The thread is just asking whether or not people intend to accept it and doesn't require a multi-page running argument about interpreting the US constitution or real-world identity politics. So, again, let's move on from the rolling diatribe.

Accept like everyone else, because none of use read it, and none of us care. It's not even for the players, its for the media, for the public, so they can use it for an future , if they get in trouble, related by this kind of things. It's a trick like in a porn site Are u 18? they don't care just click ina site and see the adds and get money. It's formality.

    Great point.
So, it's okay to witness mass murder animated, but talking about it should be a bannable offense?

It's okay for characters in-game to say racist things, but the playable characters can't?

The irony. If you don't think that a discussion is necessary, then lock it and leave it open to be voted upon.

Yeah, I don't even know where to start with this terrible logic.

Let me put it this way. Lemme know the next time your mother or your grandmother are watching a violent movie with lots of swearing in it. I'll come by and start verbally abusing them. After all, they shouldn't watch a violent movie with swearing if they don't want me to verbally abuse them, eh?

Bad analogy. It would be like you're walking around in public and you hear someone saying something you don't like. It doesn't have to be directed at anyone. You can speak without speaking about any one in particular right? That's the point. "Hate speech" is too ambiguous.

It can if the person can provide evidence to back up their claim. I'm not saying they could provide such evidence, but ideas don't shut down discussion, people do. That's how it's supposed to work. If you're the one unwilling to have a discussion simply because someone holds different views, up until a couple years ago, the ACLU would say that you were the problem.

On topic... while I suspect this will just create a different type of toxicity, I don't see this having any impact on whether or not I choose to play the game; nor does it have any impact on the fact that I have always believed that players should attempt to be civil and respectful of each other.

People use the term "woke" like it's an insult -- an adjective to describe something or someone. How is woke bad? To me it seems like a compliment. A person who isn't actively aware of important facts and issues primarily affecting racial and social justice, sounds like a dipshit to me -- or at least living in a bubble, which isn't a place I'd want to be.
I am unaware of a woke right...but I am not right wing. The problem, with 'woke' culture is that it's self declared champions seem to, all too often,
fail to realize that bullying those who are less woke than them isn't social justice.
Further, the degree of impatience with anyone a single degree off of their particular brand of beliefs is reason for distain that often leads to a canibalizing of their own belief group. ie: maybe John is a leftwinger, but I saw him have coffee with Larry, so now John is a nazi according to me!

I don't have any particular plans on being an asshole to others in-game, or saying any tasteless or offensive shit in Trade, so I don't have an issue with the social contract on a personal level. I also don't particularly see an issue with Blizzard trying to emphasize their discouragement poor or offensive behavior in-game. If the social contract produces a cleaner community in WoW overall, either via people taking it seriously and being mindful of what they say and do in-game, via people not taking it seriously and being punished more promptly and consistently for shit behavior, or via people removing themselves from the equation entirely by quitting WoW over the social contract because of tyranny, politics, legalese, hypocrisy, or whatever "reason" they decide to come up with... good. That's a good thing.

Yeah, but when some of the few people that are left playing the game start to get banned for things that are borderline controversial it's going to ruin what's left of the community.

If the community is that toxic from core to shell, that a social contract and more serious moderation of player behavior completely destabilizes it and kills the game, then WoW deserved to die.

Thankfully, I don't think the playerbase is that microscopic yet, nor do I think that the majority of said playerbase are quite that openly toxic, so you'll pardon me if the threat of community doomsday passes over my head a bit.

I find it hard to believe anyone who's been on these forums for 10 years, or alive in the last 5, doesn't know what "woke" means. Regardless... there are plenty of words with dictionary meanings that sound fine, but which in actual use mean something quite rude, whether you're talking about female dogs or a pack of smokes. Woke, as a pejorative, refers to people who speak on "racial and social justice" issues as if they have the gospel truth of things and all others not preaching from the same bible are at best sinners and heathens. The woke in this sense are often hypocrites, extremely judgmental, and practice a modern version of McCarthyism.

Neither did most people i would bet. They scrolled to the bottom and hit accept like everything in a video game. Then they just keep on playing the way they always have.

I guess when it comes down to it... most people in this thread will only care about this social contract when a GM whispers them during their LFR run, telling them they are about to be removed from the game shortly and temporarily silenced after being reported 100x for being toxic during Lords of Dread.

  18. #698
i dont really see a problem with it only people who will are the toxic ones, its basicly the same as the TOS you accepted in beginning

  19. #699
It's a opportunity to start weeding out toxicity. Of course I clicked accept and then re-upped my 6-month sub. It's about time they took the community more seriously and put a plan in motion to expunge people who have no clue how to act to other players.
