Hallowfall is a very new settlement, 15 years old or so. Seeding for the Arathi Empire in the future.
Looks like Proto-Salyin to me.
Okay so some random Arathi lore tidbits in no particular order and paraphrased of course
- the Arathi have been in Hallowfall for only 15 years
- They have a large powerful empire somewhere on the other side of the Storming Sea (I think it’s safe to say this is no doubt Alvaloren)
- Their Holy Emperor had a prophecy about a star so he sent out an expedition to find it 15 years ago. As the fleet was crossing the Storming Sea they got trapped in a powerful storm that they thought would end them but at the last moment there was a blinding flash and their entire fleet was magically teleported underground into Hallowfall
- All of the Arathi, as many guessed are half elves or rather, have elven blood. Like Bretons from TES. When these Arathi left Arathor thousands of years ago, some high elves came with them and interbred into the population to the point where over generations, all Arathi have some elven features and they consider themselves their own distinct race, not elf and not human, simply Arathi
- There was an event in Hallowfall that happened a few years ago that the Arathi call the Days of Darkness. This was the very first time the Crystal turned to shadow and was preceded by a massive earthquake. Anduin and Alleria deduce this was caused by Sargeras stabbing the planet
- There is only one surviving mage among the Hallowfall Arathi and he has been trying, and failing to make a portal back to their empire for the last 15 years. But he was only an apprentice when they arrived and was never taught howto make portal back to their Empire.
- Anduin remarks that the crystals the Arathi use in their fires and rituals, while not true Azerite, is related to Azerite somehow

Probably whatever was the prepatent for humanoid Mantid. It would make some sense, given that we can see most of the other castes of post-Aqir races reflect Aqir castes (kunchong and crypt lords both look like Zek'voz's caste, nerubian viziers and mantid empresses look like Tek'ris, normal nerubians look like Ka'zir etc.)
I wonder if they're going to make it turn out that the new humanoid nerubians are an attempt to recreate those by Xal'atath, similar to how there are some new nerubians that look kind of like C'Thraxxi.

Damn man.
The Arathi became a lot more interesting.
These guys are genuinely interesting to me. I hope we see more of them—maybe they'll join the Alliance at some point, represented by adding pointed ear options to humans or even an alternative set of racials? Seems like they might at least go for the former, if this is any indication. Could be unlocked by a quest like the dark ranger customizations.
With this being known, it'd also mean whatever is protecting Avaloren would've manifested within the last two-odd millennia. Maybe the original colonists accidentally triggered some kind of titanic defense after they landed on the island, leaving the storms to ravage their fleets after they finally tried crossing back over fifteen years ago?

If their Emperor isn't an extremely thinly veiled expy of the one we're all thinking of Blizzard will have missed a massive opportunity.
Dickmann's Law: As a discussion on the Lore forums becomes longer, the probability of the topic derailing to become about Sylvanas approaches 1.
Tinkers will be the next Class confirmed.
All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.

Great, now I'm more hyped about visiting Avaloren than Hallowfall.![]()
If the storms only started in the last few thousand years, catching them unaware as they travelled back to this side of Azeroth, then I wonder when and why they began.
IIRC we used to speculate that Odyn perhaps erected the storms as a defensive barrier, a way to keep the Avalorians at bay (or perhaps hidden away from the rest of the world). If, indeed, they are the "heretics".
So TLT seems like an opportunity to either visit, or at least explore its lore further.
But if it's a society of Light-worshippers (as implied by the fact that they only arrived in Hallowfall 15 years ago, which is a bit short of a time frame for developing a new culture), then it feels like they'd be relevant to Midnight.
Is there a scenario, perhaps, in which this new Arathi Empire comes to our aid in Midnight, thus allowing us to "banish the Shadow" as Metzen put it, but then they become our new fascist overlords trying to suppress the rest of Azeroth under their new rule? Is that what he meant by "things might not go according to plan"?
I feel like it could make sense that they'd want to reclaim their ancestral home.
If so, could TLT be the expansion in which Light and Order clash, each vying for dominance on Azeroth?
Then, boom, sneaky Elune third faction shows up and Life prevails.

I have 2 theories about that Arathi stuff.
1. That "flash of light" thing can be not only teleportation to the place, but also to the time? That can explain that they are Arathi from 800+ years ago, but bringed into the future to help Beledar and Naaru in there.
2. Their years are not same as surface years. Like their circles can be more like 50 years? They are half-elves, their lifespan and feel of time can be different.
And another rant about half-elves. There should not be entire civilization of them, as stated before - its very rare occasion to half-elves be borned. Arathor and Vereesa twins plus Alodi was only ones who was mentioned before.
