Don't start acting like you have the memory of a goldfish. The Diablo 4 launch day gridlock was extremely minor compared to Blizzard's track record. Diablo 4's launch day was in every way like a WoW-patch release day, rather than a new blizzard game launch, where its typical that most people don't even get to play it.

The 3 day early access was a great idea.

Maybe they should space it out even more then, allowing the costliest edition in 5 days in advance, the middle version 2 days in advance and the rest on release day.

You are already paying for new races via expansions anyways, new races in the shop would just mean more new niche races that never would have made the cut. That said, I doubt they will do that as they will use allied races to beef out minor patches, imo, so it's just fearmongering on your part.

But they already have made game economies worst. Like, there is plenty of games where you can buy cosmetics that you can't get for free, that's not acceptable.

I wouldn't call it fearmongering to acknowledge the fact that that the suggestions people are actively making right now would change that. Yes, so far the in-game shop is tolerable, but that will only remain true so long as they stay far away from paid Battle Passes.

I hadn't really dealt with a game that revolves around Battle Passes until Diablo 4, but it completely ruined it for me. See, I liked Diablo 4's gameplay (after the latest season's fixes at least), but I couldn't motivate myself to keep going because of the Battle Pass. Selling standalone cosmetics is one thing, I can ignore that, but effectively holding the rewards you actually earn through gameplay hostage unless you pay real money for it before the end date... it makes me not want to bother at all, and as far as I can see, that is the one and only difference between Battle Passes and some of the reward systems we've already had in WoW. Like Renown (especially the Plunderstorm reward track). And there is simply no benefit to it for the players, just charging real money for the stuff you're already earning.

I'd also strongly disagree with selling races by themselves. It'd just be an extra charge for something that could be a selling point for an expansion or a patch.

i'm not sure what you are talking about, but tenders so far are pretty good. You get every month a few free cosmetics, and if you don't like anything you can safe them for later

Those items could have been items that you can get as quest rewards, we only being able to buy some of them, and for a limited time is not a reason to rejoice.

And I believe he is referecing the Oblivion horse, which is generally regarded as the first microtransaction in gaming : in 2006, Bethesda introduced a new horse armor into their game Oblivion, available by paying 2$. At the time, some people thought that it was fine and not a big deal, after all it's just a horse, and it's just 2$. Well, look where we are now...

That's why we musn't forget, and why we need to remember that any form of paying cosmetic in a game, especially a non-free game, is absolutely unacceptable.

The last bundle with tenders was added almost a year ago at this point, and there's been plenty of sets and bundles in the store since lmao. Plus, there were two bundles.

In fact, we've received more free extra Tenders than paid Tenders. (500 through the 12 Month achievement, which was hotfixed in afterwards, and 750 through Plunderstorm).

People keep saying this, but you were never meant to buy out the entire store in a month. You can either buy 1 or 2 of the really expensive items, or 5 or so of the cheap items with the 1000 possible monthly tenders. That's never changed. All that's happened is they've increased the selection over time.

Generic roleplay transmogs: 50 tenders
Weapons & Armor 100-250 tenders
Pets: 500 tenders
Recolor ground mounts & 3 piece sets: 500 tenders
Recolor flying mounts & 4 piece sets: 650 tenders
Unique ground mounts: 650 tenders
Unique Flying mounts 800 tenders
Unique back transmogs & 5+ piece sets: 500-800 tenders

These price-points haven't changed since the trading post started.

Sure but you would have been able to buy more stuff if they kept the monthly store bundles, especially as they also included future things that you didn't have to buy with tenders than.

They could probably bump the earnable tender from 500 to 1500 per month, for a total of 2k.

It's true that the individual per item cost has not changed much between TP launch and now, but the way that items are distributed in a month has changed significantly and it stretches the currency very thin.

For example, march '23 had:

-T17 Paladin Recolor
-Back piece
-Mail island transmog recolor
-old pet
-wotlk sword recolor
-new shield model
-new 2h sword model
-alt color of that 2h sword model
-pirate hate
-black cloak 1
-black cloak 2
-gnomish offhand
-new shirt
-modified T19 cloak

To get all of the new things from that month, not including the second color of the 2h sword, was 975 tender. 1025 if you include the modified cloak.

May '24 had:

-new pet
-mount recolor
-tcg mount
-legion recolor cloves
-wotlk recolor cloak
-TP recolor boots
-red shoulder cape
-black shoulder cape
-brick sarong
-black long gloves
-black tabard
-brick cloak 1
-brick cloak 2

To get all of the new things from that month you would have needed 2175 tender. 2825 if you want the new versions of the TP cloaks, shoulder capes, etc. This month just the new stuff costs 2660.

While prices in isolation haven't changed, in the first half a year of trading post it was a simple matter to buy out all of the new stuff and then have the relatively painless and interesting choice of "do I want all the new stuff, or some new stuff and some recolors of old gear I might like". In the first half of this year, it's largely become "GG, you can't afford even half of the new things". If you're like me, most months 400-500 tender is just immediately lost on the typical monthly new additions to the two cloak sets/shoulder capes to allow for expanded transmog options across characters. So already even buying a single additional mount, or transmog set is out the window. Comparing the "you can't afford everything" of the old trading post and the "you can't afford everything" of the last few trading posts is highly disenegous.

"Here's a new mount, a new transmog set, and a new back transmog item, pick one thing, btw you won't have enough tender left over to even pick up a fraction of the misc recolors or single items" is not a good amount of friction. Buying it next time it shows up, or the freeze capability don't offer any real relief, because those things are still gonna be 800 tender then, and completely block you from purchasing (very literally) 90%+ of whatever that month's stuff is.
