Thank you. So not to completely do an 180 o the subject, which lose ends do you want to see in 11.0?
As mentioned, the Drust are very cool villains. Iridikron and Xal will surely make an appearance. So will the Decay storyline.

Decay probs will due to the Galakrond essence, but I'd almost prefer it for the revamp assuming that isn't 11.0. The Decatriarch's escape screams future gnoll warband (mongrel horde when??) and she's our only other main decay force at the moment.

I just hope that they do something interesting with decay, at minimum have the major players uncoupled from the major cosmic forces. Let them just want to rot stuff like Wratheye.

Its only me , or the best questilines from DF comes from side quest

Blue DF , baine , human/orc/undead hereditage , time rifts , tyr (if you dont count human you need to not count undead too since its the same type of quest)

I mean , all of this quest is better than the 10.1 main questline

Tends to be the case overall in WoW. The closer the story gets to the main storyline, the worse the writing gets. I assume because it is increasingly written by commitee, and has to take into account both old lore, and the lore it will itself set up.

I have no doubt the writers for WoW are talented. And so the side quests are likely where they get to really show off their skills.

He's not right. Because I've sat through enough threads to know that the majority of proposed lore changes that come out of the playerbase are abject trash. Notable mentions include every video ever made by Pyromancer, Teriz arguing that Tinkers are a good fit for Shadowlands because ghostbuster anti-spirit technology should spearhead the fight, and Vorodoc insisting that the entire game's storyline should be about his elf obsession's mastery of the void.

I only started in Wrath and I still always think of the original zones automatically. Within the last year I tried to go outside of Orgrimmar to catch a zep to Eastern Kingdoms, and I don't play Classic so it's not from being used to that...

People fail to understand that what we see is already done like 4~6 years before we see it.
So if Afrasiabi left in 2020, he surely worked on all the narrative of BFA and probably the draft of SL.
So by the time Danuser pick up the reins, he was fucked up, with BFA complete and SL already on-rails. So he barely had room to maneuver.
That's why they probably closed the story at the end of SL and made a time-skip to start "fresh" with DF.
And we won't probably see too much of Metzen narrative influence until the end of the next expansion at the earliest.

As I said earlier, if you tie up every lose end in every expansion, you'll burn through stories without any build up. You also get the Marvel disease, burning faster through threats then you create.
What if the faction conflict ended in Vanilla?
The Legion finished in TBC?
The Scourge ended in Wrath?

The issue is all the side stuff. Having the mainline open-ended or having a lead in, is perfectly fine.
Imagine if Yoggsaron didnt get resolved until Legion and there was also a 3 expansion spanning side story about Kvaldir. That's the shit I mean.

We've had too many of these recently. The most notable one is the one with the Night Elf tree. Should have been concluded late BFA so the subsequent expansions could more focus on their own main plot. 3 expansions is too long and too much shit gets changed around which makes for incoherent writing and an unsatisfying conclusion.

They massively restrict themselves with a storyline like this. That's because it must make sense with stuff that was conceived YEARS ago and at the same time must conform to the newest expansion and its theme. Thats just asking for bad writing.

I don't see this specific example going to get a satisfying conclusion in the next few patches.

Minus the tree, I think DF did an OK job. Have Iridikron be a lead up to a next expansion and then solve all the side stuff within the expansion.

Except Danuser didn't become Narrative Designer until 2020. At which point 9.0 definitely was already written.

Correction He was a Senior Narrative Designer from May 2015.
On May 2019 he became Lead Narrative Designer

And Narrative Director a little over a year ago.

Not that I want to spend much time on N'zoth lest it encourage the resident void fetishist, but.

One of said lines was also specifically making the point he looked into our past and was like hmm interesting. The implication being that he was dead until we engaged in time travel shenanigans and made the granddaddy of all butterfly effects. A cunning critter like that could figure out how to fake his death so as not to create a paradox that would prevent his saviours from teaching him how to avoid death, too. Presumably the dagger because Blizz very conveniently wrote squidman to set it on its otherwise nonsensical journey to Sylv > Azshara > Wrathion, which otherwise makes zero sense that he's set up his own stabbing.

I wouldn't call that a masterstroke of narrative writing, but I would call them absolute morons if they don't follow up on it because several BFA story beats make actually zero sense without it.

The likely option is that he figured a way to escape into the empty dagger inhabited by Xal'atath. Though presumably with more leeway into his actions in that form.
The part where he very pointedly demands the knife be left behind after Xal'atath escapes the knife has still yet to be paid off in any way, because right after the knife just ends up in Sylvanas' hands, where it does nothing but seemingly be a detriment to N'zoth.

Here is the ingame/inuniverse theory for his return. Seeing us from the future come back, he was able to know which of the many futures he could see would happen and prepare for it (prepare as fake his death when we come to kill him), so instead trying to stop us from killing him in Nyalotha and changing time, he could've played around it and shaped it to his liking while it happens in the same way and leads us going back there with Chromie.
I wouldnt be surprised to see more of him soon (especially if there are more old gods or similar on the other side)

There's still the question of why he didn't just take the dagger off Azshara. That seems like such a weird oversight given how important it is to his defeat.

Discussing old content can definitely make sense where relevant, such as if you suggest that we may see N'zoth again and want to build some foundation for why, but let's stop the tangents about Danuser/Metzen and unfinished old story lines and what have you.

I can kind of empathize with him if that's the case.

When someone comes to me all excited about an idea that I can tell isn't going to work, I just kind of go along with it. To me, that's preferable to ruining their day/week/month by shitting on something they're obviously passionate about.

And then the poor intern sees the idea they were passionate about being ripped apart on the forums. Maybe he should have worked with them to make their ideas better. If he knows how to do that.

There's still the question of why he didn't just take the dagger off Azshara. That seems like such a weird oversight given how important it is to his defeat.

The dagger ending up with Azshara seemed very deliberate - if you recall, he left it for us to hand to Sylvanas, who then went to give it to Az, who he then captured and left alive until we saved her. That particular side story really only makes sense if he actively maneuvered the dagger to eventually stab him, presumably to gain some mobility. From a copium perspective, it would also combat some of the otherwise tragic writing as to why he was such a pushover and tried the 'brute force approach' despite being the smart one.

Anyway, to maintain relevance - I actually do hope we hear from him again in 11.0 if Xal is indeed doing void things. I want them to screw with each others' schemes.

To be fair we only know these things in hindsight. I remember the true BfA leak was just a random throwaway list of 4 or 5 lines that was half buried by other posts.
I think we had the real one but it spent most of the time off the radar. Like Origins or one of the others that don't have SoA for an acronym.
