I believe it's usually around 1:30/1:45 EST that it comes around, sometimes a little later, but we are a day late. I think you're right, it may be shelved for now, which is a huge bummer. Blizzard's communication lately has been great, this would be a massive hit to that.
I see two plausible reasons for the silence on 10.2.6.
1. They literally fired the person responsible for putting these announcements together for Twitter and YouTube, and are now scrambling.
2. They're planning some type of sneaky shadow drop, perhaps even without a public PTR. Just boom, here's some cool content.
I'd assume reason 1 given their entire social presence vanished after Thursday until we got an abrupt SoD update at 6:30 PM PST that doesn't have the emoji checklist style of update posts that the account always does. Microsoft was firing community managers at Bethesda as well, so it's pretty clear their stance is that money spent on customer communication would be better invested into shareholder pockets.
Yeah, Warcraft Team isn't exactly known to do a good job in terms of communication and Dragonflight only really turned around the communication approach thanks to the CM Team.
I mean, thankfully it won't be a dry period like 8.2 where they had to contact PCGamer to hype up 8.2 after little zero communication from them for months upon months.
Alpha embargo can't come soon enough.
(They should still have the WoWCast for 10.2.6 recorded and ready to pop up at some point even if all the CMs are gone, lol.)
I no longer reply to quotations beyond if you're asking a genuine question or have a non-confrontational stance.
takes 1 guy 5 mins to make a "this week in wow" post. i refuse to believe we aren't getting one anymore because of the layoffs
very disappointed with the lack of correspondence this week
Yeah, the main US CMs are still there. I get the whole "everyone and their mom got fired" sentiment but fact is that the WoW team is the least affected out of all of them and if they are it's either on the esports, international or shared team side of things. There's probably quite a bit of demotivation and time off going on right now, though.
Do we know who was doing those Week posts though? Just because the "main" CMs are there doesn't mean that they're the one(s) who did it.
Seems an odd turn to suddenly just not want to do them anymore, you ask me.
But yeah morale is definitely down over there. My friend at Blizzard, who thankfully survived the layoffs, is real down about it in general, understandably.
I'm just happy they're ok.
I mean, they have posted news today. So I think 10.2.6 is just wrapped in secrecy and surprise, tbh. Yes, it's a little annoying to be a few weeks into 10.2.5 without any news yet. But I think there's a plan.
The patch didn't have any features listed on the roadmap either, which is also a first. And Holly Longdale keeps doing her eyes emoji.
I think we'll be surprised in some way, either tonight or within the coming 7 days.
yeah i mean we'll have to wait and see, but theyre really just mounting expectations by doing this plus all the vagueposting the devs are doing on twitter about it. They're essentially setting everyones expectations to be super high because theyre hyping it up so much. Not saying it WONT be good, but if it gets revealed and its just something average it will be significantly more disappointing than if it were just revealed normally
Tbh, I'll be perfectly happy with something as modest as a little discovery/adventure theme around the coming Seaaon 4. Pirate shenanigans on the Dragon Isles or whatever.
The dream would be all sorts of crazy stuff, like a journey to Plunder Isle, our own pirate ships, or even player housing as some have speculated (for some reason). But I won't set myself up for that kind of disappointment.
A tie-in with SoD would be perfect imo. They've even been playing with the crazy spell effects during the Superbloom in 10.2. I could see a Torghast-like system of tweaked abilities to spice things up during S4. What's there to lose for Blizzard? It would allow them to test a few things out for the Hero Talent system as well.
