Dragonflight is mediocre, and Cataclysm being bad is subjective.

Cata - mid but the A team was moved to Overwatch and it shows
WoD - one entire tier cut short and it shows
Legion - only good after the last tier, where all the design flaws are fixed
BfA and SL - LOL
DF - same team as BfA and SL but somehow landed in the middle ground
11.0 - everything points out to be a mediocre expansion but hey, Danuser and the writing team can always sink it eve more

WoW has a Tick-Tock (Good/Bad) pattern regarding expansions, with the only exceptions being the double good BC/LK and the double bad BFA/SL:

Following this pattern 11.0 is most likely to fail, but on the bright side, 12.0 is most likely to succeed.

The previous announcement was so easy to predict.

I predicted we would become dragons using dragon powers and riding dragons in the dragon islands to fight against dragons.

This time is difficult...anyways, I predict this:

We discover a new continent or place that will reactivate Azeroth slowly. Gradually, zones of the old world will be revamped, and we will get a new set of stories and events.

So, the topic of the expansion is gradual growth. Blizzard isn't bring us many things at the start of the expansion. They want to bring more reasons to return. It will be similar to Vainilla Beta, where you re-discovered the world. In other words, we collaborate with quests in the new continent, and we "revamp" an old zone.

- New continent for the main story and for players that don't care about the old zones.
- Gradual revamp of old zones (starting with 3).
- Gradual incorporation of new specializations (maybe linked to the revamped zones).
- Gradual incorporation of new characters and enemies. Maybe we will have some clues of the status of some enemies (Denathrius, Azshara, Xal). It doesnt mean they are part of the expansion; it means Blizzard only wants to plant seeds. More character development.
- Gradual modernization of systems in the old world.
- Gradual chain of dynamic events/quests across multiple zones.
- Gradual return of old storylines (class halls?)


Blizzard will share an ambitious roadmap, and some people will criticize and call it "battlepass" wow. And maybe it is true; maybe it is another Blizzard experiment.

The goal is to make players love the whole of Azeroth again before a great event. If players are given the illusion that they contribute in-game by reviving the areas, they will be more invested in the story.

Im curious what the other hook will be to play through the revamp zones, more race/class combos would really do it.

Don't be disingenuous. You know perfectly well both MMO's are popular. Grow up. I love WoW and 14 and I think each game can learn from each other. There's lots of modernised systems I want from WoW in 14 and lots of QoL/comforts I want in 14 from WoW.

I'd love a WoW expansion where we just go chill with no god killing and a more isolated conflict. Dawntrail is that for FF14. The trip to the New World to go get involved in an inner faction conflict that has zero impact on the rest of the world.

Don't be that guy who thinks its cool to not pretend what something popular is to be different. It just comes off as ignorant. Nor is believing neither game can learn and grow from each other. WoW learnt from Everquest, FF14 attributes it's success to WoW and so on.

It tends to be best to ignore people like that, especially when they deal in absolutes like that as in all likelihood they're miserable and lashing out.

Events altering zones to a new state is also part of a revamp.

Yeah, but we already had that in Cataclysm. Now it's time for the Vanilla approach again, zones focusing on playable races' lore and events. We can have new threats replacing the old ones, but not a singular one everywhere. That's repetitive and boring.

In Vanilla, we got the Silithid uprising, the Scourge stronghold to cleanse, scattered Burning Legion demons pretty much everywhere, Trolls doing crazy sh*t, Dragons getting into politics, smaller factions threatening the playable races' homelands, Taurens fighting the GrimTotem, Orc fighting the Burning Blade, Night Elves fighting the remnants of the Legion (Demons/Satyrs), Forsaken fighting the Scarlet Crusade, Humans fighting the Defias Brotherhood, etc.

This variety made the world feel big and epic.

It all makes sense. Khaz Algar isn't a where, it's a when. The Earthen were sent to a sector in the past to investigate a time fissure, which turns out to be us arriving in the past! Then they learn about the dwarves from us and that's why they start acting like dwarves before dwarves were a thing.

I thought of that as well based on the Blizzcon decor. Like the whole idea that Avaloren or Khaz Algar just doesn't exist anymore in the present unless we went back in time...

We already messed with the timeline thanks to Chromie changing the timeline.
