I have to admit, after being extremely critical of what we saw of The War Within during/after Blizzcon; I am now very excited for the expansion. I’m really glad to be wrong, it looks like so much fun. Admittedly I’m more excited for Midnight and The Last Titan but TWW looks very, very, very good so far. I have really high hopes.

Gotta say the Monk hero talents also nail Class fantasy. Stormbringer feels disappointing though specifically for Enhance its just kinda boring.
Maybe if your concept of Monk is an orientialist wizard, but it doesn't feel very superhuman martial-artist at all. I wish we had more monk representation that isn't "Asian druid who can't shapeshift." This is why I don't like "class identity" because they've interpreted that idea as "Class tier sets are always iterations of the same idea" Do priests need 20 cowled robes sets. Do hunters need 20 sets that are attaching dead animal parts to them? They barely even ever dip into the Ranger fantasy of Hunter.

All this is true, but WoW's writing has made stranger alliances.
- the same ethereals the void elves joined forces being the villains of the Arcane & Discipline artifact questlines
- Hatuun being mad at Velen even though he volunteered to stay behind on Argus, unprompted
- Night elves choosing humans over tauren
- Turalyon not caring that literally all of his alliance mentors left the alliance by the time he came back to Azeroth
When I say "us" I mean any outsiders, not necessarily elves. This would be a situation where special flavour text from lots of NPCs would be a must: extra hostile language toward any elves, least hostile language toward trolls, middle ground for all other races, but nothing especially happy or welcoming. Zandalari would be the best ambassadors.
But an epic retaking of Zul'Aman led by all the troll tribes would be awesome!

I also like this.
Watching some videos of alpha gameplay from this week...
It seems like the members of the Dragonscale Expedition (if they're being called that still) return in Azj'Kahet, I guess working as some sort of forward force with Faerin? I've not looked far into it, trying to avoid reading text detail, just skimming through some alpha vids. However I did see that Flynn Fairwind is back and working with the group, which is fun. The usage of them outside of the Isles could be fun depending how they're used.

Isn't that the same complaint people are making for non-undead dark rangers? Why are they tying the class' identity to a specific race? For demon hunter, that makes sense because only elves can be demon hunters, but monk is a pretty general concept. They don't make you be a member of the Kirin tor when you make a mage, etc.

Oh, did not see him there but very happy he is. The usage is going to be really interesting, especially with Delves in mind.
I kind of get the feeling the former members of the Expedition may serve some purpose as an in-world extension of the player characters, particularly as we stray further from faction heavy gameplay (not specifically faction war, but different faction campaigns, hubs, and presences in expansions).
This is now going to be the third expansion that follows a faction agnostic route, which is okay, but definitely diminishes world buidling in some way, so it would not surprise me to see these NPCs fill the roll of say Jade Forest's squads, or garrison characters. If Midnight has any flavor of garrison, I fully expect it to be manned by the former Dragonscale Expedition. Or for that matter any of the non Raid, Mythic or Renown Track PvE content.

I still wonder what this image was about
based on the lore of the zone, Xalatath doesn't really ally with the Nerubians until later on, doesn't she? So it can't really be the pre-patch event.
