Personally I prefer the broader perspective; having what are virtually gods be purely benevolent feels lazy and unrealistic to me. There's no way deities would operate on the same moral framework as mortals, that's massively idealised.
Early WoW portrayed them very benevolently because in canon we basically only had the Dwarves as a source of information, and they revere the Titans so of course they seem super.
We're now in much closer proximity, and it makes sense for some of the veneer to fall off. Very 'don't meet your heroes' type stuff, because they're probably not everything you build them up to be. This tracks very closely to IRL mythological pantheons like the Olympians - Zeus for instance was a badass, but also a giant douche.
Ulimately a matter of personal preference in story telling though, so w/e.
