Holy shit, I honestly forgot it would be today. Seeing someone tell me "they revealed the next three expansions" on Discord hit like a fucking truck. Well, it doesn't seem too awful. A bit out of left field, not sure how I feel about the new logo style, but it's definitely interesting as a change of pace. Like that we're seeing more nerubian content. Delves seem enjoyable. Kind of sparse information, though. Not sure I'm an exceptionally big fan of them revealing exactly one allied race, though I've only seen the website thus far. Cautiously optimistic about what having an explicitly-named "Worldsoul Saga" means. Some of the design changes are a bit jarring, and I'm not sure where some of these locations are supposed to be; having the Arathi fight nerubians feels a bit odd, especially if they're meant to be under Dorn,—again, I'm not sure as I'm currently just reading the website,—and it does feel like they may just be using nerubians for want of some other Aqir race. I'm hoping they wind up playable, as the Earthern aren't quite my cup of tea. Big fan of the Hero Trees thing, though. That seems very fun. Same with making dynamic flying universal, though everybody saw that one coming.

I believe if you rewatch they said "the next 30 years of Warcraft" and "the next 20 years of WoW" separate from each other but both sentiments are mostly figurative and hopeful not literal guarantees.

If I had to take a guess, this is going to be a (major?) part of Anduin's story arc. His inner struggle after being dominated by Arthas and presumably(as per the new cinematic) losing connection to the Light(unless "I have no Light" is meant as "I have no hope" and I just misunderstood it).

If we are just going to the continents again, there is no reason to say "return to the old world", so it made me think it was time travel

I woudlnt. He was pretty wrong. All he got right was basic underground and anyone could have called that with Khaz Algar. He got tinkers and Undermine wrong etc.

I'm pretty sure I said that a new class was unlikely in this expansion. Also I did say Nerubians would be in the picture. As for Undermine, that could very well appear in a future patch.

In the end, I stated that the next expansion would be underground and most of you complained about it and said I was being mean for downplaying Avaloren. I'm happy that many of you changed your tune and are now excited about an underground expansion. I figured you would be.

Also how about Thrall and that key art?

Minor point of interest about the logos for the next three expansions: Looks like the world itself begins to shatter, erupts with void, and then gets encircled by a titanforged ring.

My guess therefore is that Azeroth will likely emerge from the world and get corrupted by the void, becoming the dark titan and allowing the void to cross over into reality, but the titans will return and forge an artificial ring to stabilize and preserve the world so that we mortals can continue to survive on it.


And I'll make a big prediction based on Metzen's broad narrative outline for the saga and what major plot threads will be left at the end:

The Worldsoul Saga will see the Light overcome and banish the Void, and the Pantheon of Order will fall from grace, deposed if not destroyed. With the defeat of the titans and the void lords, the Light will ascend to primacy as the strongest cosmic Pantheon, and the true Pantheon of Disorder will be unleashed from wherever the Titans obviously imprisoned them long ago -- probably Zereth Ordos or Zereth Tumult. And with this shift, Illidan and Sargeras will return, seeking to restore the proper balance of the universe. This will lead to a new war between Light and Disorder, which will form the foundation of the next Warcraft Saga.

So uh, what about the sword? Looked like it was used as a hype shot for the trailer but doesn't seem to actually be involved in the expansion's story?

I would guess it'll be the focus of the pre-expansion event.

After digesting the announcements on my way home from work, I'm reasonably excited. I do still feel a bit dubious about Midnight and The Last Titan, I'll need to see what else we get besides revamped zones to be really excited (also I will be shocked if Avaloren's not involved in the Last Titan somehow but I digress).

Also got to thinking, we still lack heritage armors for three races, right? Pandaren, Trolls, Draenei. Well. Khaz Algar's apparently near Pandaria, and Midnight involves the Light and is at least partly located in Quel'thalas where there are forest trolls. I can see the heritage armors coming into play there for them. Just a thought.

And I also got to thinking about the Song of the Depths book. Safe bet to say these nerubians are the Children of the First Flesh? Xal'atath's gathering them, after all.

I wonder if "Void Hunter" is just a moniker to describe Alleria, or could be a Hero talent tree for Hunters.

We need to see more of Alleria's abilities. Maybe she can weave the Void into her fighting style in a unique way that justifies Hunters getting a "Void Hunter" hero talent tree.

We are not traveling back in time.
