If you're inventing the concept from your imagination there's no reason you can't start with a setting in mind first. Like, Dragon Soul, Fury of Hellfire, Visions of N'zoth, etc.

I think we've already had people in this thread say "Surely, the Void Invaders attacking the sunwell would have some interest in the Grave-Prison of Zakajz" aka the Forsaken starting zone.

Silithus is definitely getting updated during TWW. Maybe more. Quel'thalas is definitely joining the rest of the map, so might as well set a patch in the Plaguelands. They directly stated TLT is set in Northrend. Even by conservative estimates, at that point all they would need to do is update Hyjal & Khaz Modan regions. Then the revamp is done.

Why would Silithus get updated? We're not going there.

See I would hate that because I don't want that stuff all over my screen looking more like a game than a world. I want the world to feel like a world as much as it can. I can hide names above people's heads and make my UI as minimalist and small as possible but I wouldn't be able to hide all the randomly placed flight crap hanging in the air. It's fine during races because races are a mini game, but I wouldn't want those filling up my zones all the time.

Also I've literally never in all my time playing this expac noticed how someone else is flying. I don't care how good someone else is at flying, it has nothing to do with me. I just want to enjoy my own experience and my experience has nothing to do with hoping other people can tell I'm above average at it. I just want to fly and zoom and have fun.

And I say all that as someone who has deliberately not bought flying on alts I was leveling until literally forced to by Cataclysm zone design because I like the immersion of running on the ground on a horse or whatever when I choose to as well.

I would argue Blizzard should strive to make Dragonriding look naturally impressive, even if just to the player.
The Stormrider ability that replaces the whirling surge is a perfect example to me. With just a bit of challenge added you end up with an ability significantly more interesting than the old one.
It gives a bigger boost than Whirling Surge, and since you have to fly a tiny bit more risky it looks more impressive than just flying high up in the air where nothing can happen.

Dragon Soul made sense from the perspective of getting the thing that defined the history of the draconic races as a superweapon. Dragonblight didn't get an update just because (or at all).

Fury of Hellfire was just a natural extension of the fact that we didn't go to Tanaan and they wanted to wrap WoD up as much as possible going into Legion. Tanaan got tweaked but you could hardly call something one patch away an "update."

Visions of N'Zoth I will grant you because it is LITERALLY in-story fully formed from the mind rather than give us an actual reason to go to the actual Black Empire and it sucks.

To pose a simple hypothetical for Dragonriding. Would it be considered too much if the various abilities all had a tiny restriction like what the Stormriding ability does? If the ascent ability could only be used while close to a solid object, or if Vigor only recharged when reasonably close to the ground, but did so twice as fast?

I think we established that Lordaeron makes sense. It's also a fanservice paradise. It's probably the first place I'd update after Eversong if you put a gun to my head with how much people dickride it.

We're not talking about it, though. We're talking about the other zones listed. You know that, though. You're just obfuscating.

Maybe, but as an opt-in talent.

"Daredevil" style flying, basically. I already agreed it would be wise to just put other abilities on the barrel roll, like the Stormrider but swapped.

What?

Dragonflight is very clearly about dragons, but it's explicitly a side story and setting about dragons.

The War Within is about going underground, but it's more about the 3 expansion spanning story they're trying to sell us on more than the individual premise, because they're not doing that this time.

(It's also a double meaning like Cataclysm was anyway. The War Within is also referring to Alleria, Anduin, their natures.)

Just a funny observation; for the past few weeks I've seen some people arguing here that Blizzard would never add Avaloren to the game because it was only mentioned very briefly in the game. Now Khaz Algar is added with about the same build up and its a-okay because it's underground?

MMO champ players are mostly like this. If someone suggests something isn't in WoW (yet), they will argue that it is ridiculous and it would never happen. They would change their mind about the same thing when Blizz announced that thing, just the next day. These things include Pandaren, cross-realm dungeons, cross-faction raids, etc.

If so, that's not really a revamp in the sense Ersula is trying to push. A hypothetical second Cataclysm style revamp won't involve a Silithus zone that's 80% a giant doodad.

TBH, this is the only thing that interests me. If there's a talent for Pack Master to have all of their pets have the Ferocity, Tenacity and Cunning buffs (Max HP, Leech and Movement Speed), and be able to match all of our animal companions and dire beasts, I would definitely be going to purchase the game just for that.
