Yeah the light/void is almost guaranteed to continue into Midnight just off what we know. Sunwell and ... midnight. But I think Beledar will need to be resolved in TWW and I doubt this expansion will end without a more direct conflict with Xal. So when I'm saying Light/void, I don't mean it's resolved, I just mean thematically that's what I'm expecting it to be.

To me the deeper into the world part will be undermine, harronir elune tree roots and some sort of Titan defense force (like those big robots in Dorn for the skyriding WQ and the world boss).

Could be we dislodge the Beledar during TWW and it then becomes part of the Midnight plot.

Given that it teleported the Arhai there it could very well just teleport it self away, Mabye plop into the sunwell?
All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.

Heck maybe Xal hijacks it, turns it into void and drops it into the Sunwell and that starts Midnight.
Maybe it just sits there in the sky and blocks out the sun itself in its void phase.

We defeat the Void and cut it off from Azeroth forever by using the Beledar as a drain plug.

Beledar imploding into void black hole. Mereldar obliterated including the entire expedition and all Arathi characters. Lets up some stakes.

Would love. Who knows maybe it happens. Maybe just Faerin survives cause she is with us.

none may survive. Could also lead to the Empire blaming us somehow and being antagonists. Unlike the more probable boring 'you these guys helped us, accept them!'.

That thing may very well be larger than Quel'danas. I don't think "plop in" is the right term for that.

The sunwell seems pretty huge lore wise, the complex it is in might be as big as it.

tbh the difference is kind of illusory. My posts lately have been pretty low-effort and seethy and haven't contributed much more than making page count increase faster.

So what are everybody's hopes and dreams for Warcraft Direct?

    Here's what I'm hoping for:

    • 11.0.7 and 11.1 deep dive for Modern WoW, plus a 2025 roadmap. I think Midnight details makes sense, but it kinda feels like they'll want to keep that for Spring or Summer.
    • Something fresh for Classic, like a new server for Vanilla, TBC or WotLK. Classic+ would be the dream, though. Somebody suggested "what happened on Azeroth when we went to Outland" as a possible premise, which sounds neat.
    • Hearing a lot about a potential 2.0 patch for Warcraft 3 right now. Would be great if that game was invigorated with some new features, improved graphics and perhaps even a new campaign.
    • We already have a new Hearthstone expansion coming soon, but I would appreciate if these guys came out and clarified the future of the game. Particularly some insurance that their upcoming year won't feel as childish and disconnected.
    • Rumble feels s bit dead. I'd like to see their vision for a 2.0 refresh that is less grindy.
    • HotS is only tangentially related so not much hope for it at this event, but I'd like to see it return. So many potential new heroes from more recent Warcraft lore.
    • Finally, there's always hope for something entirely new. A "one more thing" moment. New game? Animated series?

99% of Shadowlands lore is retconned anyhow. It wasn't just because of the Jailer either.

It was the terrible writing with Sylvanas, promoting an Arthas return, the Dreadlords actually serving death rather than the Burning Legion, missing storylines in Revendreth regarding Lorthraxion, missing storylines regarding Nathanos supposedly turning up otherwise what the fuck was the point in him willingly die in the pre-patch, COVID, Bobby Kotick, FF14 overtaking WoW as the biggest MMO for a short period when the boom happened until DF release.

That's actually a huge list to why people should consider SL lore retconned. The only 3 which people should factor in which is still in the current timeline is Sylvanas is banished to the maw, the Dreadlords have a leader who's still alive and The Jailers attempts to manipulate the Forge of Orginination

None of it has been retconned so far. Something not being mentioned is not a retcon, it's just information that isn't currently relevant. A retcon would require that new information contradicts established fact retroactively.

And your list is rather tiny and mostly just wishful thinking.

Maybe, but I can see it going the way of WoD. Barely mentioned, almost fully omitted, unless they need a tie in to bring Denathrius back or something.

I feel we repeat this discussion many times. There are no hard and big retcons in WoW period. They even bend backwards to fit nonsensical TBC story into Legion when Illidan returned.

What we have a lot of are - often low quality - recontextualizations. But I can't see how it could be avoided in a story that has no end and is passed from person to person for 20 years.

Of course we can have small unintentional retcon here and there, mostly because lore is so vast it's very easy to make mistake.

You tell Geya'rah that she isn't actually in Dornogal, then.

Of course Alt!Draenor is no longer a meaningful factor. It's now completely disconnected from us and neither side can affect the other anymore.

For that matter, when was the last time somebody mentioned the Twilight Highlands? Winterspring? Feralas? This is normal. Something having relevance again is the exception.

Remember when Eredar and Draenei were unrelated species? I do.

I was speaking about WoW, not Warcraft in general.

Yeah, and in Vanilla they were still seperate.

    Vanilla had lore?

To be serious, you may be right, although it would be helpful if you link quest about Eredars pre-TBC.
