Well, it was mostly based on Japanese culture, which China probably took a bit of an issue with since Blizzard is a western company. (Yes, they're hypocrites about it)

I think chinese fans did not appreciate their national animal (that China is very obsessed with) being shone with japanese themes. Which makes sense to me.

Last I checked, Dragonflight had 4 zones (unless you count the Dracthyr starting zone which no one had except Dracthyr until a patch… (10.0.7) not at launch).

Additionally, both the Broken Isles and Shadowlands had 4 zones (5th zone was endgame). Perhaps, the “leak” only shows the 4 leveling zones?

At the end of the day, Teriz, I love WoW. I’ll play it no matter what. Doesn’t matter to me if this is real, fake, 11.0 is underground, or even if the next expansion is 200 light years away from Azeroth. The issue at hand is the fact that I, and others, can see multiple perspectives.

Broken Isles had six; Broken Shore, Azuna, Val'Shara, Highmountain, Stormheim, and Suramar.
Shadowlands had six as well: Oribos, The Maw, Ardenweald, Revendreth, Maldraxxus, and Bastion.

All of which were announced when the expansions were announced.

Those screenshots are supposedly tied to the Storms of Avaloren "leak" that specifically mentioned 4 zones in the upcoming expansion: Jungle, Desert, Rocky peaks, snowy peaks, which match the screen shots. No "starting zone" was mentioned.

Also DF had 5 zones because the new zones are larger than previous WoW zones due to dragon riding. If Avaloren has 4 zones that look like rehashes of Dragonflight's zones, we're in a lot of trouble come 11.0.

Nope, not at all. Someone asked "do we have any leaks that line up with this?" and someone else tracked that one down and said "maybe this one?"

Paraphrasing of course but that's literally all that happened. There is nothing else tying them together, at all.

Also which one would you say is the snowy peaks? I see no snow. I see rocks with the dwarves and forest in the first screenshot. Are the dwarves the snowy peaks or the rocky peaks? Where are the snowy peaks in the first screenshot if the dwarves have the rocky peaks? And vice versa.

Broken Shore was nothing more than a scenario on launch. It didn't become a zone until Tomb of Sargeras released.

And if you count Oribos, then you have to count Dalaran, the DK class hall, the Monk class hall, the Paladin class hall, the Warrior class hall...

In other words, the RPG was actually pretty useless for establishing anything about Pandaria prior to it being added to the game. Except the beer stuff.

When the devs made Pandaren for WCIII (the game's development started in 1998, released in 2002), China was seen a lot differently in American than now. These guys apparently were fans of kung-fu movies and characters they saw growing up and thought that's how pandaren would be perceived. That's at least what Staats says. It was also not as powerful economically or militarily as it is now, so not many people felt like China was a political threat, nor was most Western media yet trying to appeal to global instead of domestic audiences.

By 2012 (Mists of Pandaria release year), every American company was chomping at the bit to pander to the Chinese audience in order to get through their censors and sell to a much richer market. At the same time, it was becoming clear that as China was rapidly getting richer, its politics weren't getting friendlier, so more people in the West started looking at the country as a threat.

All this helps explain the reception at the time.

Never forget the Scaleface images were literally right before Blizzcon. And we can't know yet if anything actually was successfully leaked until we have the hindsight going back over them all.

The old EK Quel'Thalas zone has been accessible ever since BfA launch IIRC, the phase with destroyed Undercity lacks the invisible wall so you can just fly in

Maybe Blizz secretly added the Zaralek tech to hide the transition somehow but no one noticed... I feel like that's impossible though? There is nowhere to stuff you in the airlock chamber and surely dataminers would have seen this stuff.

That's the stranges part, becauase i saw nothing holding the barrier, i just was dismounted when i passed the region, and needed to use bubble fast, i'm going to open stream now, i think i found the same location, going to try again lol

That's what i thought, maybe an oversight, i remember that on BfA they removed some of it but it returned again, now it's not there again on a single spot
