Well, just know that it comes from a place of WANTING these guys to be awesome.
Because the CONCEPT -- essentially being a "playable, prismatic dragon" -- sounds fucking AWESOME!!!
But when they showed them off, they didn't come out looking terribly "Warcraft-y". Not that there isn't promise, as I think everyone agrees the faces and heads they showed off look perfect. The "Visage form" stuff definitely comes off looking quite strange, though. But since that all seems to be optional, I think having more races to choose from would be great (humans and blood elves will likely remain the most popular choices, but like I said, I'd personally love a Dark Iron or Nightborne).
It mostly seems odd to have what is essentially a "Dragon class", AND you're giving them an optional Visage form... to then also decide "you know what? we're going to make their dragon forms look humanoid, too. but also naked".
It's Gilgamesh.
Btw.
Why do they all look like fetish tumblr porn stuff? Give me edgy and mean customizations.

Their heads look too soft. They should look more like this
Instead of this

I hope otherwise cause dragons should be masculine. Weak bottom heavy lizards ain't no power fantasy.

Oh, sorry... only Gilgamesh I know is from the poem. I see its also an anime character.... my anime knowledge is really limited. Mostly Inuyasha and whatever stuff my son watches and tells me about.
It definitely makes me wonder who they are marketting these to. If you want men to play this race, you need to lean into the power fantasy of men. That does lead to things looking bigger, more angular, rougher. (basically the stuff most of us have been asking for)
If they are trying to market these to women..... good luck. I haven't met a single woman who wants to play anything on the Horde other than Blood Elves and OCCCASSIONALLY Trolls. They ALWAYS pick the female option, because women tend to bond with the character they are playing more than men do (who often see themselves as 'controling' the character, rather than embodying it, which is why you get alot more men playing female characters as well as male). Picking a beastial race that plays in 'draconic' form all the time is highly unlikely for most women as their power fantasy at the end of the day revolves around looking pretty and desired.
So who are these dracthyr aimed at? Those in the middle? People who don't have a masculine or feminine power fantasy in mind when playing games? I suppose there is an audience for that, but I can't imagine its very big.
I think there could be a breath of customization options to allow people to create the dragon they want and allow the strong dragon masculine form all the way to a softer humanoid feminine draconic form. It could be designed to allow a wide group of people to enjoy it.
Right now, it looks like these are designed to only be liked by a small group of people who don't fit into a classically masculine or feminine mold. I suppose you can do that, but it feels awfully strange at a time Warcraft needs to make MORE people want to play it, not less.
He's from Fate Stay series. Weeb shit basically yeah.
I wouldn't be surprised if this shit went through because of all the chaos caused by lawsuit. Maybe Blizz thought showing fetish stuff will make them look more cool in the eyes of twitterbrains. Probably nah and it's just one of art director fuck ups.
Yeah that's right. More options is always good in my book.
I mean, I still subscribe to the idea that this definitely looks INFINITELY cooler, for what appear to be fairly subtle changes overall.

That said, I'd still personally like to see them go even harder if they truly are unable to wear armor. Bigger, deeper change, really make the ridges of their scales and stuff stand out more, not just painted-on textures. Maybe even more exaggerated talons, preferably a couple styles of tail to choose from.
Because if you're sticking with a VERY humanoid appearance, then there's really no reason they couldn't still wear armor.

My biggest problem with the dracthyr is that they just came out of nowhere. And now they're not only everywhere, but apparently welcomed with open arms by both factions. Nevermind the fact that their creator alone should have made both factions go "whoa, hold up," or that their entire point of being was to create a dedicated army and pull Lady Prestor-level schemes all across the known world.
But nope, it's all "oh hey, you guys are cool, wanna join both our factions?" "Lulz, sure doodz."
Writing at its finest.
The factions literally let unliving death machines in and sent them to the front lines of the lich king who was dominating there minds a week ago and could take them over again under the right circumstances.
Before that some dragon people who haven’t had any contact with there dead dragon dad for 10 thousand years isn’t a stretch.

All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.
"Hide their operations"
Pretty sure that Varian allowed warlocks into the Alliance Military. Could've sworn we've also seen alliance Warlocks in BFA too.
At the very least they openly allowed Void Elves into The Alliance, which are arguably worse than Warlocks.
Still, the point remains, none of that compares to the uncorrupted hybrids that depending on the story, most might not know they were created by Deathwing prior to his corruption.

I do slightly hope they change their mind on the “gliding+“ thing for flying outside of the Dragon Isles.
Even if its something you have to buy like monk zen flight I’d like to have a flying version of running wild for the Dracthyr where I can be my own mount and fly at 310% like all the other mounts. Outside of the Dragon Isles obviously.
Fortunately, I feel like that's something they at least COULD address after launch. I agree though, if I'm going to be a "dragon" of some kind, sporting large wings, then I sure as hell want to be able to fly. And they should include the "Dragonriding" stuff, even if THAT aspect is exclusive to the Dragon Isles at the start.
I suspect Blizzard just wants to play it conservative with the Dragonriding stuff, in case it's not well-received or has a bunch of bugs and glitches. Once it's a proven feature, and if people are actually into it, I imagine they'll roll it out for the rest of the game, as well as extending the function to other mounts.
To address OP's point, I think that dragon culture and lore in WoW has been pretty static and boring (besides the Bronze), so adding a new subculture of faction-oriented fish-out-of-water dragon experiments is only a plus to their overall lore.
I'll stay away from these geckos that Hazzikostas chose to be the "big boom" of the new expansion. I swear to god this is the stupidest wow race there could be. I hope I don't die of laughter when I see a Dragon riding another dragon if it wants to fly. LOL
