IF console play is the big surprise, I’m just envisioning all this hype/excitement boiling down to, “you all have consoles right?!?”
Do we really need that, again, but for WoW this time?? Ha

Console announcement would certainly be some big news but I also don't think it'd be that big. For the vast majority of those that play on PC, they'd remain there, I'm sure. So it'd have a real "ok so what's in it for me?" feel.
Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.
Very much so. And WoW doesn't exactly demand a ton of resources, so it isn't that hard (nor expensive) to find a PC that can run it. Most console players probably have a PC of some sort around even if they don't use it primarily for games. The biggest barrier to a console version of WoW is how mandatory most add-ons are for QoL (or even just for efficacy like DBM and Recount). Unless they also announce they are baking in a bunch of features currently only provided by add-ons (which would actually be pretty significant news) I can't see people being that excited for a console port.
As an aside to the speculation on the Direct's announcement;
I really enjoy the Secrets of Azeroth style questing. I think this is a huge opportunity to reapproach quests in a way that feels tangential to what Classic leveling felt like. I really apprecaite putting in the time to think about what I'm doing and being rewarded with currency for great transmog sets. I hope that this extends past a holiday event and becomes the standard for story questing. If they can reframe it past being a detective, I think this could be an incredible way to do some non combat story telling.
I would certainly be disappointed if the nudge nudge special announcement wink wink is just a console port.
Except for the fraction of console players in the playerbase, most people aren't gonna be affected by it.
I hope its an actual piece of content.

As big an announcement generally a console port is, it does nothing for a vast majority of existing players. So for most. It's cool but not exiting.
Ive been expecting them to really shake the foundation of wow up after this saga, excited to see if this announcement may be the start of that.
The fact that they distinguished it from what's coming next for Modern and Classic makes me think that it'll be another new game mode separate from both. Like Plunderstorm or Remix, though hopefully more permanent and less gimmicky.
From the video for the University of Washington collab with Warcraft... have we seen this armor before?
Here's how I'd react to the popular theories, if one of them were to be true:
WoW on Console: Amazing. I've been looking to cut back on my PC gaming for years, and I prefer playing WoW casually anyway. If I can chill on my sofa and pick herbs, and always see the new story bits without no-lifing it, that's A+ from me.
New Tinker Class: Hell. Yes. Been wanting a new class for ages, and Evoker just wasn't it for me. Would be neat to play as a sort of adventurer, a bit steampunky, with my own little gadgets and stuff. Obviously engineering on top of that. Imagine if you get a spec that lets you fight with turrets or a robot or something. Would be so cool.
Classic+: Yes, give me all the Classics. Devil is in the detail with this one, though. If it's just Season of Discovery 2, and feels too far distanced from regular Vanilla, and looks old, then my hype will be tempered. But if it's a HD version of the game, starting 20 years in the past, exploring different storylines than the main series? Gimme!
Revamp or HD refresh of WoW: This one is probably the most evergreen feature they could announce, and I'd honestly love it. It would bring new life to so much old content, inspiring you to play new alts and probably giving Blizzard an opportunity for more old world content as well.
Midnight Tease: Honestly this one makes a lot of sense. It's been a year already since the announcement, and the expansion is likely a year away still. Maybe more. It's always nice to have cool things on the distant horizon, and I am positive players feel inspired to play current content if they feel optimistic about the future. So it's a win-win.

DK tier set from DF or SL, can't remember which.
There's another still here. I'm sure it's just for the video, but the character models look new.
Everyone talking about factions or WoW 2 or classes for everyone.
I'm just going to say what everyone hates.
Housing.
Imagine if it's a sort of WoW Battlegrounds game. Pick a character and face off against different enemies or players. Level up cool abilities for this game and even new classes not available in WoW.
Or maybe something radical, like WoW Classic+ but it's not really Classic. It's WoW set in a different timeline, basically a soft reboot. Perhaps it's set in the ancient past, during the War of the Ancients or something.
As long as it isn't tied to your subscription status like FFXIV I would be really down for that. It would be another means of getting collectibles and being able to show them off (plus it has been a pretty popular idea for years). I actually think housing would fit the idea of a big announcement. Even better if they set up some achievements that let you earn portals for your home, with the first and easiest one being to your faction's capital city (and maybe flight vendors can take a fee to teleport you to your house?) that way it doesn't completely kill the social aspect of the game like garrisons did.
