Given how schizophrenic Blizzard have been about deciding on a backstory for her I'd be tempted to say it's because she was sent to the world to eat its soul and so has dibs on it before the Old Gods betrayed her, but as they backed out both on her being a fifth Old God and on her being a Silver Surfer-esque survivor it's a bit vague. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Reusing the copout of Khadgar surviving in the Heart to explain Xal's survival and return was a decent choice.

Xal'atath is a first one. Alleria gets dominated by her next expansion thus proving N'Zoth's vision correct and mirroring her sister's story with the Jailer. Somewhere in here Outland gets blasted. Im sure of it.
