If HOTS hadn't been such a pathetic failure, I could see a new MOBA gamemode similar to Smite, where you play (exclusively) Warcraft characters from a third-person perspective, in the WoW engine of course.

They were already trying to do something similar in MoP:

    https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Defense_of_the_Alehouse

How unfortunate that HOTS was such a miserable failure, I don't see Blizzard trying anything Moba-related ever again. How it must sting.

I'm fine with Plunderstorm staying as long as they integrate it into the main game. It rubs me the wrong way to have this isolated mode with no connection to your characters outside of the WORLD of warcraft.

This is literally Blizz intention for this mode to require no game purchase, no game time spent and pretty much zero WoW knowledge. So anyone can just try it.

I think the way it is done now, it will be the only way it will work.
Any new game modes that will happen, it will be probably similar to how we enter plunderstorm, because it has it's own thing, gameplay is totally different and all other things.

If they did Moba ala smite version it would be done the same way for example, i just hope next modes will have both pve version and pve with the same rewards.

I'm fine with the gameplay. It's just let us use our own characters and add the access point to the retail client. I don't like the disconnected aspect.

I think at most you will be able to name your character and then just use the same customization options you have on your main world character, i think it's one of things missing in this plunderstorm mode - You use your battlenet name instead of written character name.

Fun to see players sharing Plunderstorm stories and the feedback as the event evolves! We have S4 coming up and news soon (tm) for all you PvEers curious what we have in store for you. We are experimenting leading up to TWW. Still more on tap!
After reading Holly tweet i wonder if Timerunning pandamonium will be partially a separate game mode too, but for PvE or just it will be "quick" version of MoP progress with option to copy your character or something and then getting rewards on your mains.

If it's a massive, full-scale timewalk for Mists of Pandaria then I can see that being an "experiment". But I think it would be in the main game.

Instead of it just being something you queue dungeons for, for a week, the entire expansion comes back for a season.

Oh yeah i would prefer it on main game too, but i wonder what type of "experimenting" they will have for that one.

It's so weird to see a bunch of streamers/voices talking about how Plunderstorm should've been it's own separate client and launcher, should've been F2P with skins, will never hook the BR community into WoW, approached the wrong ways, etc.,

I didn't get the impression that Plunderstorm was made to bring in more subscribers. It felt like the devs were super clear about this being an event for current subscribers to all versions of the game (which in turn would make it accessible to their whole umbrella).

It also felt clear that the intention behind this wasn't to just create a new game, but to use a side event to test a huge feature being added into WoW for more future usage. We could see the return of Plunderstorm with a fresh coat of paint, or we could see the return of Plunderstorm that is far more integrated into the base of WoW. This is only just to prove to the devs that the feature is worth the time put into it and engaging to players (which it seems it clearly is).

I know the WoW community is it's own biggest enemy a lot of the times, but it's just a weird argument to make when the devs seemed to be relatively clear about what they had in mind with it post announcement.

Not that I expect them to stop releasing "Classic" versions of expansions, but I wonder if this would maybe be their counter to rereleasing older expansions. By The Last Titan, we will finally hit the WoD Classic meme metric.

I assure you, if they made people download a separate client for Plunderstorm it would have less than half the players it has now.

I think they might. Cata Classic is lowkey a meme to lot of players and while Mists might be loved in retrospect it was not popular at launch and it and WoD may not have the target audience required for a classic launch. But they could do timerunning for Mists, WoD, Legion etc.

By the way, I have a theory on why it is "Timerunning" and why the movement speed stuff has been datamined: flying won't be unlocked at the start, so you have to play the campaigns the way they were designed with no flying in mind, BUT there are crazy movement options added to compensate. Also maybe they will add a speedrun mode but also say that you are free to chill and do things at your own pace.

Ummm if MoP is loved in retrospective (which is now), then it defo will have modern audience. How expansion was received at launch all those years ago is irrelevant. Who remembers Kung-Fu Panda memes when Mists were revealed VS who remembers how good ToT raid was?

    Dynamic ground mounts.

Or maybe it's just an event where you play as garrosh in vampires survivor kinda mode and you have to smash all the pandas. \m/

WoW is a business first game, not a "for fun"/"Game developer first" game.

People are just very confused how Plunderstorm fits into the picture right now other than hooking onto the Vampire Survivor datamining and thinking of Fortnite Platform concept being proposed by suits.

Although, honestly I don't think there's anything to dig for considering the origins of Plunderstorm is so easy to find and yet somehow everyone has ignored it to create their narratives this week, lmao.

For the record, this entire week was deranged and I have kind of distanced myself from it because I think people have completely lost their marbles like seriously find something actually worth screeching about like the Blizzcon Business Plan revelations for WoW's future or something not the nonsense that was spawned this week.

I no longer reply to quotations beyond if you're asking a genuine question or have a non-confrontational stance.

Didn't even consider dynamic ground mounts but that would be a great way to test them.

Yeah, it would be cool if they had these proper seasonal timerunning/timewalking expansions stuff but instead of flying mounts you would have dynamic ground mounts to kinda make it different gameplay wise than current style of dragonriding/dynamicflying that started in DF and will also be in next expansion from the very beginning, so ground mounts wont be used much by most players in normal day to day gameplay.

By the way, have we seen the "leaked" GDC presentation slides from Blizzard? If they are real, then they admit Shadowlands was a failure (in nice corpospeak way, but in bullet points explaining the different ways it was bad, and then reveal that Dragonflight/Classic SOD has had record-breaking retention and sub growth putting its currents on par with some expansion launches.

I'll see if I can get the images together and link them.

I saw them but they dont include a Y-Axis. In general I find these comparisons pointless these days because the subscription includes like 2-3 additional products. I'd love to see broken down numbers but we'll obviously never get those again.

Side note I think a timewalking event that includes the whole expansion would be extremely cool. I've long felt that timewalking should at least have some WQs in the respective continent etc.
