Last expansion I can recall that DIDN'T have a main cast was TBC.

...I mean... Technically... There was Akama and Maeiv.. but they didn't show up until later. There's also Lady Liadrin but eh...

The villains were the more memorable part of that expansion than anything, though people probably didn't like the idea that the characters they played in Warcraft 3 (Illidan, Vashj, Kael'thas) were suddenly villains.

I mean TBC followed a similar model to Classic where there wasn't a main party of MCs the story focused on, it was more about the different racial questlines with a focus on the MC. It's part of the appeal of classic.

While I wouldn't mind a return to that, I think it isn't feasible in modern day storytelling and to compete with XIV (and ESO) they will have a core cast.

I don't think its that black and white. There's times where major characters are more organically woven into the narrative like MoP and then there's others like BfA and Shadowlands where their presence just feels forced. I think the later is really what some people don't want.

Pretty big. In a kingdom you can tell lots of different stories, in different zones, involve various sub-factions, etc. The Arathi in Hallowfall is fairly limited in scope.

The Hallowfall Arathi are also the one who specifically went to follow the visions of the fallen star, so presumably they are more fanatical than the average Avaloren human.

There's two weeks left before the official release of Season 4. Unless the roadmap has changed the Alpha has to start before that. Then the Pre-patch is supposed to come out early Summer. Also, implicitly everything that's in 10.2.7 would also be in the Alpha so that has to also come out before the Alpha, so we have to assume next week is 10.2.7 on the ptr & Alpha the week after that. It's either that or they release both in the same week.

Self-Found Hardcore came out before the Cata beta, for example, even though the Cata beta is before it on the roadmap.

I think 10.2.7 and Alpha will switch priority because per Hollys tweet, 10.2.7 is the alternative and "response" to Plunderstorm dislike.

Yes, but they made a formal announcement for delaying the Cata beta long before self-found was given a date. If there's no formal announcement about the Alpha delay, the releases will be in the order on the roadmap.
