Longlasting system - WQHD - feedback needed

    Hello everyone,

right now I use an older system from 2012 which works quiet well for my needs actually (I7 4790k, MSI 970).

Nevertheless I feel that it's time to upgrade, since freezes and lags occure more often, even when I just play Hearthstone and surf on my secondary monitor.

The system is used mainly for gaming and browsing /watch streams simultaniously. Games are WoW but also everything what comes in my way - CoD, CIV, Spiderman ...

Resolutionwise I use a QHD main monitor and a 1080p secondary one. Right now I have to scale down everything to full HD - preferably I would like to go atleast for a 2k resoltion

I would like to use the system for the next 10 years again, with a budget around 1.500€ - 1.800€.

    Country - Germany
Preferred Stores / Sites - I don't care, I will most likely pick the cheapest one
Parts that can be reused - my Fractal Design R5 case
Do you need an OS? - no
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? - no

To achieve this needs I put toghether a build and would appreciate some feedback:

    CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core Processor (€371.90
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12A 60.09 CFM CPU Cooler (€106.04
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 GAMING X AX ATX LGA1700 Motherboard (€280.94
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory (€187.90
Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€103.99
Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS GX 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€115.00

    Total: €1165.77

As for a GPU I most likely would go for a 6700 XT or 6800 XT but will see what the blackweek offers.

    Thanks in advance!

What country are you in? Will be relevant.

    In the post:

    I wonder what country

As for the GPU, I'd say go for the 6800XT if you can afford it, it's way more future proof.

My brain is just not functional. I read the whole post like three times. Still didn't see it.

Then look into at least the 13700K, with the same transtiton you bought the top commercial CPU in 2012 but now you choose to go lower, obviously tech, and cores went up but you get what i mean, 13900K is overkill, price wise also, therefor i think 13700K is a better choice for you, not that the 13600K is bad or anything but i would go for 8 P-Cores in 2022 and forward or well, i am in a month or so.

Same time, looking at how things might be going, and since your GPU wont last 10 years, it will be safer to look into a stronger PSU from now so you wont go buying one again in 4-5 years the way they are fucking up the power draws, minimum 850W, reality, get a 1000W with long warranty

    Okay, so, some suggestions:

Z790 isn't necessary. DDR5 isn't necessary either, though i suppose it is ever so slightly more future proof.

Overclocking really isn't necessary (nor will it give you big gains over stock behaviour).

Given the prices there in Germany, its the 6800XT if you dont care about RT or DLSS, or the 3070 LHR if you do. The 6800XT will perform better (15+%) than the 3070 outsisde of RT and when not using DLSS/FSR, but the 3070 LHR is correspondingly cheaper, as well. Either will do 1440p just fine.

That being said, my suggestion would be:

Changes and why i made them:

If you're not going to overclock (and there's almost no reason to do so with the 13600K), then B660 is fine. You can still enable XMP.
The 13600K hits 5.1ghz on two cores out of the box, and 4.9 all-core (P-cores) by default. Unless you're going to go with some exotic cooling, you wouldn't get much past a 5.2ghz on that chip anyway.... so i dont see the point. A lot of effort and time for a marginal performance increase.

The Dark Rock 4 is just as good as the Noctua and significanty cheaper.

The 6800XT there is the cheapest one, but the 3070 is worth considering as it is 125 Euro cheaper. Im not sure that the 6800XT is worth an extra 125 Euro for 15% more rasterization-only performance. Up to you. If you're thinking "well, itll last longer" - you're going to need a mid-life GPU upgrade to keep this rig 1440p capable for as long as you want, so thats rather a moot point. Personally, having used DLSS and RT extensively, id take the slightly lower rasterization performance for access to DLSS and RT.

You could save some coin going with fast low latency DDR4 and a DDR4 motherboard, without it really affecting performance. Current DDR5 speeds and latencies dont really offer much, if any, performance difference.
