Expanding the Development Pipeline of World of Warcraft

We know that you are hungry for new content and I’m really proud of how our development teams are working to meet or exceed those expectations – there’s more happening in WoW than ever, and this is just the beginning.

To help support our increased content needs, since May, we’ve been working with a great development partner, Proletariat. Proletariat was founded in 2012 by industry veterans from Turbine, Harmonix, Zynga and Insomniac. Their strong leadership team has a long history of working together, deep MMO experience working on Asheron’s Call, Lord of the Rings Online and D&D Online, and a strong presence in Boston, where they’re based.

Our work with the Proletariat team has been going well. Today we are excited to announce that Blizzard has closed the acquisition of Proletariat—something we’ve been working on for a while.

Together, our teams will expand our development pipeline for WoW. Our plan is to continue growing both our Irvine- and Boston-based teams, with shared creative leadership providing feedback to ensure we continue to meet or exceed players’ – and our – quality and delivery expectations. The addition of Proletariat brings 100 talented Blizzard employees to this newest Blizzard Entertainment Studio.

Proletariat’s transition to becoming part of Blizzard will take several months, and we look forward to all the ways our combined strength will help us meet our goals, help our teams, and better serve you.

Please join us in welcoming Proletariat to Blizzard! They are very much looking forward to working alongside the community to continue to build the future of World of Warcraft.

You can find the full press release on the announcement here.

Future of WoW starting to look brighter, feelsgoodman

It's actually cool. It's hard to argue about the fact that Ybarra really enjoys WoW and he is basically in control so if the guy wants his beloved game to get more development time and content - he can act upon it! Hopefully stuff change for the better! Please varied content though, raids are outdated and aren't as popular/engaged in as they used to be.

Clearly this means WoW is dead!!!1

We know out game lack content... so wait a few months for more.

Nice useless blizzpost. They could've at least say something more valuable.

Only dead thing in wow is RBG. So many Games you face either a low team you just stomp or a boosting group that stomps you. Hard to find players, especially when you wanna play in the morning/night.

I'm sure there is timeline out there where both Nintendoomed and WoW are actually true.

They did. Maybe improve your comprehension skills.

Not really. Raids are useless if you are not into CE. Way to hard and tough tuned, gearing is way easier and therefore more popular through M*. Thats the problem.
I mean, a tamed ape can clear a +15 for the vault, but most of the mythic guilds are far behind their used progress.

It looks like a positive though I want to see results from it before celebrating. Dragon flight so far seems to be the most thread bare expansion to date though it is still kinda early..

Not really tbh if they are releasing it in 2022.

I remember this one....Back in MoP. When the wow team got increased 40% (or so they kept flexing) it was followed by the longest end patch in the game history; followed by an expansion with half it's content cut and abandoned halfway; followed by a good expansion due to the resources sucked from the half cut expansion; followed by two of the worst expansions in the game history.

    Yea, what could go wrong?

Asheron’s Call, Lord of the Rings Online and D&D Online
Doesn't get more ominous than that.

Well the last time they just gobbled up another team we got WoD, with one of the officially cited reasons being that they they spend more time training the new people than actually doing stuff. That being said, I think the SL release cadence is pretty much the new norm anyway, so we probably won't even notice.

You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

Not expecting quick results, training period is expected and the statement even mentions it.

There's so much risk attached to adding two studios in short space of time.
Long term its probably good, but in the short term we could see some teething issues.
