11.2 has to be really hype and has to have a lot of meat to it in terms of story. It should also clearly set up Midnight, because the subsequent .5 and .7 patches will release after Midnight would have already been revealed.
11.1 was Undermine, 11.1.5 had no story, and 11.1.7 looks to be completely unrelated to the whole void/ethereal plot.
Unless 11.2 is something crazy like visiting the Arathi Empire as a continuation from 11.1.7 or something, then I have no idea what 11.2 actually is. 11.1.7 being Arathi Highlands kind of puts a big question mark on where it's going.
But whatever it is, it has to be a banger patch with a hype cinematic to get people hooked and hyped for Midnight.
I am still wondering whether we will get an "expansion reveal" like what we would expect at Blizzcon. The usual timing for it in Autumn makes sense if we assume the Alpha will begin immediately afterwards. But I do wonder whether we will get something several months before the expansion begins official testing.
The world revamp dream will never die!

I think 11.2 in k'aresh showing us th dangers of allowing our infighting to give the void a foot hold could easily draw the themes of the Arathi 11.1.7 and short story together with 11.2 and 12.0
Serving as a rebuke of faction tensions (thank God) and encouraging the thalassian's to stand in solidarity together while also helping integrate the etherals more the Ren'dorei to help tie them into azeorth more closely

Is there anything in 11.1.7 that even references the void or ethereals? Otherwise it would feel like a pretty sudden shift if 11.2 is Karesh

Yes, those are the only things that were teased in 11.1.7 (well, unless you expect the Red Dawn to be followed up on immediately, but that'd be the biggest sudden change imaginable, and definitely seemed more like a very early setup). And the K'aresh stuff was especially blatant.
The Ethereals and Xal'atath both got Lorewalking questlines (and given that one about the Blood/Void Elf divide was datamined to be next, it's clear that most of these are meant to recap soon-to-be relevant stuff), and unlike the Arthas one, both included new lore. The Xal'atath story showed her conflict with the Old Gods and her getting sealed in the knife, while the Ethereal one revealed that the Brokers were also from K'aresh. It was also the only one to end with a present-day scene, showing the start of a team-up between Locus Walker and Ven'ari. As of right now, that scene is the thing we have that comes across as a 11.2 plot hook.
They just posted the ptr notes for this week. 2 days earlier than the usual. Is anything happening on thursday?

Arthas is also connected heavily to quel'thalas, so we're at 2 seemingly connected to void Etherals and two connected to quel'thalas/elves
Especially considering that the blood elf might be the heritage scenario where you go into the sunwell with kaelthas, it depends on knowledge of Arthas sacking silvermoon

For better or for worse, outside of the stuff in the Shadowlands, Sylvanas is tied to the Forsaken. If she returns to something set in the northern portion of Eastern Kingdoms, I would bet money she has at least some interaction with them. She would be returning home, both as an elf and an undead. Its where she was raised, both in the literal sense and as an undead.
I think honestly blizzcon will be when they announce WoW 2, I dont think we will get anyhting more than an announcement but given that this trilogy is implied to be the ending of wow 1's long saga, while I dont doubt more expansions will come for retail, its a good time to hype people for wow 2 and use it to attract gen Z Gen Alpha who might have heard of wow but dont wanna play retail/classic.
We wont get a gameplay trailer for wow 2, more of a logo with a brief cinematic at most of a teaser for 2030 or something.
As for the other things for blizzcon, im expecting:
- Heroes of the Storm reborn, they bring back HoTS its been forever and with Diablo 4, Overwatch 2 and retails latest content they have good champion options for a revival.
- Starcraft 3, probably.
- Wow 2.
- Some kind of ark/conan/builder gatherer survival game themed in warcrafts universe possibly serving as a transition between wow 1 and 2.
Also im expecting a netflix series or amazon series around warcraft, since hints have been given.
