"new talents" are just conduits and former baseline abilities.

Okay so I cannot be the first to realize this right?
there is absolutely nothing new about these talents, theyre all just conduits or abilities that use to be baseline that require talent points now.

    Not entirely.

    Are there some overlaps? Yes.

Am I completely happy with it? No.

But they have implemented a system that they can expand upon that won't be us losing power every expansion and going back to ground zero. I think they've laid a good foundation to improve on further in the future.

Mostly, yes. But what exactly did you expect them to be? A full arsenal of new stuff? It's just a re-design.

wait wait wait, are you telling me abilities that were not part of our class (borrowed powers) are now part of our character toolkit?
wow, what a novelty, that never happened before... so clever noticing it... /s

and yes, there are some new things, though i admit not many, and some new combinations that weren possible - for my frost DK i can now have icecap and obliteration, until now i could have only one of them

I think this is the most accurate answer.

I've been tired of my toons not learning / growing for nearly a decade now because of these borrowed powers (aka temporary powers). The new talent trees should provide a basis to create growth again instead of having to re-earn powers you had the last expansion.

Most people wouldn't have realised something that is objectively incorrect - so you may indeed the first to have that mistaken view.

My arcane mage can now do the followed (that couldn't happen before):
    1. Cast THREE different invisibility spells (not shared cooldown)
    2. Mass polymorph
    3. Can use Alter time and displacement
    4. Self healing from several sources
    5. Mass slow
    6. Brand new DPS spell Arcane Surge
    7. Night fae abilities which weren't available to my Kyrian mage.
    8. Ability to take the frost defensives as an arcane mage.

In addition to countless other combinations that were previously unavailable as they were on the same talent row or different covenants.

    Yes.

    That was the idea.

Put Artefact powers, Azerite Powers, Legendary Powers and Conduit powers into the talent trees so that we have one cohesive system that can last for more than one expansion.

I think there is no problem with this.
They added some skills with covenants and some of them worked out really well and fun so they kept them so people can use them after Shadowlands.
I think they added some skills after Legion too from the Artifact "talent tree".

Yes, that is exactly the idea.
A single comprehensive page to customise your character.

No more need to obtain annoying shit like conduits, legendary powers, azerite powers, soulbinds, netherlight forge stuff and whatever other bullshit i forgot to list here.

It takes away a stale, rotted and sexually abused carrot and adds a comprehensive approach to character customisation.

There are still enchantments and gems and such though, if you need your system-stacking fix.

And item set bonusses are also still/again a thing, which will likely serve as a vehicle to introduce power options that could later on be added to the talent system.

Honestly in that sense it's just a consolidation of the jumbled mess before into a single whole.

many abilities that became baseline in MoP andonwards also were talents before. Not sure, what the point of the thread is.

The new is that they won't disappear come to the next expansion, they are now part of the classes.

How are they going to handle new expansions I wonder. Are they going to add a new row or two to the trees? I'll accept anything as long as they keep the trees and don't go back to the previous thing.

  15. #15
Rather than adding I'd rather they tweak and get rid of stuff no one used. We really can't afford to have any more buttons lol

  16. #16
Yes. The new talents are just the same old things, but now you don't have to farm them or actually do anything other than leveling up to get them.

They're nice. But they're nothing really new.

This is not even remotely true.

Yes we have many returning conduits, leggos and the like. However their is actually a lot of new talents/passives.

The entire point of borrowed power was to move the 'experience' of earning talents as you leveled your character to max level, since that is where people spend 99% of their tie. Every time they've shown off borrowed power they've mentioned their goal was to recreate what people enjoyed about the old talent system.

The new talent system moves it back to the leveling experience.

Classic -> TBC -> Wrath added new rows to accommodate the extra 10 points people got.

Will be interesting to see what happens in 11.0. Is 5 points in each tree enough for new hard breakpoint limit and powerful capstones?

Pretty much yes and it is not necessary bad, but with all these requirements "you can't proceed until you invest X talents in the rows above" is just a horseshit. I have talent points and I want a system where I can invest them however I want. Otherwise I'm forced into very uninteresting choices that basically come down to selecting functionality of old-new talents, but a bit decomposed across the tree associated with these talents.

Let's just hope they will stay true to their new ideology of not having borrowed powers for at least 2 expansions.
