Midnight 12.X Patches & World Soul Saga Speculation Thread

Dragons lost powers in cataclysm. Dragons old enemies primals escaped from prison. Dragons tried to get dragon powers back with oathstones. Oathstones did nothing. Dragons sat around while player character killed two primals for the dragons. 1 primal noped out with knaifu. Other one joined dragons to become new aspect. Dragons got powers back via amirdrassil.

You forgot the part where the remaining Incarnate obtained Shadowflame powers and is invading the Dream to get the tree's power. You know, the part that's important to understand what's going on in 10.2.

Can someone explain what the story was this expansion, in relation specifically to this last raid/tier? I don't get it at all, how this Amirdrassil stuff ties everything together.

Launch -
Dracthyr, split into three groups, one joined Alliance, one Horde, the other became a faction of mercenaries trying to emulate what they thought Neltharion would have wanted. Wrathion accidentally released Razageth, one of the Primal Dragon Incarnates, an elemental foil to the Titanic Dragon Aspects.

Tier 1 -
We kill Razageth but as she dies her lighting overloads the prisons of the remaining three Primal Dragon Incarnates.
You have;
Iridikron - The Leader of the group, Earth Themed but known to have struck an unknown dark bargain in the past. He is the one who schemes.
Vyranoth - The Incarnate of Frost/Ice. The least fanatical of the group.
Fyrakk - The Incarnate of Fire. The most fanatical and the least stable of the group.

Patch between tiers -
We discover Primalist attempting to take over the Ancient Bough, with its portal to the Emerald Dream. We eliminate them. The Dracthyr mercenaries were lead on by Iridikron to discover the location of Abberus, Neltharion's secret lab. While leading them on Iridikron obtains some kind of artifact related to the Void. The artifact literally stares back at him.

Tier 2 -
Once the way was opened Fyrakk used the caverns around the labs to bath and enhance his abilities with Shadowflame Fire before retreating at the behest of the other two incarnates. We know now this was so Fyrakk could burn the world tree and most likely prevent the Titanic Aspects from regaining the powers they lost to the Cataclysm or stealing them from the titanic aspects. The Dracythr led to this location by Iridikron either died trying to emulate Neltharion, retreated to the Azure Span, or joined the Titanic Aspects.

Patch between tiers -
Iridikron bargains with the Infinites to empower himself or the artifact he previously gained in the hunt for Abberus and after winning his fight goes through a portal with a Void being taking the shape of a Night Elf. After the mess created by Iridikron is cleaned up he is missing but Fyrakk, who is becoming further unhinged, decides he is going to disobey whatever plan Iridikron had made and burn the entire planet, not just the world tree, himself. Vyranoth rightfully realizes mans gone bonkers and tells Alexstraza the enemy of my enemy is my friend blah blah blah.

Now you are caught up.

Q: With Patch 10.2 officially announced, can you tell us if there is a Patch 10.3 on the radar, or will the next major patch be the 11.0 expansion?

Augustine: I can give you an answer, but it probably won’t fully satisfy you, but it can at least give something! We aren’t talking about future plans yet. This is not the end of Dragonflight. This is an awesome turning point in the story, but there’s still lots of cool activities and stories ahead that we’re really excited about, but we’re not ready to talk about any sort of future patch plans in specific.

This could more or less just mean an 10.2.5 and/or 10.2.7, which I think most people were expecting, anyway.

Sorry, I was going to put this in but wasn't sure if a reader would just assume it. We did see some pretty important story moments in half patches this expansion.

10.1.5 was the patch that brought the Dawn of the Infinite megadungeon.

I can't see them making a full patch for just a couple cinematics and quest lines, no matter how interesting they are. It would need a a raid instance and/or zone, imo, from the pattern they've been establishing.

There is a new Retail build for 10.1.7 on the way with 2 seemingly minor changes to 2 files for "unknown mount B" (not to be confused with "unknown mount A", the one that has a non-direct relation to the Fyrn battle pet).

We don't really know much about unknown mount B (nor have I really looked), but it's interesting timing that they chose to push a patch for that mount now. Might be an indication that that mount is coming very soon (maybe even before BlizzCon?). Anything else could have been included with a 10.2 build.

I'm curious how others feel, but for me personally, I don't really have a list of "I will quit if THESE things happen" for 11.0. For example, any theme/aesthetic for 11.0 "could" excite me if done right.

Same. I made the mistake once: a much younger me said "No way, Kung Fu Panda? You're kidding!" and unsubbed. In retrospect I wish I'd played that xpac more than many of the xpacs I hung around in (all of the rest though I did unsub for half of SL). Anything Blizzard announces, I will go into with as open a mind as I can manage, with genuine desire to enjoy it.

I admit to being a bit gunshy these days because BFA got me extremely excited and a lot of it burned me bad and I even got nervously excited for SL despite everything because I was hopeful for all the systems (the Maw sounded like a neat idea, the first version of Torghast was gonna be cool, Covenants seemed like a balance nightmare but sure to be awesome thematically, etc). Nonetheless, gunshy or not, I will give a fair and honest try to whatever they announce and I will honestly probably find a lot to like even if I end up disagreeing with stuff too.
