So Capcom showcase just dropped a video while announcing the Sunbreak trailer. Some fan favourites return but of significant note is Espinas, Lucent Nargacuga and "The Tower". Content including the first Flagship of the now shut down MMORPG Monster Hunter Frontier.

This is a pretty big deal because there are nearly 80 monsters exclusive to frontier that never saw the mainline games. Only two ever did. Lavasioth and hypnocatrice on the PSP game Freedom Unite and only Lavasioth saw a reappearance. The rumour back in the day was that subscribers were not happy content they paid a sub for was appearing in a buy to play game and so the two were kept separate.

However the mmo was shut down in favour of Monster Hunter World acting as its next gen quasi live service replacement. Since 2017/18 people understandably kept asking "yo what happens to all that content?". It would be like if they made a single player Witcher style game in the warcraft setting but it couldn't use Northrend or something. But the setiment seemed to be it was all doomed to be forgotten and some of the unique variants called Zenith and Origin species were far too crazy for mainline monster.

But as many pointed out Rise is a lot closer to Frontier than any other mainline release with the old style ending with MHGU. There was rumblings Frontier content was returning to mainline but a lot of people thought it was just wishful thinking. Till tonight that is.

I can't think of another example of a developer shutting down an mmo and then half a decade later reviving its content outside some assett flip scam so hopeful this is more than just a few monsters because god knows having to rely on private servers is a damn shame for a mmo with lots of fights people loved, even the bullshit ones.
