On the topic of final boss of TWW I am starting to think it might not be Xal. If Ethereals are the main plot in 11.2 I think it would make more sense for someone else to be the final boss, given they might not be allied with Xal. Then again, it would be very odd if we don't fight Xal at all in TWW imo.

Phase 1 vs Ethereals, Phase 2 vs Xal and Phase 3 you split the raid to fight both?

something like that, would be pretty fun mechanically especially with p3 being focused on turning their attacks against each other

could also be one of those "split into two groups" bosses like spoils of pandaria or morchok herioc but i feel like they havent done any of those in a while

What if Orweyna is the final boss of TWW? She is one of three characters that played a role in each mayor patch so far. The other two are Alleria and Xal. And these two will carry into Midnight with near 100% certaintly. Orweyna on the other hand, has no reason to be important past TWW.

It could be something like: Etherals come to Azerotzh for some reason, and we have a showdown between the ethereals and the rootlands, with Orweyna being the final boss, perhaps corrupted by the black blood?

That's how I'd feel if she was the final boss

Considering how hyped up Xal'atath's been throughout TWW, I'd be shocked if she wasn't involved in the final fight of the expac.

I definitely think "Elf Xalatath" is going to be the final boss of the expansion and she'll play a big part in the next patch.

She'll probably transform into her "true" form and get shelved until late Midnight/Last Titan.

I would be really surprised if she was TWW final boss with how much of an engine for entire WSS she is. Midnight final boss, sure. Fits thematically, we kick her ass but she still manages to put her plans in to motion so we have something to deal with in TLT.
Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.

The eel model and animations are so detailed in 11.1 that I think it will be used for something that appears a lot. Maybe a new mana wyrm? Or something in Karesh.

I hope when we get to karesh we have Al-Mi'raj (unicron rabbits) as a creature type, one would make an excellent spirit beast pet for hunters at the very least

Well, there is not a single big bad in TWW that can serve as an overarching final boss for TWW outside of Xal, and making her the final boss, is a blow to midnight in a away. So that doesn't leave us with much. I guess some ethereal as a final boss is also an option, considering how TWW panned out. We start with Locus-Walker, then Ky'veza and now Azir. A face-heel turn of Locus-Walker also seems more to fit for Midnight, but given the importance of ethereals now, perhaps him?

Orweyna and the Harranir are going to be relevant in TLT and probably beyond that. The Life theme has been build for some time now and they will be a big part of it.

I think that Xal'athat is the most likely option for final boss in TWW. We fight her elven form now and her true form later on in the WSS.

Locus Walker could definitively be a boss in the future, but Blizzard has been developing him very little since his introduction. Suddenly becoming a final boss in TWW seems like a big mistake IMO, they would have to tell us his story and motives in just 11.2. But they did that with N'zoth in 8.3 so they might make the same mistake.

i'm not sold on a elf form Xal as a final boss for TWW.

I would rather see the old god creature from the mural, heck even Beledar as a final boss for TWW before using Xal. Xal should be our Gul'dan in Midnight, the final boss of the first raid.

I don't really want her to get transformed into her 'true' form, I just think she's more interesting with a mortal embodiment, there's too many villains that are abstract/gigantic deities, also I like that shes very expressive, she'd be boring as a big tumor

But that's on Blizzard being incredibly uncreative with Old God design/any villain design.

I am presuming Rootlands is going to be 11.2 and we are going there via the other entrance in The Coreway.

Considering Rootlands are above Ringing Deeps - it seems logical. Another ways are tunnel above Waterworks and tunnel above Azj'Kahet. Multiple entrances are quite welcome.

I think Xal'atath will either die in Midnight or be weakened enough that she won't be a problem in TLT. Especially if the Void won't be a problem anymore going to TLT.

Thats like the only place we can be absolutely sure where the rootlands are not.
