How would you update old world zones/dungeons?

As it says in the title, how would you use all the post-Cata events and characters to update old world zones and dungeons in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor?

I think an easy one would be Stormwind Stockades: currently the most valuable target is Sira Moonwarden, the crazy evil warden who is now imprisoned there as of Shadows Rising. I think it's canon(?) that Hogger is dead or escaped, so she could be the ultimate boss in that dungeon while the other wings deal with Stormwind prisoners that show new criminal groups that have popped up since the second fall of the Defias. The elementals could be removed to show the damage from Cataclysm has been taken care of and to give the Stockades more of the old classic feel.

The Lordaeron area of EK would have something to do with the conflict between the Scarlets and Calia Menethil/the Forsaken, which has already been set up by the end of BFA, and you can easily spin a plot that goes through Tirisfal/WPL/EPL as the Forsaken have to fight them off and deal with the possible Calia child that the Scarlets have taken (and maybe converted).

Another area that would be interesting is Ashenvale. If they want to really push that the truce is legitimate they will have to retool the area to remove the faction war theme. This would mean that new enemies should be dealt with, so... why not the Botani, who we saw escaping into Kalimdor during the Mag'har recruitment quest? They would make an interesting nature villain for Nelves (and Horde) to deal with and could involve the remaining Satyrs either siding with the botani to cause chaos or even siding with the Nelves because even the Botani are too much to deal with.

Just a few ideas. How would you update certain zones and dungeons to show the passage of time?

I would love to see Scarlet Monastery revamped. Having a big sprawling Karazhan style mega dungeon would be amazing. All wings are separated but you could make the whole thing intertwined with hidden passageways through hidden doors in the library. Or go through the crypts into the Cathedral etc. would be awesome to see the HD Rez.

Well first things first, the passage of time needs to be outright acknowledged. Blizzard confirmed as of now, BFA is the new "default" leveling experience but hopefully that changes in the expansion after Dragonflight. Adding the new Explorer's Isle starting experience was a smart move as new players don't see the 10+ year old Cata starting experience. Here's hoping a new starting experience for DKs, DHs and Pandaren is introduced as well. Another hard old world revamp is now unavoidable with everything we know happened in just MoP, Legion and BFA.

Here's just a few zones I'm looking at in particular:

    • Duskwood: Darkshire's Althea Ebonlocke is revealed to be a traitor in Legion. We don't see her again after she's driven away as far as I know so it would make sense to make finding out what happened to her a major plot point.
    • Stranglethorn Vale: Now that the Zandalari have joined the Horde, they could take a more active role here in helping the Horde establish a strong presence in the Eastern Kingdoms. The Darkspear were originally from Stranglethorn so it would be a bit of a 2 for 1. Meanwhile, the Alliance is trying to keep a land Trade route to Booty Bay open and is building bridges to cross the large gaps opened by the Cataclysm while trying to stay out of the Horde's way. Both factions must contend with the Gurubashi Trolls who are wary of both factions. Driven to extinction in recent years by the Alliance and the Horde, the Gurubashi have turned on Zandalar who've now allied with the Horde and must be put down.
    • Westfall: It's been several years since the Defias Brotherhood were put down a second time. Vanessa VanCleef, who revived the Brotherhood and brought Westfall to its knees accepted her defeat and left the region. The floating fortress her father built was destroyed during her fight with heroes sent to confront her. It's now been several years since then. Just as Night Elf and Gilnean refugees have begun to settle Westfall, new threats arise that must be dealt with. Things are so serious, an enemy long assumed dead returns to lend a hand.
    • Arathi Highlands: The staging ground for the Alliance's battlefront against the Horde, Stromgarde recently welcomed back its former king Thoras Trollbane. Now one of the Ebon Blade's Four Horsemen, Trollbane has returned to personally help train the new military and oversee major repairs on the Thoradin Wall to the west. Meanwhile, the Horde is secretly building an underground tunnel network that would link key Horde outposts between Hammerfall, The Sepulcher and Quel'Thalas. At the same time, the Horde is trying to deal with the dark forces that were unleashed during the Fourth War.
    • Dun Morogh: With the aid of their new Mechagnome allies, the Gnomes decide the time has come to finally take back their city! This time, Geblin Mekkatorque will personally lead his people in the battle for their city (Scripted Scenario). After Gnomergan is retaken, it will become a new Alliance capital. To the East, the Bronzebeard and Wildhammer Dwarves help their new Dark Iron allies build a town so that they will have a presence in the region.
    • Gilneas: Several years have passed since the Gilneans were driven from their homeland by the Forsaken. With the Horde having long since withdrawn, the Cenarion Circle have offered their assistance in helping Gilneans reclaim an resettle their homeland once more. King Genn Greymane is personally overseeing these efforts. Meanwhile, Lilian Voss has come to oversee the removal of the Forsaken's long abandoned Plague tanks and other equipment. That's the official reason she gave to Genn. The real reason she's there personally is to ensure the Alliance doesn't get its hands on sensitive military information.
    • Tirisfal Glades: The Horde Council has greenlit a plan to rebuild Brill and make it the new Forsaken Capital. Meanwhile, apothecaries set to work cleaning out the plague from The Undercity. To the east, the Scarlets have stirred and are on the move. A charismatic new leader has taken command of the Scarlet Onslaught and Tirisfal Glades will be their first battlefront under their command.
    • Eastern Plaguelands: Bolstered by their success in Tirisfal Glades, the Scarlet Onslaught has retaken Hearthglen and is moving to make Stratholme their new capital. Outraged by their audacity, the Argent Crusade has decided to move against them. If that isn't enough, an unexpected but welcome ally--Sally Whitemane of the Four Horsemen--joins the campaign to deal with them.
    • Hillsbrad/Alterac Region: Kul Tiras, the Dark Iron Dwarves and the Void Elves have stepped up to help the Alliance claim Southshore and secure the lost kingdom of Alerac as well. Meanwhile, the Horde is working to secure their land routes to Lordaeron to the northwest and Quel'Thalas to the northeast. With the Thoradin Wall having been repaired, the Horde has lost its overland route to Hammerfall to the east.
    • Silverpine Forest: With the Alliance having secured overland and sea routes to Gilneas to the south and southwest, the region has essentially been cut in half. The Forsaken has pulled back their forces to the north in response to this. Despite the Armistice, skirmishes are all but assured as the Gilneans reclaim their former territory and the Forsaken retreat north.

