Dragonflight Alpha - Renown Rewards
Today we're having an early look at the new Renown Rewards in Dragonflight. While this system is not yet available for testing, we do know something about how it works based on the AusGamers interview released after the expansion's announcement.

On that latter mention of alt-friendliness, there are account-wide tracking achievements for most of the faction's renown levels, indicating this is still the plan.

Looking back extends to recent history too, taking elements from an expansion like Shadowlands and reimagining them for the return to Azeroth. “You're going to be seeing an advancement to the renowned system that we used in Covenants [Shadowlands], which we think is a really cool way to set up a reputation in a way that feels fresh for World of Warcraft,” Jeremy Feasel says. “Our four main reputations each have their own different set of renowned levels and that lets us reward you often. It lets us show you what you're getting during the course of unlocking various different things, whether that's cool cosmetics associated with those reputations or getting additional quest lines associated with them or additional gameplay.”

“We wanted to go really deep with all of these different aspects,” Jeremy adds. “The new version of daily quests is going to be transferring over to a very activity-centric system that feels like you're always making progress. And unlike Covenants, you don't have to pick one of these different reputations to gain renown. You can do all of them. We’re looking at how we can incorporate alt friendliness in the same way that we did in 9.1.5 too, so it’s all a big refresh to the outdoor world.”

Note that all of this is still a work in progress, not available for testing yet and as such subject to change.

Maruuk Centaur

The various centaur clans of the Ohn'ahran plains all identify as the Maruuk Centaur.

Note: Most of the rewards for this faction seem to be not yet implemented.

They said from the start that they're using a Renown system, but that it works slightly differently - notably, you can run multiple at the same time as opposed to picking and committing to a single one, and the rewards are supposedly cosmetic/convenience only and not power.

No that's not what they said, this has been known for a while you just can do all them at the same time and don't have to pick anymore, no throughput is gained from them.

This speculation is based on this: "Increase the Iskaara Tuskarr reputation gain of characters on your account under Renown 30 by 75%." which would be a pretty cool way of farming paragon caches. just don't increase renown on that particular character and you get bonus rep.

They said it's coming in first interviews after reveal of expansion. Renown replace reputations. And aside from typical reputations rewards (catch up gear, schematics), it won't be connected to player power. Also hopefully account-wide achievs mean all rewards will be account-wide as well.

Hopefully it will lead to introducing some tokens that up any reputation to exalted after you achieved it on main. Because it new reputations are account-wide, why not old? [Or account-wide reputations, tokens would be just easiest way to implement it.]

maybe. it is definitely too early to tell, but generally if a level 31 reward applies to alts under level 30 then I think it's safe to say it's not a simple system

I mean they might time gate it. if they have learned anything from Shadowlands then we will have renown catch-up in place from week 2 of DF. it is important to note though that none of the rewards from renown give player power (unlike in Shadowlands) so does it really matter if it's timegated? minimum sub time is a month, so to hit max renown will take at least a month but do you think collectors and (most) other players will really only play for a single month? hell if they release the raid in week 3 that doesn't give a lot of time to clear it on mythic so people are going to keep playing whether it's timegated or not

I mean if it's daily quest related like everything else then it's always gonna be time gated just because of how you earn it in the 1st place. Or there may be areas where you can farm the reputation like in warlords of draenor or some of the other expansions.

Renown isn't really the type of "system" people complained about, it's not quite the same as AP and Covenants where you have a system that directly affects gameplay and basically completes your class.

Renown is a glorified reputation.

I think the thing people complained about was that renown was tied to player power in SL and it was timegated. but it's not tied to player power in DF, so it should be a fine system, even with timegating

even in MoP the rep grind was restricted to dailies I am pretty sure, only exceptions being Shaohao and Black Prince rep. Cata had tabards for dungeons but MoP definitely didn't have that

Wod was the only expan where I don’t think any of the reps had actual time gates and you could grind them all.

Practically guaranteed to be time-gated, just as reputations have... always been.

Likely this is intended as entirely optional time-sink for daily/weekly activities, giving people who are after the convenience/cosmetics something to do when they log in. Which means it makes total sense for it to be time-gated, so people don't feel like they have to grind everything instantly.
