So you're saying next active shooter, they should deputize the local gravy seals to strap, lock and load, to take the shooter down?
Without proper training, guidance, or anything except "PEW PEW 'MURICA" backing them up?
The chances of this fuck fingered ramble being slaughtered like kids in a school are....

How long would it take to implement this plan? Mildly curious.

Well hey, give them the chance to fullfil their dreams of being the good guy with a gun, and one of three things happens:

    A. It actually works.
    B. Nobody shows up and you can safely collect all their guns away on account of them being liars and cowards.
    C. They fuck up and you can send them on the death row.

I can't think of a person you wouldn't have to drag out of that building if they in that situation, assuming its the guy being referred to. The guy being referred to was disarmed and held outside, so it might be him? I would think it would have been harder to hold a person in that situation back - including anyone who respected the person. Then again talking about these guys who sat yards away from kids being slaughtered while they themselves were armed to the teeth in a corner.
Yes, its still a cluster f*ck. Even what I described in the video, they police retreated when there was gunfire and if people watch they did stand around while gunfire was going on. So if we take Punisher, possible wife's husband out of the picture still plenty to scrutinize here.

Uvalde officer criticized for checking phone was communicating with dying wife, lawmaker says
    Fri, July 15, 2022 at 2:14 PM·2 min read
A Uvalde police officer criticized over video of him checking his phone during the massacre at Robb Elementary School is the husband of a teacher who was killed in the classroom and had contacted him after after being shot, according to a Texas lawmaker investigating the shooting.
So it does appear that the cop with the punisher logo on his phone was as suspected the husband of the teacher that was shot and killed.

I mean, we probably should have predicted that part. Incidentally I only watched the edited shorter video, I have no idea how torn up this guy was while he stared at his Punisher wallpaper, hoping beyond hope his wife would send something. Anything.

I'm not sure that particularly matters.

He still sat on his ass and didn't try and save anyone. Not even his dying wife.
The Punisher logo with the American flag used by a cop as a phone wallpaper still screams "complete dogshit human being".

I feel bad for his wife. I'm wondering why I should feel bad for the husband who just sat there and let her die.

I won't shit on him using his phone. Everything else, though? Yeah. Completely shittable.

Ruiz told officials on site that Eva Mireles, who was a fourth grade teacher at Robb Elementary School, had called him to tell him “she had been shot and was dying,” McCraw told senators in Austin.

“And what happened to him,” McCraw explained, “is he tried to move forward into the hallway. He was detained and they took his gun away from him and escorted him off the scene.”

You're confusing "not bothering to read the article first because I try and avoid doomscrolling myself into a depression coma" with "willful ignorance". Willful ignorance requires actively refusing information.

So sure; if it comes out that he tried to rush in to save his wife, that's a good thing. The punisher wallpaper is still shitty as fuck, and the timeline sure seems to be off on this in ways that call for explanation (he's checking his phone on the footage at 11:36am, and we know he's still wandering around at 11:48am, so that's before he was detained and removed, and it's a solid 15 minutes after the gunman was seen in the footage and he still hasn't done his duty to engage the shooter by that time. We don't have a timestamp for the point he was detained, that I'm aware of at least, but it would have to be after that 11:48 point.

See, that's the thing. I'm willing to accept new information and adjust accordingly. I'll admit mistakes. Comparing that to the people I was talking to is just being intentionally shitty and baity.

If the combined law enforcement agencies had 401 officers they would have rushed the gunman. <snark>

This appears to be the report in question.

On Sunday, a Texas House committee released the most exhaustive account yet of the shooter, his planning, his attack and the fumbling response he provoked.

The 77-page report, reviewed by The Texas Tribune, provides a damning portrayal of a family unable to recognize warning signs, a school district that had strayed from strict adherence to its safety plan and a police response that disregarded its own active-shooter training.

It explains how the gunman, who investigators believe had never fired a gun before May 24, was able to stockpile military-style rifles, accessories and ammunition without arousing suspicion from authorities, enter a supposedly secure school unimpeded and indiscriminately kill children and adults.

In total, 376 law enforcement officers — a force larger than the garrison that defended the Alamo — descended upon the school in a chaotic, uncoordinated scene that lasted for more than an hour. The group was devoid of clear leadership, basic communications and sufficient urgency to take down the gunman, the report says.
Okay so, you know how many news sites have "related" stories in/near the main text, making cutting and pasting a pain? Well, I'm going to pause my quoting like the article paused theirs, because of

A year before Uvalde shooting, gunman had threatened women, carried around a dead cat and been nicknamed “school shooter”

Just a reminder: this shooter, who had barely turned 18 before purchasing a weapon of war, had never failed any kind of medical test. Texas also doesn't seem to care for "red flag" laws or actions. So the people who knew he was insane couldn't do anything, not in Texas at least, and the people who could have done something had no reason to know he was insane.