Those are my big ten in the EK. I left out Quel'Thalas and zones introduced in Cataclysm on purpose.

    • Azuremyst Isle and the Ruins of Teldrassil: With the assistance of the Gnomes, Dwarves and Kul Tiras, the Draenei have build a large harbor and a port town along the southern coast of Azuremyst Isle. This has made it easier for the Kaldorei to venture to their former home where they search for lost artifacts and remains for burial on the mainland.
    • Hyjal: With Nordrassil declared the new Night Elf capital by Tyrande Whisperwind, the Alliance has begun helping them secure the region and surrounding areas as well.
    • Ashenvale: With the Night Elves having established Hyjal as their new capital, they Horde took the hint and quickly withdrew south and east to Azshara and Northern Barrens. Splintertree Post, Hellscream's Watch and Silverwind Refuge are all abandoned en masse though the Horde holds onto their logging areas to the southeast and their port on the coast to the west The Alliance moves to secure reclaimed territory while the Horde moves secure their remaining holdings.
    • Stonetalon Mountain:The Cenarion Circle has moved into the area to help hasten the healing of the land. The Highmountain Tauren have journeyed here where they encounter the Grimtotem Tribe they'd heard about from their Mulgore cousins. At the same time, the Nightborne are interested in investigating Stonetalon Peak. Meanwhile, the Night Elves enlist the aid of Gilnean Druids and the Void Elves to help them secure their outposts.
    • Desolace: A rainforest grown and where there once was a wasteland is now a verdant region. The cause is the Botani who escaped from Alternate Draenor with the Maghar Orcs. The Cenarion Circle enlists the aid of the Alliance and the Horde in dealing with the Botani before things get out of hand. To complicate things, some Demons that lingered in the area are stirring up trouble too.
    • Northern Barrens: Some of the Botani that escaped with the Maghar Orcs have infested the region. The Horde rushes to contain the Botani before they become too powerful to handle alone.
    • Southern Barrens: The Horde built bridges to cross the chasm into the Southern Barrens to better chase after the Botani who escaped their fury in the Northern Barrens. The Alliance has rebuilt Northwatch Hold and Fort Triumph to the east. Far to the south, the Quilboar of Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Downs have banded together and are in the final stages of launching a full scale war against the Alliance and Horde forces to the north. Things are about to get interesting!
    • Feralas: Some of the Botani managed to escape from Desolace and have already taken over most of the region! THe Highmountain Tauren broker a temporary truce between the Horde and the Grimtotem so they can focus on the Botani. Meanwhile, the Void Elves and the Night Elves work to defend Dire Maul from the Blood Elves and Nightborne looking to loot the anicent city. Some of the enemies in the dungeon are different depending on your faction.
    • Tanaris: The Zandalari have come to Tanaris to explore the ruins of Zul'Farrak with the hopes of restoring it. Meanwhile, the Bloodsail Pirates have built a fortress by the coast. Silithid in the southwest are causing chaos to trade routes as well.
    • Un'Goro Crater: The Tushui and Huojin have both decided to make a "friendly" contest of taming the region for their respective faction. That's easier said than done because of the dinosaurs and Silithid who have become stronger in recent years!

Just some ideas on my part. This aside, introducing "Redux" quest chains via Phasing is another idea worth looking into.
...Ok, time to change the ol' Sig ^_^

All of the following updates to the old world zones/dungeons is based on long period of time being passed on Azeroth compared to in the Shadowlands. I think the game's story has implied (outright said?) that only months have passed. The following would be based on at least 5 years going by:

Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest, Hillsbrad Foothills, Alterac Mountains and Arathi Highlands -- Scarlet Crusade's resurgence

    LORE
The Scarlet Crusade have seen a resurgence in their numbers, and upon seeing the Ruins of Lordaeron being cleared of the blight by the Forsaken, have renewed the "righteous fire" in their hearts to retake their lands from these vile undead abominations. Having being more-or-less muscled out of the newly renewed Western & Eastern Plaguelands by orginzations like the Argent Dawn (Crusade?) and other life-promoting groups like the Cenarion Circle, the Scarlet Crusade are now marching farther through Tirisfal Glades towards humanity's oldest kingdom: Arathi Highlands, home of Stromgarde.

The Scarlet Crusade attempt to rebuild the city-state like empire of humanity's past in today's day and age.
The Scarlet Empire is on the horizon!

    IN-GAME
This would see heavy Scarlet Crusade presence throughout all 4 of these zones. The Scarlet Crusade aims to re-establish humanity's grasp on these regions just like in times past. This would direct conflict with the Horde through the Forsaken trying to fight them back and maintain their grasp on Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest, and Hillsbrad Foothills... and direct conflict with the Alliance who have (more recently) reclaimed Stromgarde and the location of Gilneas (always on the mind of Genn Greymane).
