Class for sure. Druid is rarest exception, because it made sense to separate talent trees according to DPS/TANK shapes.
Other classes dont warrant the same attention.
Exceptions would surely be couple hybrids classes: Paladin (Holy Range DPS Spec) and Shaman (Tank Spec), but thats it.

Risks are not always rewarded with quality.
BfA was a risk in trying a lot of new stuff, and it failed. Legion took risks and succeeded.

11.0 should definitely take more chances than DF did, but it not to the point where it can potentially kill the enjoyment of the expansion of it fails.

well beta for azeroth didn't come from outer space

while the mop was lorewise-friendly and was properly made before shipping,

The problem is that it takes too long for Blizzard to get to the next stage in the story. If there would actually be an active story getting Gilneas back or finding a new home for the night elves, people wouldn't be so anti these changes. But players know that if something happens to "their" race, it will take a really long time to get a continuation of that story - if they will get one at all.

This can't be stressed enough, especially in the light of talking about how Blizzard needs to set up hooks and teases for future stories. Let something sit on the grapevine too long, and it starts to wither. This whole Amirdrassil thing has been dragged out for so long that there's little excitement over it. They need to start telling and finishing stories in a timely manner. Right now, it just feels like a repeat of BfA where they're trying to set up the next expansion so fast that they're forgetting to make the current story compelling and fleshed out, and we all saw how well that played out in SL.

Consider this: would the blue dragonflight questline, one of the most praised parts of the DF story, be nearly as well received if it was split up and slowly doled out across 4 patches?

This is the problem I used to have with 4th specs over new classes. New classes don't actually affect existing players unless they *want* to switch to it, whereas in this case, some playerbases get a new toy and others don't, probably for a while. It might still be a bit of an issue, but I expect them to *try* it once. They're very "what do the players want right now?" and 4th spec people are LOUD.

problem with Tinker/Artificer is that Engineering has all the bombs, trinkets, etc. How do you not cannibalize the profession with the class (just thinking out loud)?

And that animation is just a callback to the fact that she died and was brought back and is likely to die again (return to the Shadowlands) after 10.2.

Yes wod was 10th, but it was the 5th exp, nothing special about that.

11.0 is the 10th exp, on the 20th wow anni, with the 30th anni for the franchise.

On top of that it's the first blizz con since COVID after a lot of controversy t blizz with Chris Metzen returning.

This exp has to be big.

I would clamp down on those expectations a bit. You're blowing this up bigger than what it is. Again, 11.0 is going to be an expansion in line with previous expansions. They're likely not going to pack more stuff into it just because it's falling on an event.

I don't understand the people expecting a new class; we literally just got one in DF, and it wasn't even finished on release..

4th (support) spec for a few classes makes the most sense to me. The development required for this vs a new class is not even comparable. All base abilities are already baked into the classes, so all you really need to do is design new spec trees. Whereas a new class would require new movement abilities, defensive and offensive cooldowns, new starting zone, a dozen new animations to fill up anything from filler abilities to class defining ones etc.

You know that the most likely next support class or spec (Bard) would require a ton of spell effects and animations, right? There are a few musical animations already but most of them are very static.

Operating under the assumption that all classes will get and need four total specs is a bad idea. Many don't need another spec. The ones they have need to be refined. Also this could easily lead to homogeneity.