This, more than most things, is the biggest flaw in the "only criminals will have guns" bullshit. Every warning sign was ignored, because there was nowhere to report him. I could literally tell every single person here in a PM "I am going to walk into a store, buy an AR-15, and murder ten people August 11" and nobody here could do anything about it.

Just kidding. I live in New York. Not only could you call the police and have me arrested, I couldn't get an AR-15 to save my life.

    Back to the new story:

Notably, the investigation is the first so far to criticize the inaction of state and federal law enforcement, while other reports and public accounts by officials have placed the blame squarely on Uvalde school police Chief Pete Arredondo, for his role as incident commander, and other local police who were among the first to arrive.

The report also reveals for the first time that the overwhelming majority of responders were federal and state law enforcement: 149 were U.S. Border Patrol, and 91 were state police — whose responsibilities include responding to “mass attacks in public places.” There were 25 Uvalde police officers and 16 sheriff’s deputies. Arredondo’s school police force accounted for five of the officers on the scene. The rest of the force was made up of neighboring county law enforcement, U.S. Marshals, and federal Drug Enforcement Agency officers.

The investigators said that in the absence of a strong incident commander, another officer could have — and should have — stepped up to the task.
I am going to stop here again. I have said, repeatedly, that my major issue came from the top. If there were no orders at all, that's a command issue. If the orders given were bad, that's a command issue. There were no good orders, we already know that. This report takes my comments and says "oh, just you wait, motherfucker". Because the poor training of the Uvadle school district police? No longer a factor.

So far, I've been defending a few police given orders to hold fast -- or given no orders at all and not really in a good ethical place to go rogue and run into a school firing wildly -- as a devil's advocate, giving them all possible credit. Well, with 400 cops, I think the rules have changed. I cannot see how 400 cops would show up, and nobody at all would give any orders at all, for an hour.

The police were told to hold fast. They were ordered to stay put. There is no other realistic option. If there were 400 police, and somehow with 400 police nobody giving any orders, someone would have acted. Six or four or even two cops would have met and said "look, he's behind that door we have surrounded, let's shoot him 27 times" or "Hey you with the Punisher wallpaper, which room is your wife in?" or something.

EDIT: Before anyone even attempts to contradict me on this, the report specifically spells out, this is what the Border Patrol did. They showed up, didn't ask anyone for permission, went into the school and shot the murderer. The end.

“These local officials were not the only ones expected to supply the leadership needed during this tragedy,” the report said. “Hundreds of responders from numerous law enforcement agencies — many of whom were better trained and better equipped than the school district police — quickly arrived on the scene.”

The other responders “could have helped to address the unfolding chaos.”

The three committee members — Rep. Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock; Rep. Joe Moody, D-El Paso and former state Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman — said they sought to create a comprehensive account the Legislature can use to craft policies aimed at preventing future massacres. The trio also sought to present an accurate narrative to the public, in contrast to several conflicting and retracted accounts provided by other officials, including the governor and state police, in the seven weeks since the tragedy that have undermined residents’ trust in the ongoing investigations.

They dedicated the document to the 21 people killed in the shooting, and first unveiled their findings during a private meeting with Uvalde residents on Sunday.

“The Committee issues this interim report now, believing the victims, their families, and the entire Uvalde community have already waited too long for answers and transparency,” the report reads.
There's more, but I've said enough. Now it's your turn. Everyone here who has said something on the topic, I will leave one final line from the report that echoes what most of you have said:

They failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety
    Respond. Anyone, everyone, respond.

Because you called it, and you were right.

No. There was one who wasn't.

DPS Special Agent Luke Williams disregarded a request that he assist in securing a perimeter outside and instead entered the building to help clear rooms. He found a student hiding in a boys bathroom stall with his legs up so he couldn’t be seen. The boy refused to come out until Williams proved he was a police officer, which he did by showing his badge beneath the door of the stall.

Williams then encountered a group of officers clustered at the end of the hallway where the shooter was and overheard someone ask “y’all don’t know if there’s kids in there?”

“If there’s kids in there we need to go in there,” Williams said at 11:56 a.m., according to footage captured by his body camera.

An officer in the hallway responded to Williams that “whoever was in charge would figure that out,” the report said.
Williams ignored orders and went into a shooting/hostage situation on his own, and started searching the place. He could get fired for this, and while I'd disagree with that decision I'd at least understand why. I don't think they'll do that, not in this context.

If nobody else, at least Special Agent Williams was not a pussy.

Fire him? The backlash would be phenomenal. Can you see an interview if he's fired and stops giving a fuck about his former coworkers?
"Yes, I disobeyed orders. While they were pulling each others peckers to the tune of children being shot, I took it upon myself to do my duty as a police officer, and saved the life of a child. Which is more than my former employer did."

One. One guy that can look in the mirror without shame. And yet, knowing what that kind of person is like, he does feel it.

The children were 9, 10, and 11yrs old. That hits.
