the letter's writing is really too "modern" . I'm glad we have Turalyon, but I can feel in my bones that the developers want to denigrate him.

They're remaking him, turning him into a crazy clown. Although I remember how in the book he literally calmed Alleria down, saying that revenge wasn't the answer.

I enjoy being with the characters from my childhood. But every line sometimes (often) makes me roll my eyes.

I think you're misunderstanding my point. As I said, is not that different stories can't be told based of similar archetype, my point is that having the same archetypes in the narrative concurrently is an issue about the overall narrative "real state." Anduin, Faerin and Arator, narratively, can be used to fill a similar role the plot requires. Again, is not about the personal arcs of a character and their exploration, but about setting up characters for when the plot needs something to happen.

It *is* weird to have another young light based main character, because WoW really does not have the space to juggle many characters front and center, so my question is why they are doing this. And I don't think it is because they just wanted to explore Arator as a character. There *is* a set up here, but I don't know for what yet.

well, we don't know where the authors want the story to head towards too. For example, if we have in the very near future a very strong focus on the light, they would need to bring a few different light types of characters up to speed to show different things. Like, in Midnight we see the lights blinding effects and could see a focus on these characters in that expansion. So, there is not a lot of time, and several different people need to be build up quite close to each other.

I could see easily a light based patch in which a new generation of paladins step up to fill the void that the old original five left. Faerin, Anduin, Arator are a start, but there should at least be two more. I could see Liadrin and Dezco step in as a more senior figure to round out the young ones. But this is of course speculation. But i wouldn't be surprisedd.

The importance of revealed preference has changed so much of product design to be data driven that quality is foremost judged as an objective, measured variable. Blizzard cares about which parts of the product the community engages with and which engagement leads to purchases, preferably for the least investment, not about an ephemeral quality of product that one would argue for based on aesthetics.

I can't help thinking how badly they're fumbling it. Instead of ruining Turalyon, they should have used Arator to explore the idea that Light can corrupt, especially given his light/void dynamic. It should have been Arator who is the younger, inexperienced, brash, hotheaded, even overly zealous guy in the face of existential threats unfamiliar to him. A desire to 'prove' himself in front of his veteran parents, with his father being the voice of reason and restraint. Instead, Arator is the naive, emotional guy who feels bad every time a troll which tried to kill him dies, while his father is the made the zealot. So instead of getting 1 thing right, they get 2 wrongs

Yeah, that actually would have been decently clever. You could tie it into a commentary on right wing extremism in young males and everything. Young paladins who get drawn into violence and a failure to see what caused Paladins to be needed to begin with.

i can't say i follow your argument. Alonsus Faol is one of the few person in Azeroth that should a thorough grasp on how the light works. And his examples of elune be used as a focus for the light is more than just figurative or metaphorical talk, but a explanation, even if he might not know all the details.

He's a priest, not a physicist. He gives people guidance; he does not study the cosmology. So when he says focus the light he's talking emotionally, not talking about laser eye surgery.

The only thing interesting about WoW lore these days is Iridikron and that’s just because he’s got cool guy aura. WoW’s story has never been good. All of the best parts of Warcraft 3 were bastardized to make raid content in Vanilla-Wrath. If you’re arguing that we should return to that kind of writing then I think you’re just as delusional as people praising the current story. WoW is all about gameplay now, get with the program.

Disagree. This is some of the best stuff in years. Hope they never go back to the DF style of boring 1 dimensional characters where every hero is an alliance elf or human whose right about everything and horde at best is their therapist and more commonly is just always bad and wrong. Also no culture friction at all like in good worldbuilding.

This is realms beyond the trash of the last couple expansions and a welcome return to Warcraft. Very excited.

My cope is that playing Legion Remix is eye opening for the devs.

I thunk the problem is the devs are from a lame generation story wise, while the cooler heavy metal generation created and got the wow vibe much better, even if most they ended up being terrible people.

You can notice a similar difference with the last Dragon Age compared to the first one. It smells of tumblr and coomer/furry fantasy twitter echo chambers

I was going to it's too late for the story to be rewritten. But I guess it's mostly just the Arator quest, as well as the Arcantina stuff. Would be nice if it isn't too late for the Arator stuff to be given a better spin that doesn't require Turalyon to be moscharacterized for it to work, and for Arator to not be treated like a completely different character from what we know.

it is both one and the same. Don't forget that Alonsus is one of the higher ups of the priest order halls, dealing directly with a naaru over the course of legion. His guidance is founded in actual knowledge about the light, not just primitive believe in a unknowable higher being.

All of the cool characters were ruined by WoW. Kael’thas? Now a villain and viciously stupid. Same goes for Illidan and Vashj. Arthas was a cartoon villain in wrath. Malfurion has been forced to take L after L ever since WoW came out. I was laughing at “I am my scars” back in 2018 because of how truly awful it was. Everything I loved about Warcraft was ruined with WoW but the game and general setting has been enough to keep me playing year after year. There are no cool times or moments to return to. Especially if you’re someone who has been playing since Warcraft 3, it’s pretty obvious that team died with WoW.
