Metaphor for Azeroth being a prisoner, yes. Or the rings are deep under the crust.

    On another note.
Seeing how Season of Discovery is currently being hardcore datamined is just sad.
It destroys the whole Community Idea of finding and seeing these things, and it will just turn out to be another patch.
Heres to hope that there is still a lot of hidden stuff.

How are they datamining it? I thought there wasn't going to be a PTR.

1.15 became dataminable on the ptr because the classic era servers are getting the same patch, just with the discovery set deactivated.

Because for the life of me, I just can't see how Amirdrassil just popping into the Ohn'ahran plains will make it feel remotely like an appropriate home for the Night Elves.

    Green hills.
    Wind-swept cliffs.
A general theme that invokes memories of Nagrand, Desolace, etc.

The home of the Night Elves needs forests, and preferrably enchanted ones. Not just a single tree.

Hopefully, Amirdrassil just ends up being a fancy cottage that lets you teleport to various nature-themed zones like the Emerald Dream, Ashenvale, etc., or it has a single portal in its midst that leads to a Night Elf-exclusive little instance which is a wild forest no one else can reach.
There is enough room to transfer the whole Emerald Dream zone into the empty space west of Ohn'ahran planes. The corners of the ED zone match the circle of mountains on the sea.

I'll be shocked if they don't transfer that done to Dragon Isles by the end of the expansion. Upper Ohn'ahran is grassy fields, but the coastal area is dense forest, and the new island from Emerald Dream with Amirdrassil and surrounding forests will just add to it.

I think the tree will enter the mortal world after the Worldsoul Saga is finished.

I doubt that, since Alpha/Beta it was obvious that something is missing from that hole in the ocean. I think if a transfer is going to happen, it will be within Dragonflight.
At a later point it will be a much less epic moment when Dragon Isles aren't as relevant as they are now.

Maybe that's the point, considering it's not going to be about the Dragon Isles, but a fully grown world tree the size of Teldrassil, something which Amirdrassil currently isn't.

The tree growing out of Emerald Dream, directly into Dragon Isles seems to be fitting the follow-up narrative after we save Emerald Dream from Fyrakk. I guess that might be a part of minor patch questline, something like 10.2.5.
It would be, once again, quite a disappointment, if this story does not get resolved on spot, while it's still fresh and engaging. But who know, right

The tree belongs to the Dragon Isles. I mean the entire story has mostly been about dragons, not elves.

The story of the tree hasn't. It's been spanning two expansions now.

The idea of Sargeras being a misunderstood renegade who just wants to free Azeroth is interesting, but I think there's just too much old lore that contradicts it. Even in Legion, Sargeras speaks directly to Aggramar and tells him they need to complete the rebirth [of the Titans into a Dark Pantheon] so they can go bananas on the universe.

It is possible that he wanted to set her free just to disrupt his fellow Titans' plans, though. But I'm still leaning a bit more towards him just seeking to destroy her.

Although there is some interesting lore on his relationship with the worldsoul.

The Scepter of Sargeras is known for the gleaming jewel that adorns its apex. Many theorize that it represents Sargeras's baleful eye, which caught only a glimpse of Azeroth before the fallen titan was ripped back to the Twisting Nether. But the truth is far different.

Soon after the War of the Ancients, Sargeras had a vision: the Well of Eternity imploded once again, but this time, it dragged him down to the very core of Azeroth. He was there for only an instant, but in that moment, he saw Azeroth's slumbering world-soul--and in that moment, the world-soul opened one eye and gazed at the Dark Titan. He was enraptured.

Since then, the eye of Azeroth's world-soul has not been far from his thoughts. He commanded the eredar who forged the scepter to crown it with that lone, wondrous orb. Next to it, the eredar placed two nathrezim wings, a testament to Sargeras's conception of the world-soul: corrupted, demonic, and most importantly, his.
If we look up the meaning of the word enraptured, we get this from Google:

give intense pleasure or joy to.
"Ruth was enraptured by the sleeping child"
So I guess it is theoretically possible that he went from "wrraaaah, the worldsoul must be destroyed!" to "aaaw, I can save her!".

    Edit

    Oh, and yay 3000!

Still wishing 10.2.5 comes with more druid races. Let the Emerald Dream events be springboard for more druidism.

Though the Earthern lacking druids doesn't look good for th prospect.

And it's story last expansion was for both Ysera and Tyrande. Why, I don't know.

    3k!!!

I really wonder what the unexpected content (or something like that) during shadowlands that they teased in a recent interview is.
Is it just the world tree transfering to Azeroth? (for us forum dwellers/wowhead viewers/redditors this is expected, but vast majority of the playerbase doesn't visit fansites).
I hope that by that they don't just mean more story content with lame twists or points

It would be nuts if Elun'Ahir/Erinethria/Avaloren was somehow part of Dragonflight, in a more story-focused sense.

Not sure how it'd work out, but maybe Tyr awakens and something in the Emerald Dream pushes that narrative further, of the realms of Life and what lies beyond the Dream, of Tyr's allegiances, of Eonar's role within the Pantheon and her relationship with Elune, the role of World Trees in general, etc. and how it all connects back to Azeroth and its worldsoul.

I don't know. I feel like there's an opportunity to expand on all of that lore before War Within, so the expansion has more context.

Maybe we find out Avaloren isn't some place in the physical world we can go and play around in for two years. It's not a continent. Instead, it's like... the source of the Dream, or some plane of existence on Azeroth that is in another dimension, or up in the sky or whatever. Perhaps it's Azeroth before the Old Gods arrived, you know. Some primordial paradise full of elementals.

More shamans too, whilst we are at it
In one of the interviews they talked about more race/class combos but didn't commit to anything so we will probably have to wait a bit for the remaining ones.

    Yay 3k!

You know what i find weird?

Is that in 7.3.5 ending cinematic Sargeras tried to do something with Azeroth WITHOUT immediately cutting it in half. No, he hanged there in a giant cloud of smoke and did something without us seeing it.
And only when the sucky beam hit him, his last "NO!" was him putting his sword into the planet.

What i find weird is that he didnt immediately nuke the planet. We all didnt think much about that, because we presumed its just the meaningless detail, gameplay flaw so to speak, but now, with World Soul Saga reframe, i start thinking that maybe initially Sargeras want to do something with Azeroth WITHOUT destroying the planet in the process.

Maybe he tried to free her, or cure her, or destroy without harming the people, and only when he realized he isnt going to make it in time, he drove the blade into it.

Maybe he actually had good non-destructive intentions at first.
