They're definitely writing it assuming the player shares their sympathies, rather than writing the characters in a compelling way to make the player gain the sympathies.

The Thorignir are a subset of stormdragons who were loyal to Odyn and helped protect the Aegis of Aggramar. When the Legion invaded, some defected to the Legion and joined Skovald, but some stayed loyal to Odyn and fought against the Legion.

In the scenario, Vyranoth literally does nothing but yell that the Thorignir don't have to obey Odyn, (image here if wanted https://i.imgur.com/emPV7nU.jpg) and this apparently is enough to get them to fly away to abandon the Halls of Valor and fly to the Dragon Isles. This only makes sense if the Thorignir really wanted to leave but were somehow too stupid to realize they could, and could have for millennia.

It feels stupidly rushed, as if we're skipping chapters just to get to the good part. "There's a bunch of boring stuff that happens in between, so we're just going to skip ahead to where Vyranoth gives a preachy speech on her soap box and make her look cool, while making Odyn and the Halls of Valor not cool."

And I get it, Odyn (and Odin based on norse mythology) aren't supposed to be good guys, but there's a difference between being flawed vs being evil and tyrannical. The Titans are flawed, but not evil.. yet someone at Blizz took that as a sign as "No, they're all evil. they don't care, they only want to inflict Order on people."

However, as much as I loathe this direction they're going with... I'm already expecting it.

They're railroading. I love Odyn but in RPG writing, to not have even the expression of an obvious option is terrible. All the warriors were allied with Odyn during Legion. They wouldn't have done that if Odyn was completely unlikeable. The options of dialogue for your character to say to Vyranoth when she says it's time to pay Odyn a visit are:
-If you're certain...
-I see...
-You have no idea how long I have been waiting to punch Odyn in the face.
-I just want to get some loot, lady.
-I know Odyn personally... we should be careful.
-I know Odyn personally. I cannot WAIT to punch him.

Likeable or not, he's into enslavement, disfigurement, and spreading lies and slander to meet his ends.

He's an anti-villain. He's a "good guy" without ethics or morals. He just has ideas about honor and valor that he expects other people to live up to. He sees himself as free to commit whatever horror or atrocity he thinks is necessary.

The guy who couldn't 1v1 a regular orc warrior without using the elements and couldn't put down a single undead rogue has an epic fight against a massive proto-dragon whose elemental power and mastery makes Thrall look like a peon waving around a totem?

I mean for anyone who knows the lore it's easy to hate Odyn so they use him to score points for Vyranoth. Never mind that we had more questing with the storm drakes back in legion than we have had with Vyranoth and at no point did they give us any indication they were unhappy working under Odyn.

SoA is correct. First play testable zone is a thick jungle with a lot of willow trees. dwarven buildings built into chasms reminiscent of the ones in Grizzly Hills. Spawn on the shore line next to a dwarf/earthern type npc. Massive sea serpent creatures in the sea off the coast behind the spawn point. Lots of blue colorization. Very stormy/lightning filled skybox

Not saying this is real, but I could see the Maelstrom being a key theme/landmark of an elemental expansion. It's one of the few remaining set pieces Blizzard hasn't done much with yet in gameplay terms other than being the entrance to Deepholm and the focus of the Shaman class hall.

Yeah he even talks about going to check out Ulduar after.

You can't prove he wasn't just projecting an image of himself.

Except that ended when we beat up Helya in Legion. He's not been locked up for years.

All they achieved there was rescuing souls Helya were holding captive in her equivalent prison plane.

Interestingly enough you could say that if the secret Titan technology that separated these pocket dimensions, Halls of Valor, Helheim, Thros, the Elemental Planes, from the material plane were to somehow fail or break, it could destroy the planet. Or at the least return it to its factory settings...a sort of "revamping" of the planet...

So maybe the next expansion will be similarly named based on a Cataclysm zone.

Those are questions for game designers to answer, but I don't think they're impossible.



It is still showing multiple stages as well as showing a bunch of panels from BlizzCon 2019, there are a bunch of things as "Coming soon" but they match the various what's next panels and such from 2019 so it might just be confused by the date. Maybe they're in the process of updating it?

Blink store is Friday - we should see an update tomorrow or Thursday I think.
