I apologize for doing this but I don't think I can search back through this thread effectively.
On the 2024 road map months ago, there was a Skull and Crossbones/Pirate Logo thing without text explanation for sometime around now or coming up. What did that turn out to be?
I took a break for a few months and haven't been paying attention.

tldr; theyre keeping it a secret, no ptr, will release in march, something experimental
About the exploring azeroth books, we also seem to get a collection containing all of the exploring azeroth books in one place:

Evil only wins when it spreads. It can cause destruction, it can cause death—but those are consequences of its nature, not its victory. Not its goal. The danger of evil, the purpose of evil, is that it causes those who would oppose it to become evil also.

Yeah tbf, it's weird the choose to go silent right before the Alpha instead of after it. No one would have minded the "secret patch" once we had a juicy first TWW build to go through, but before that? Baffling joice, especially as we will have 10.2.6, Alpha and 10.2.7 right after each other with nothing for February ...
I really hope this secret patch is good otherwise they will (once again) prove themselves out of touch with their playerbase. can't go silent for months, teasing left and right only to deliver something lame

Like I can understand that they don't want retail to overshadow stuff with Classic... but the only major thing is Season of Discovery, Hardcore isn't as interesting even if it was limited because it's just classic under a different coat of paint.
Even worse is that the Hearthstone 10th Anniversary event is happening at the tail end of February.

People's biggest complaints on hero talents, that they aren't class skins, are never going to be addressed because they clearly aren't doing class skins nor do they want to or are able to (most likely option, especially as they are doing multiple expansions at once and the art team will be stretched thin).
I get where you're coming from, but I'm of the opposite opinion. I love datamining, and as you said: you savor the new stuff for some time before release and then play it, but I feel like that has also ruined online gaming to a degree. I also feel like it has ruined the community a bit as well, because now we expect to be able to know what's coming next. Whether that's an evolution or devolution is up to debate.
For a lot of us, who browse this site and others, a good bit of what's next is often spoiled (spoiler tags or not) by these sites we love to browse and engage in. And while it is simple to just not view these sites, because of the nature of targeted advertising and suggestive topics by our devices/browsers...it's almost impossible to remain completely in the dark about something coming out that you're excited for.
For that reason, I like the idea of surprise patches and/or something completely hidden/encrypted. They're still building some hype with the mystery of "hey, here's something secretive coming up soon!", which is nice, and you know it's coming soon-ish.
My only worry, and it's possibly a worry of others as well, is the lack of PTR could create more bugs than usual making it to the live servers. That aside? I love the idea of surprise patches/hidden content. Gives me the nostalgic feeling of what WoW was like before everything was in your face and easily searched.

Something tells me you won't like it, but you will pretend you had high hopes and was dissapointed by Blizzard.
Something:
few month into DF
10.1.7
Avaloren leak
TWW reveal
10.2
I mean hate something, love something, your choice. But why so many people are so determined to make clowns out of themselves?
you're the only clown here for going through my post history to prove me wrong about something many here will probably agree with. It's not the first time the devs hype something only for it to be lame. haven't you learned anything from patch 10.2.5, 10.2, 10.1.7 (10.1.5 was good) and 10.1? they brag about their faster patch cadence but most of the "content" they release is shallow and uninspired (and buggy, but doesn't matter).
also, what you posted is no "gotcha!". I don't hide my distaste for dragonflight and the war within. the former was a wasted opportunity in so many ways and the latter has this "more of the same" feeling to it. can't talk about the story (don't expect much with people like anne stickney writing it), but the features are also lacking.
warbands? qol
hero talents? talents with a different name
earthen dwarves? who asked for them?
delves? we don't know enough about them
It's getting hard to give a shit about this game. "why don't you quit then?" i still enjoy things like pvp and m+, but even those are getting stale

I mean they already laid out TWW and how it has no new gameplay features besides delves (new talents are not a new feature). They may be hiding some AR reveals like the Nerubians (we will probably get multiple races, why else bring back ARs as a title) but otherwise, if you don't think it's enough, why bother playing? They aren't going to ADD to it and especially not now with the dual-development going on.
The good thing about being this transparent up front is that you don't have to be disappointed for longer than the reveal. Midnight should be happening a little faster than usual for a next expansion so why not check back then?
