crazy idea, they could make an RTS telling a "canon" story of world of warcraft but from different perspectives.

Example: some missions during wrath could tell the story from the forsaken pov then humans for cataclysm and orcs for pandaria and so on. You wouldn't get a race based campaign but more races throughout a signgle campaign. Then you get all the races in online mode or skirmish or whatever

In 2021 Microsoft studio release Age of Empires 4. I don't think they would be against Blizzard RTS sequel. Isometric cRPGs were supposed to be a dying bread, and then came BG3 (and many others before). And SC and WC brands are still huge.

Or literally anything that doesn't work well as an MMO.

Hell it would even be interesting to go through all the expansion stories with actual lore characters doing the stuff players did. Same way Varian did the Onyxia's Lair attunement quest.
So then PAST stories that didn't see light in wow.

Though at the end of the day MoP was good because it had exceptional gameplay (most specs played great in MoP) and very solid content (many options for advancement outside raids plus fairly decent raids especially with ToT and SoO)
You may have liked it, but the expansion only lost net subs over its entire course.

A lot of publishers asked the same thing about a single player RPG with no battle pass or any of that crap. But BG3 is a blast. There is no reason to assume an RTS can't work.

Pretty much, yes. Altough I'm not sure why you need to write in all caps as if this is some huge gotcha moment.

I think a lot of people left at the beginning of the expansion because they didn't like the idea of a Pandaren expansion. For those who stayed and played it, it seems to be generally regarded as one of the best expansions for WoW.

Yeah a lot of people only learned how good we had it in MoP in hindsight.

Speaking of which. Isn't it time for a different kint of Diablo game?

StarCraft is an RTS with an unfinished shooter spinoff

WarCraft began as an RTS, had an unfinished adventure game, has an MMO for nearly 20 years now, a card game spinoff, and whatever Rumble counts as.

Meanwhile the Diablo franchise only has isometic action rpg games.
D4 was supposed to be a Dark Souls kind of game. Which honestly, would have been a thousand times better. Shame that they do not do single player games anymore. ARPG's need to evolve IMO. Just getting better gear is getting old. I do still hope that they would make a Diablo Souls like game.

Starcraft is perfect for a cool FPS, and they can literally do anything with Warcraft.

I hope that we start to see more non-mobile games.

    How??

Wow takes place in the world... Any parallel tory that happens in warcraft 4 would be happening in wow.
Pretty easy IMO. We have been off Kalimdor and The Eastern Kingdoms forever. Just develop some stories there in Warcraft IV that justifies and fleshes out the world revamp that we know that is coming. They can also make a campaign about Yrel's Holy Crusade and stop right before she is coming to Azeroth, then the tell the rest of the story in WoW. Same with the remnants of the Legion.

Possibilities are endless for a Warcraft IV IMO.

I'm okay with the main series staying the same. But the only spinoff Diablo got was another isometric PRG for mobile.
You know what I want? A more traditional RPG set in Xiansai that is more about intrigue and getting a non-standard game over due to bad dialogue choices and not hacking up demons.

    It was an emphasis.

Past stories, from like novels or comics makes sense.

But having a story take place in, say outland, at the same time as wow is stupid.

Cuz why not make that story for wow instead? Why make an entire game to tell stories that can be told in wow with a quest chain.

Maybe because it can't be told? I mean largscale warfare isn't really fit for a game where you control one character and maybe a pet. Case in point, the Battle of Lordaeron was about Blanduin Leeroy Jenkinsing into trap after trap and some kind of deus ex machina backup team jumping out of a plot hole every time to advance the siege.
Now imagine that as an actual battle with siege units, airial units, controlable heroes, cavalry charges and everything.
Like seriously, BfA would make a very good RTS campaign. Especially since the Battle of Teldrassil isn't even in the game anymore.

i know that we're probably entering the phase of "my sources say" and there will be much more of it, but putting that aside that i don't see them changin name of WoW to just warcraft.

    not necessarily, at all.

It can cover side story about Anduin for example, or the two years gap adventures of some big name during the SL => DF time skip, etc....
We have books between expansions, WAR IV could span a whole book of content introducing new vilain and stuff coming way later in the Wow cycle.

I can see them. I mean it made sense when WoW was the spinoff of the RTS series. But we had five rts games over nine years and 10 wow games over 19. It is no longer the spinoff. It IS the main series. It IS WarCraft.

Well then it has to be implemented better, narratively and mechanically.

The WoD Intro was a full scale battle, so was the Legion intro, and both were done pretty well.

Make every large scale battle like that and an RTS is pointless just for the sake of showing large scale battles.

Yeah, I mentioned that past stories could work.

Issue is that it wouldn't really be warcraft 4 if it's taking place in the past. Soooooooo

I dunno, still can't see it.

I could be proven wrong tho, there's always a chance that microsoft might want to just label everything "warcraft something" or for 20th anniversary they will go for a reboot, the keyword here is a "reboot".

With the name change that usually mean reboots in other series, i think the next expansion should place on the mainlands of EK and Kalimdor or something.

Imagine a 'A Warcraft Tale' kinda spin off game in the vein of what LoL did with their recent spin offs.

A AAA or AA rpg based in warcraft telling stories we havent experienced but dont want to be confined to rts/topdown gameplay. Gives them room to try out new things in terms of development.
