Yes expectations like barebones Housing or shit like that are completely out of control and I agree with you there. However, Blizzard has significantly contributed to the hype up in this case and so you really cant blame players that are disappointed if months of hype up for this minor patch resulted in just another limited time event. It's also kind of a joke that they have resources for something like this but every time Ion gets asked for example about making old raids solo friendly we hear the "that takes time" excuse or it gets promised for a minor patch 2 years down the road.

ya both NA and EU forums are unanimously in an uproar right now, twitter has a few people that are positive (mostly Blizz affiliated folks) but its a lot more mixed generally on twitter, with still I'd say mostly negative lean

So what the hell did this mean? You were eating lunch 4 hours late? Why? Did you have to make a pirate logo teaser as soon as you clocked in?

I guess they're going for the full surprise effect next week (unless you are you know, not in the US....), so I'll leave it at that. I wouldn't be lying if I said I was a little disappointed in how little the developer update had (not even the name of the patch/event), but that's what they're going with. I'm not going to be the dick that leaks shit about it when they're going through so much effort not to.

they just like to bait people on twitter because they think its funny, or something.

I'm going to guess they were triple checking the build to make sure it was ready for the 19th.

Expectations are tempered by communication. Expectations have to be limited by information. Secrecy = wild speculation. This is a them problem.

They aren't going into enough effort given they are not doing a global release. It will be spoiled for half the playerbase. The idea behind a mystery event is for people to log in and be surprised by it. Which can only happen with a global release.
Not suggesting you should spoil it or anything. But let's not pretend most players will be "surprised" by the event. Heck reality is even the US players will not be since let's face it, it will probably bug out for a lot of people who will end up watching it on youtube.

Exactly. If you want to be secretive you have to be damn sure that what you got there holds up. A limited time event simply does not.

I mean heck, Im sure the entire patch will be datamined and its secrets spread to every corner of the net before maintenance even finishes, so whats the point. Like this has got to be like, some really really impressive event to warrant.....well....all of this. And even then its time limited nature makes it feel like a complete waste of dev time and funds since all the work for this event will cease to exist once its over.

Also double pointless since EU players have to wait a whole day, meaning this entire "secrecy" act was only for the NA players and the rest of the world will be spoiled by twitter anyways

At least we will probably get S4 on PTR next week so that will be interesting. I do wonder if they will do something interesting to update world content.

Or something. It probably IS very exciting for them since they have worked on it for a while. Heck a lot of things that the community saw and just went "meh" were probably very exciting to the devs who made them. At least that's my experiencing preparing something for weeks, testing it and then releasing it for use excited to see it actually doing the job I made it for and then have the end users barely notice it

Hm someone in the other thread found the location similar to Freehold, but there's differences. So it seems the shot they used is just plucked assets from BFA and placed elsewhere. Possibly Dragon Isles?

  13. #61513
the way they handled this whole thing is honestly embarassing for a big company

I'm not expecting anything great at all, I'm sure its just Nightsquall invading different DI zones, I've barely played The archives quests and events and I'm glad that isn't limited so I'm not forced into logging on and farming when they want, as apposed to when it comes naturally to me.

Nothing that is big enough to change things up will be time limited. Anything that people really like, you surely don't want to take that away. They made that mistake with mage tower.

Well the Archives story made no sense so you did not miss anything. Literally, it is completely inconsistent with the rest of the lore released during DF.

I mean, they've taken a lot of care/effort not to leak the entire thing through earlier builds (although some bits obviously leaked through, but far less than usual for upcoming features). The non-global release is a bit disappointing for the reasons you mentioned, but whatever. I hope it's going to be a fun enough event either way, hopefully cool enough to do again in the future but with different themes/variations.

  17. #61517
Maybe the event is not tied to the location? Because apparently that's a new Kul Tiran/Pirate settlement.

I don't understand why they aren't launching it at the same time in every region, defeats the purpose of this event completely.

Other than that I'm disappointed we didn't learn anything about 10.2.7 today, was hoping we'd get more info on that.

Let's remember that they stated this was available to anyone without the Dragonflight expansion, so it being on the Isles wouldn't be the case. I can't imagine them creating a new zone for a time limited event. Maybe they reskinned island expeditions?

Is there anything pointing to just HOW limited the event is? ie weeks vs "up to TWW"
