This collection of short stories provide a glimpse into the upcoming World of Warcraft: The War Within expansion.

    Release Date: November 5, 2024

Is this supposed to tell the story before the expansion comes out? does this mean expansion will be delayed

Might just be the same as the sylvanas or lichking book which both came out while the expan was well underway.
Evil only wins when it spreads. It can cause destruction, it can cause death—but those are consequences of its nature, not its victory. Not its goal. The danger of evil, the purpose of evil, is that it causes those who would oppose it to become evil also.

There's a healthy and wide middle ground between "cartoonish BfA civilian genocide simulator" and "factions practically nonexistent, all faction leaders are best friends with near identical personalities". The factions are a defining pillar of the franchise and one of the few elements that travels with us between expansions. The closest to a replacement they've mustered up is the strong class fantasy in Legion, but these throwaway brand new neutral factions with a shelf life of 2 years aren't doing it at all.

This, sadly they no longer do pre-release stuff because people complained that they didn't want to "have to read" a book in order to find out whats happening in an Expansion. Both the Sylvanas and War of the Scaleborn books were supposed to be pre-expansion books but both got delayed way back into the last patches because of "spoilers".

And honestly, both books would have made their respective Expansions 100000x times better if you would have read them before going into the Expansions ....

It'd be nice if they could start releasing the damn books containing vital setup and context before we dive into the expansion story....

No, but like the first act in a play, nothing much of importance is going to happen in TWW. It's nice that they're telling us they're so bad at giving plot points any kind of consequence that we should only expect a major payoff once every 3 or 4 expansions.

This. The fun thing about this .... the people who complained that you "had to read books" in order to understand said setup and context just managed that the books get released once the expansion is already over, while said setup and context are still not in the game haha.

    What?

The people complaining about having to read 3rd party books are absolutely in the right to complain.
Blizzard is quite litterally charging you extra, so you can fully understand the context of the story, of a game, you already paid for.

That has however nothing to do with when and how the books get released.

You are conflating 2 entirely different things.
One is about accessibility and monetization, the other is a pure narrative issue.

New wow book was just added to amazon for pre-order seems to be a collection of short stories

    https://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraf...=142VEBBYSQL0U

From deep beneath the surface of Azeroth, a mysterious voice cries out for heroes. But before these brave souls heed the call, they must answer to their own voices within . . . .

-Anduin’s wanderings at last lead him to the solitude he seeks, until his peace is shattered in a heartrending tale by Christie Golden.

-Andrew Robinson takes Gazlowe to a struggling goblin city, where he aims to inspire its citizens to more worthy ambitions.

-Thrall grapples with his son’s coming of age in a heartfelt story by Jonathan Maberry about what it means to love and let go.

-Delilah Dawson gives voice to Alleria Windrunner, desperate to connect with her son in a tense, bittersweet journey home.

These tales—besides more from Catherynne M. Valente and Courtney Alameda—portray the poignant, introspective moments set to proceed World of Warcraft’s highly anticipated The War Within expansion. As these larger-than-life heroes grapple with their next steps, a greater threat looms, one that will lead them to raise arms again to fight for the fate of Azeroth. Despite the chasm of varied backgrounds, allegiances, and choices that divide them, these tales prove that even in the darkest times, home unites us all.
Don't really have anything to say about it besides......man…you’d think for the War Within, ‘the’ dwarf themed expansion, and considering they are involved in the plot, you’d think one of these short stories would be about Moira, Magni or say, Dagran Jr, his coming of age and dealing with the prospect of ruling Ironforge himself now that he's older and how this ties into and end up with him going to Khaz Algar rather then a story about Gazlowe of all people

There are at least three more stories.
besides more from Catherynne M. Valente and Courtney Alameda
Aside from Gazlowe, we knew about the other three being part of TWW. So, it is to assume, the other three stories will be about characters that might be a bit spoilery. Just wait and see.

Hmmm, I wonder if the rumors of us venturing to Undermine in TWW are true.....

Could work as a patch zone, or a mega dungeon/Raid.
    A Zone would be preferable...

Yeah, but Undermine mid-expansion imperils the chances of Tinker inclusion with Undermine. I suppose that would simply increase the chances of a technology class in TLT, but I would have preferred to keep both options on the table.

Undermine sounds like a good place to put a megadungeon, similarly to Mechagon and Tazavesh. If we are going to get a technology class, I think a Titan tech "Artificer" concept is more likely compared to a class primarily based on gnome and goblin tech that shares its themes with engineering, anyway.

hmm, now that i read that. I feel a mega dungeon would actually be really bad for undermine. It would have so much of a theme overlap with both these places, that it could feel like a rehash, instead of something new (and would remind people of BfA & SL). Perhaps than, rather a raid than a mega dungeon?

TBF, it could also be like Zaralak Caverns; 3-4 zones and a raid. I could imagine Gallywix would be the likely antagonist/last boss.

Interesting. I didn't catch that part. I'm guessing Moira and Talanji will be 2, at least, as both were spotted in screens from Blizzcon. That leaves one more. hmmm

I currently think baine could be one. Going down to the Earthmother… and by the title of the book, he has a lot of inner things he would have to process through. Though, the baine story in DF might already cover that.

I think one of the stories is definitely going to tie into Magni or what happens to him (probably death), which explains why they are being so coy about Moira and her son.
