Also, I couldn't help but notice that after SL and Xbox new leadership and Metzen return there is large laid off to story devs. Golden and Danuser (most of fun hated ones) was fired, other unknown I think too. Will we get some serious business with lore after that? Wheels keep turning, drama unfolding?
Like come on, new devs - new characters - new story.
Dalaran annihilation, Magni come from stoneform, Khadgar MIA, Alleria corruption. All much more darken stories then SL-DF was. And much more beleivable to me.
And more and more - "we hear your feedback, we care". Like a charm. Something changed and that change is good one. If they put less woke stuff ingame - we will eat good.
Just another reminder that corporations and workplaces aren't your family. You're needed and appreciated until you're not.
Hope Golden will get back on her feet soon. Lord knows she isn't the first or the last creative Blizzard has sacked ruthlessly. Thinking of Russel Brower for example.
Damn, losing job and family on the same day.
Pretty surprised that she got laid off.
I always imagined she'd be around until retirement. (as naive as that is).
Wish her all the best.

I think the story of Overwatch is pretty much dead. They can't keep lying to the players about caring when they cancelled the story mode and the new lore contradicts itself, like kiriko's age. The lore is just a minimal excuse for the pvp gameplay, they are not worldbuilding nor planning anything about it.
All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.
When I watched cinematic to TWW, and then words of Metzen about "starting something large from something tiny" - I think its more like "Hey, I know this cinematic is lame and we don't have time and money to redo it, but don't worry, we will deliver you some good one after"
She never decided on the main plot, she wrote around what was decided by others. How Jaina was written in Pandaria/Legion (as in the game) and how all of her work during that time did its darnest against it will tell you on that.
And given how much praise Stickney (the current MAIN narrative designer, their views on the story correlate A WHOLE LOT) and Metzen gave and still give her, don't expect "her influence" to go away any time soon (unless they get booted too, of course).
Those high quality cinematics start development maybe a year or two before it's released. Metzen worked on BFA cinematic before leaving at the start of Legion, so I guess the whole drama about "too much feelings in wow" came too late to change their plans for the cinematic.
We could still get a different one for the release trailer like they did in DF.
Perhaps the TWW cinematic was the last straw of Microsoft patience. This is a big budget cinematic that flopped due to a bad script. And the handwriting was clearly Christie Golden, Anduin and Orc talk about their feelings for a long time and without action. Chris Metzen took responsibility for this cinematic so that people don't write hate posts for Christie Golden like they did with Before the Storm.
Blizzard fired her for wasting money on unpopular things
Golden never had say in story direction.
She was working with the cinematic team to help write dialogue and scripts.
And she got fired 3 days ago.
So even if she did have any say in anything, Anduins current development was conceptualized in the last 2-3 years, not last week.

its crazy to me how people just dont know this. they bash Golden under the assumption she was in a Danuser-like position where she personally was creating the story. She was given story/lore/narrative points (written by people ON THE NARRATIVE TEAM), and she wrote books on them, helped with cinematics, etc.
Can't see the connection. Many of the people in charge of the OW2 narrative were thrown out because PVE side of the content was essentially given up on by that point (before they officially stated that they did). The respective story teams didn't even have a single shared member? Even the method on how the story was written was quite different in OW1/2.
you can blame golden for the way certain events/characters are written, but the quest writers do most of the writing. if you think wow's writing is too soft or sucks in general it's not/was not golden's fault
