Or they just re-used most of the already fine login screen and just added some flat 2d artwork in order to appeal to the weirdos who seemingly don't connect via the bnet launcher? I'm glad they didn't waste 100% of some poor devs time.

Because it's a waste of dev ressources?

Okay? I couldn’t care less about what the login screen is. But whether it’s deemed a waste of dev resources or not doesn’t mean those that aren’t a fan of it should be met with vitriolic, toxic comments. There’s no defending that. You shouldn’t be defending that.

    What vitriolic comments, exactly?

The worst there is a "Who cares?"

Literally two pages back as well as a few posts above this one.

Yeah, it's BaumanKing projecting... again. Nobody has been acting like "manbabies" or being "toxic" about the log in screen. Some people voiced their disdain for it, others offered no opinion but discussed alternatives. BaumanKing projects their insecurities in everything they post.

Instead of like looking for themselves, other posters see BaumanKing's post and just assume other posters have been acting this way.

    It's fucking weak.

It's completely fair and within reason for people to voice disdain over the log in screen, especially when you compare previous iterations of it

*queue the people claiming that no, they do in fact always spent 3 hours a day looking at the log-in screen and their experience is now ruined forever!*
Well, if this were WotLK or SL...

New login screen is obviously a panic mock-up due to the overwhelming amounts of negative feedback.
In any case: It's still way better than what it would have been. Hopefully they've learned their lesson and maybe they will change the rest of the screen overtime.
I will not reply to posts that are non-constructive or contain flaming and/or trolling.

And it's completely fair and within reason to think that arguing 2-3 pages over a login screen that realistically, you will never ever look at is ridiculous, especially when there are actual design decision that get buried by pointless squabbling. (I would just like to point out that this is not directed entirely and solely at this thread but the general WoW community).

I agree that we only really look at the login screen for a few seconds but that doesn't mean they should be cheapening out on it. We are paying money for this game and as such are entitled to voice opinions about it, be it positive or negative.
The current login screen looks boring and you can tell they didn't want to spend time on it.

Can people make an argument without insulting others on this fucking site?

    Fixed that for you.

I wouldn't say Blizzard necessarily went the cheap route on it.

Historically, 10 times out of 10, WoW players as a whole complain about literally everything. Blizzard should have anticipated a large percentage of backlash from the log-in screen.

Hell... maybe they did and this new one was always in the works.

I'm willing to believe they created two and tested the reaction of people with the first one tbh lol

I’ve spotted at least three on that particular page as well as your comment a page later (and another one on that page with resorting to insults) which was either misinformed or over exaggerating the alleged issue. I wonder how far we can move those goalposts.

Evidently not. Might be time to block that particular poster. More often than not it’s just them either outright insulting someone or exhibiting toxic/elitist behaviour about the game. Can’t believe they’ve yet to be banned.

Idm the login screen that much. But I understand people that might not like it. Calling them weird or manchildren says more about the people insulting them than the people complaining.

  15. #74255
Yeah, perhaps you don't see the login screen for more than a few seconds, but I believe it still matters. It is essentially a book cover for the expansion. You rarely look at the cover for more a few seconds, and when you do, it's usually right before you start reading. Even if you have a book on your shelf will usually only see its spine. Does that mean that the book covers do not matter? Ask anyone who loves their books and they will tell you that they definitely do! They are part of the experience, they set the mood, they are the FACE of the book.

It's the same for WoW expansions. Box art used to play this role to a degree, but it was never on the same level as the login screen. Besides, since they no longer sell physical copies of the game, "box art" for new expansions is not really a thing anymore.

Maybe you do not see the login screen for more than a second every time you launch the game, but you do see it EVERY time you launch a game. And it will still be used as a "book cover" in every video, and every article that talks about different expansions. Do you ever listen to login music from the expansions past for nostalgia sake? If you do that on youtube, it's the login screen that you will see in the background.

Is a "low effort" login screen the end of the world? No. The book cover does not change how good the book is. But it can still change the experience of reading it, for better or worse.

There is indeed quite a few who do this. Ad hominem constantly. This is their natural reaction when they are proven wrong
    Just don't quote/reply to them.

I have been brought out of a deep lurky slumber to agree with this wholeheartedly.

Login screen & music are what you see when you return to the screen after 40 mins afk in the real world. It's the background noise / visuals as you put your headset back on in the mid raid break.

It's the games biggest hype man.

No, the character select screen is what you see.
