The world revamp dream will never die!
Anyways, my (I think valid) criticisms and concerns aside, I do hope it is fun and does well and will reserve final judgement until I try it and I pray Blizz adjusts renown gain and the event time.

I mean they had to make many entire new systems from the ground up, use entire new servers, an entire new UI and UX experience. Im sure Our resident Shaggy parrot is more knowledgeable on this than me, but this doesn't seem like it would be something quick and easy that a few devs could slap together with limited funds and resources..
Also: Blizzard never creates side-projects like that for no reason.
Some of the technology in there is probably needed for stuff in later expansions, so at most, Plunderstorm was a detour rather than a waste of time.
Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.
As far as I can tell, this largely seems to have been a push/passion project by a bunch of devs, at least initially, largely from the experimental gameplay team. There's not actually a ton of assets made or anything (very little, actually), so not a ton of artist time went into it, mostly just programmer/designer time. I doubt this took a lot of time out of any specific project as artist time is some of the most valuable time (and why they outsource a lot these days).
Side note: I can totally see them adding in a recolour of the event outfit to the Trading Post or in game shop
Would love a black recolour of the coat, cause that is basically what the Gilnean transmog outfit should have been. 3d long coat, sleeves with nice 3D cuffs, Genn style over the shoulder pauldrons, 3D cravat neck-tie
Saw this mentioned elsewhere, remember a year or so ago when Blizzard acquired the studio Proletariat who was working on some spellcasting battle royale?
Well, guess we're seeing the fruits here.
I think it may be a test for either a standalone spin off or a main feature from a future expansion or classic season.
yeah thought this too. there must be a reason to place a software dev there : D
I think this is a great event. also I love returning to arathi, I was one of the weirdos loving war fronts, so I dig the setting
I guess people really fearing PvP because they could "lose" would prbly not like this so I guess it is a 50/50 win/lose
I think some folks on twitter do have a good point about the length and such (and why it needs to be extended or renown buffed)
A lot of people work full time and have families, not everyone can play every single day.
You need to get at least 1 renown every day for the entire length of the event to get renown 40. So a minimum of one hour every day. But if you miss a single day, the next day you have to do a minimum of at least two renown (roughly justover 2 hours) to make up for the lost day. Miss a 3rd day? Now your next day you need a minimum of 3-4 hours to get 3 renown. Every day missed is another Hour+ you need to spend the next day to catch up if you want to make it to 40 renown and it just compounds on top of itself higher and higher.
A huge chunk of the player base only can play for a short amount of times (I remember a study somewhere stating that like 75% of players on average play less than 4 hours in a given play session, and thats not assuming they play every day). I dont have kids but just because of work times and other family and social stuff there cans be stretches where I dont get a chance to log in for 2-3 days. Which means the days I can login, I have to put in triple the amount of minimum time needed to hit 40 renown by the end of 6 weeks. (Assuming I dont find a miraculous day where I cna actuall play all day)
For example, Im a 30 year old with a full time job, a social life and family obligations (AND Dragons Dogma 2 comes out on Thursday days and Ive been waiting 12 years for that game)
so the like 2 days a week I'll be able to squeeze in some WoW time, I'll have to put in a minimum of 4+ hours each of those days to get 40 renown by the end of week 6

Them using the DF Renown system does warrant these FOMO criticisms. The Battlepass system is transparently maniuplative. Plunderstorm being Limited Time Plus the Renown model is just a battle pass; instead it should be more like older events, like Holidays: The rewards should be a currency, that way players can only target rewards they actually care about. This is the same reason the Trading Post is (somewhat) better than the standard Battlepass model.
Can we stop blowing the lid and wait until we see how much rep we actually get per game?
They definitely created this mode partially to have a "battlepass" system for WoW that rotates through seasons and themes (if this takes off and is continued). It isn't free because it requires a $15 sub, but there is no "premium" track for the pass as a result. I think they just realized that a battlepass didn't really work with WoW itself so they explored a battle royale standalone mode that would work well with it.
Maybe they will make the gamemode free, and the battle pass partially premium? They can definitely change how it works in the future.

I like to think that NPC was a troll created solely to tease an upcoming battle royale.
They stated in an interview that each match will give you 500
its 2500 per renown.
So 5 matches per renown roughly. And each one is roughly 10-15 min (Though wouldnt be surprised if some run longer) so an hour+ give or take for one renown
So say you can only play on weekends for example, each weekend you'd need to play 8 hours of plunderstorm minimum to get renown 40 by the end fo week 6, hence why I really really really hope Blizz buffs renown and increases the event time.
