I remain morbidly curious about how they'll handle it in this upcoming Chronicle, given what a mess it is. The whole 'slip and your soul is perma destroyed' bit is hilarious, especially given that the two afterlives that work best, Maw aside, Maldraxxus and Ardenweald are a lot more sensible in this, with the latter just being a recycling station for gods with perma death being a necessity and the former being by far the most interesting one in a place where no one really dies so everyone is recycled into becoming stronger and stronger as part of its permanent arena. Mind, Maldraxxus would be even better if all the Scourge 'memberberry appearances were cut.

Yeah, Maldraxxus contradicts with the rest of the zones in the expansion as I said earlier. Not my problem, ask Danuser why that is.

There's actually an explanation, since Maldraxxus works by undeath rules, e.g. the soul isn't perfectly connected to the vessel, so when it dies, it just switches. It's why killing a Maldraxxi is no big deal, but it's played for drama when you see the Kyrians, with their souls still connected to them, being stitched into abominations which still host their collective souls.

I wonder if in the new Shadowlands you can sign up for the skeleton war, get tired of being reincarnated as a thing a couple hundred times, then tell Pelagos you want to go somewhere else and 5 minutes in your new afterlife you autorun off a cliff and die forever. Skeleton war always wins baby!

He should deny your request and mail you back to the skeleton war. You've no right to sign off from the only part of the afterlife expansion that actually though its premise through to its logical conclusion and did something interesting.

Wonder if we'll get another Tuesday alpha build this week

If we had to fill in the blanks I think it's pretty simple.

If anima can be taken, given or exchanged to souls, but also used to create objects in the Shadowlands, its simply a resource. The bodies we have in the shadowlands are like the buildup of excess anima, like a corroded battery. As long as your soul still has some anima you live on, only once you're inside the shadowlands you don't leave when you die. Discarded Anima is recycled back into the world of the living as living things also use anima to grow.

"Permadeath" or "oblivion" or "ego death" is just returning to the Twisting nether, which is what was canon originally. You lose all memories & anima so its essentially hitting erase on a save file. Existentially, "you" still exist, but its been stripped of everything that makes you an individual, so in that sense "you" no longer exist.

The OG wow website back in 2004 described souls returning to the twisting nether. Resurrection was possible but with many exceptions. While demons were unique in that they could return from the twisting nether by the will of Sargeras.

So far Blizzard is really quiet this week.

I am pretty sure you could do that with the old Shadowlands as well. We know that a soul that went to Revendreth and managed to deal with the weight of their sins got the chance to either become a Venthyr or be sorted again and we know an Aspirant who failed to pass the tests could also request to be sorted again. So I don't see what would stop you from leaving the other afterlives if you really wanted to. You just could not do it during SL because the lack of anima had cut off the bridges and the sorting machine was broken.

I mean, it really should not be that complicated.

Just say that the Necrolords know how to preserve a soul post second death.
Kill a Necrolord and their magic either stays off annihilaton for a time, or just slows down the process a lot.

Souls being indestructible barring extremely special circumstances (Fel magic in the WoW universe) is the default assumption in fantasy imo.

The only reason I want beta to arrive is because it should open up character copies, making the whole testing of the warband feature a lot more interesting. So far I'm a bit limited with what I can do on the alpha haha.

Yeah this. My only activity during Beta will be flying through new continent and testing how warbands works with copied character.

Especially I hope we get all possible transmog from quests retroactively. I really don't want to do loremaster or for example shadowlands campaigns again in the future.

They said that's how it's supposed to work, but yeah, would like to test both the transmog and achievement changes with my retail chars tbh.

Is that less complicated? It would be hilarious if they had two armies who's job was to protect the shadowlands & only showed one how to bring back those who fell in battle.

    What 2 armies?
The Necrolords are the only standing army.

What do you think all that military training in Bastion is for?

Or are you saying that because Kyrians have wings they're technically not the army; they're air force.
