn't be corrected if they got psychiatric care, nor if they were offered information to educate them out of their ignorance.

Every time people use either for an excuse, it's an attempt to hand-wave some measure of the offender's personal responsibility for their actions, and it's gotta stop. These assholes aren't mentally ill, and they're not acting out of ignorance. I've known poorly-educated people with schizophrenia who were lovely, and the worst they got was terrified if their symptoms were getting the better of them, not violent.

This guy, and those who do similar acts, are evil. They are awful, hateful, violent people, and they're the only ones responsible for their choices.
I don't think the problem is the discussion of mental illness or ignorance (in this case, ignorance borne from misinformation), it's the people doing it. When a Conservative redirects blame of someone's actions to some external force, or when they try and portray someone who does an "evil" act as a victim, they're doing it to try and minimize (or distract from) the act itself, not seriously engaging in trying to figure out why the person did the act in the first place. It would be nice if we could assume that everyone who wants to have the discussion is well motivated and isn't trying to push something, but unfortunately that's not the world we live in. If we could have discussions about how people became the way they are (i.e.: how they became "evil"), it would be great in helping understand what processes led to this conclusion so we can rectify them, but we can't have them because of badly motivated people.

In America specifically, we see with Conservatives are now abusing the power they illegitimately took (i.e.: rushing through supreme court picks) and are looking to use this power to remove decades worth of protections for American citizens (esp. women). It gets worse when considering how Conservatives don't need to legislate anything in the Senate, as they delegate the implementation of barbaric laws to the states under the façade of "state's rights". It's a shitshow.

The saddest part of these types of shootings is that each side is trying to score points. This thread is a perfect example of this.
