As an aside to the speculation on the Direct's announcement;

I really enjoy the Secrets of Azeroth style questing. I think this is a huge opportunity to reapproach quests in a way that feels tangential to what Classic leveling felt like. I really apprecaite putting in the time to think about what I'm doing and being rewarded with currency for great transmog sets. I hope that this extends past a holiday event and becomes the standard for story questing. If they can reframe it past being a detective, I think this could be an incredible way to do some non combat story telling.

As big an announcement generally a console port is, it does nothing for a vast majority of existing players. So for most. It's cool but not exiting.

Ive been expecting them to really shake the foundation of wow up after this saga, excited to see if this announcement may be the start of that.

The fact that they distinguished it from what's coming next for Modern and Classic makes me think that it'll be another new game mode separate from both. Like Plunderstorm or Remix, though hopefully more permanent and less gimmicky.

As long as it isn't tied to your subscription status like FFXIV I would be really down for that. It would be another means of getting collectibles and being able to show them off (plus it has been a pretty popular idea for years). I actually think housing would fit the idea of a big announcement. Even better if they set up some achievements that let you earn portals for your home, with the first and easiest one being to your faction's capital city (and maybe flight vendors can take a fee to teleport you to your house?) that way it doesn't completely kill the social aspect of the game like garrisons did.

I don't think anyone hates this, but based on what FFXIV devs have said, the majority of players won't participate and they'll be burdened with adding more house decorations every expansion.

That goes both ways for literally everything they could possibly add, to be honest. There's plenty of people that would love it, plenty that wouldn't care for it in the slightest and surely some that would complain about it taking up resources with some of those groups being more vocal than others. That's just how these things are. Claiming there's more people on any side is always going to be useless guesswork unless Blizzard says otherwise. It is a useless discussion to have.

And based on what devs from other mmorpgs have said and develloped, the majority of players would participate. It depends on how it's implemented. If it's made even decently, it would at worst be as popular as tmog (since it scratches the same itch).

Just want to add that XIV housing is a nightmare and that's probably why most people don't' care.
