"The police were doing nothing," Angeli Rose Gomez, a parent of two children at Robb Elementary School, told the newspaper. "They were just standing outside the fence. They weren't going in there or running anywhere."

The Journal reported that Gomez "was one of numerous parents who began encouraging—first politely, and then with more urgency—police and other law enforcement to enter the school sooner."

"After a few minutes, she said, U.S. Marshals put her in handcuffs, telling her she was being arrested for intervening in an active investigation," according to the Journal. "She said she saw a father tackled and thrown to the ground by police and a third pepper-sprayed. Once freed from her cuffs, Ms. Gomez made her distance from the crowd, jumped the school fence, and ran inside to grab her two children. She sprinted out of the school with them."

I think a major issue in the US is a lack of caring and honesty from politicians. I think both sides are pretty self-serving, even if I agree with Democratic views.

Everyone is self serving to a degree. And if you're a professional "decision maker", you will get detached from the emotional side from it. Just like a surgeon better be detached from treating the slab of meat on his table. You don't want emotions, you want professionalism in some jobs.

It's really hard for me to understand people's constant paranoia about politicians honesty. I don't give a shit if they're honest or not. I want something, they promise to do something, if they don't do it, I won't support them next time around. It's not that frickin' hard. Of course, I'm talking about a population that voted Trump into office. It's so easy to blame politicians lying when the harsher truth is that most Americans are just too.. um, one-dimensional and/or lost in their ideological trench wars to see the big picture. This whole gun debate is a perfect example for that.

Conservatives keep trying to spin damage control for these cops, but nothing is going to empower potential school shooters more than seeing a bunch of cops be to cowardly to even stop them. A little more ammo and a little more active of a shooter after 40 minutes means there might not be much of a school left to rescue.

Even Abbott is throwing local cops under the bus.

“I am livid about what happened,” Abbott said during a news conference in Uvalde, the site of the shooting where a gunman killed 19 students and two adults Tuesday. “The information I was given turned out, in part, to be inaccurate, and I am absolutely livid about that.”

Not all of them apply really, but in 96 we had a middle school kid shoot up his school. 89 we had a guy use an assault rifle to murder elementary school kids. 88 had an asshole try to do a Sandy Hook, but he only had a .22 pistol. There are others in there. Nothing moves the needle for these people.

Rafael Cruz, speaking at the NRA convention, apparently memory holing that the past three (I believe) mass shootings at schools all included "good guys with guns" who failed to stop the shooters.

Cruz called for every school to have a single point of entry guarded by multiple armed police officers, or if need be, military veterans. He added that schools should have bulletproof and locking doors to each classroom.
