Multi-dollar company like Blizzard is able to do more than that.
If that's what you are looking for in games then Diablo probably isn't aimed at you then.

It's just the game letting you know that an option is available.

-It's not a predatory business model. There's nothing unethical about it.
-Nobody is forced to play and nobody is entitled to their preferred game experience unless they created the game.
-You can experience most of the game for free.
-As far as I know F2P players can still achieve almost all of the same things but at a slower rate.
You can't tell me this is not a Blizzard-Account in disguise lol

that's the thing with triple A games these days, they are aimed more for the rich, casino going, whale players of the world, where more money put in is more engagement going in and more engagement going in is more encouragement for these type of practices, which create a cultural norm. Also Diablo Immortal is a mobile game so not sure what people expected from this, Its been this way for nearly 15 years.

If people want to play those games fine, but there are plenty of great games that don't have these practices and actions. I think people generally just look over them.

I have made it pretty much clear that I will never buy Blizzard games again and have been pretty faithful to my promise, same goes with a few other triple A companies. I mostly just play indy these days, or smaller double a companies (is double-A a thing?)

"People fear, not death, but having life taken from them. Many waste the life given to them, occupying themselves with things that do not matter. When the end comes, they say they did not have time enough to spend with loved ones, to fulfill dreams, to go on adventures they only talked about... But why should you fear death if you are happy with the life you have led, if you can look back on everything and say, 'Yes, I am content. It is enough.'" - Wynne ( Dragon Age: Origins.)

And i completely stand by my opinion. If you do not voice your concerns when you see bad behavior you are a sheep.
Sheep are well known to start bleating when they see something they don't like.

Also by your logic you just called yourself a sheep.
Yes, let's all revel in the irony.

    This is the real problem.
Poeple in general are 'trained' enough to see MTX, P2W, lootboxes, DLCs (even before the game is released), buying skins and more as something totally normal.

I will just stick playing D2.
After all these years i still love this game.

Just like Blizz trained people to see that locking half the game behind an expansion pack was normal, then paying a monthly subscription for a game you bought was normal. The trick is to stop and think for a moment what the game is worth for your, and if you don't like the price don't pay it.

i mean it was a game essentially made by the kings of candy crush and just ported to PC because backlash
it is not a defensible practice but until more countries place stricter regulations it will continue to be a norm

Thats a misquote. I didnt type "a video game company selling you things is abuse". My intent was to showcase that people who do not offer resistance when they face blatant bad behavior are easy to abuse.

As for your second paragraph you are just making up complete and utter random bs. A sheep, when used as a term, describes someone who blindly follows directions without asking questions as to why. Often made fun of by saying they would follow leaders if they jumped from a bridge. Meaning someone who do not question bad behavior and speak their mind.

You are obviously arguing from bad faith here - and even worse you are insinuating that everyone sees this from your pov. Thats three fallacies in what - 3 lines?

You going for some kind of record?

This isn't new at all, XP potions and the like have been in games for ages. I think even WoW has something similar. Is this your "mega cope," pretending old things are new and calling people shills for liking things you don't like?

True. Netease owns the diablo franchise so they decide the monetization model, derp.

Hopefully at least the EU really wakes up to this soon. And after that the US might follow. It makes sense at least.

Yes - this is the main reason i do not play retail WoW anymore and having laugh at people buying 6months of subs in advance for unknown content (but getting 'free' mount).

From what I briefly saw of the game and the videos I have seen of others playing Blizzard has doubled down on every predatory, disgusting behaviour that P2W games have. The mental tricks of luring people in with rewards, dailies, small free tastes of what it'd be play to spend money, cheap 1-time only bundles to get you into spending just a little to get the ball rolling, every penny spent is some form of gambling mechanic to get those gambling addicts hooked etc. etc... Every mechanic in the game, every prompt, every action is designed with trying to get the player to spend money ahead of anything else.

Diablo Immortal is everything bad about current-gen games, games whos mechanics are more focused on mental warefare with the player to make as much money as possible and it saddens me than the company and game at the forefront of all these disgusting behavours is both the company and game series that I once loved.

I understand companies exist to make money, but that doesn't excuse disgusting behaviour and these predatory mechanics are exactly that. I just want game companies to be about making good games again. People should spend money on your game because your game is good and they want to support it, not because they was coaxed into spending it.
This is why gambling regulators should be brought to bear unmercifully on gaming companies.

Why would you even play this trash? It was designed for the Chinese mobile market..

    100% agree.
Buy to play expansions and sub-fees have been in the MMORPG genre since the start (at least Ultima Online and Everquest already had them). People paying 6 months subs just know they will play the game regardless and want to save money compared to monthly sub. Sometimes you get extra rewards too, but it's not the main purpose. Atleast this is how it is for me.

I only quickly tried D:I so far, but the game seems pretty fun for what it is. Maybe if I want to no-life it and get the best possible gear I would need to spend money, but I don't want to and probably won't buy anything. I can still have some fun gameplay for free.

It's not so much that it "doesn't work" than it is a lot less profitable. Y'know, like selling drugs is more profitable than running a normal business.

But since these models are legitimately unhealthy for the users (particularly children), they should absolutely be regulated and/or banned, which will force publishers to do better.

  19. #119
16+ is not really children though. You can't really compare it with selling drugs, because that is illegal for the most part. It's more like selling a basic car for 10k and when you get all the additional stuff you need then it costs 30k. Except here the car costs nothing and the additional things are the only cost.

I know... i did it too at the beginning of WoW and even before that in UO for quite some time.

You are 'trained' to blindly pay them in advance for content that can be total dogshit.

That is how these p2w mobile games work.
At beginning 'everything' is for free - many currencies/gems/gold drop in tons... but suddenly in a few hours you will hit a wall that is kinda frustrating - you will use your wallet or quit (which is hard because you started to liking the game and want more).
