I don't think Midnight will add a new class. How much room is there for new classes in WoW anyway? Many of them can just become hero talents now. And since hero talents were advertised as an evergreen feature, I think we'll get a lot of new ones in Midnight as well as extensions to the current ones. Warden, for instance, would work better as a hero talent for Hunter than a new class.

There was a German survey a few months ago asking people what they thought of a bunch of classes, I'm gonna assume we're gonna get another class at some point.

honestly my favorite part of the lead up to an expac announcement, most of the "leaks" make no sense, but its so fun to see what people come up with, and a lot of the time some people guess stuff right.

I'm familiar with the survey, but I don't think it was ever 100% confirmed to be real. Either way, 90% of the classes on that list would work better as hero talents. Leyweaver, Titankiller, Astrologian, Celestial Lancer, Gunner, Gunslinger, Witch - they all sound like new hero talents for existing classes.

I could see Tinker becoming a new class in The Last Titan, though. And potentially Bard sometime in the future.

She does mean Sylvanus, specifically undead. But in Midnight Dark'han will return to lead the new Necromancer playable class to help defend Silvermoon from the void. (its okay, he repented in Revendreth, don't ask any questions)

Nobody would expect Necromancers in Midnight.

I mean, they aren't. The outfits were changed because they were glorified swimsuits, the portraits were changed because they were a woman posing in a swimsuit and a woman in a busty dress.

Let's not be dishonest about why the latter was changed. Two very different situations with almost a decade in between them. The latter happened because Blizzard was outed as a sexist and abusive company, and they had to do everything they could to save face. Alexstrasza's and Ysera's outfits were changed for the better though. They just look better now.

Remember how Blizzard had to come out and say that they won't be touching players outfits though because people complained. And they even have been adding a couple of bikini armours since then, which is completely fine.

Agreed, although I gotta say maybe it's just me but I find hero talents a little lackluster cosmetically, I wish they actually changed the way your abilities worked or how they look, why im hoping for class skins or something big to end this saga that's been going on since 04.

I find bard as a class so funny, idk why, and I know a certain someone in here would die if we finally get Tinkers lol.

One other thing to consider is aging.

Chris himself said he softened from the edgier stuff (context was Diablo, but still) because he's an adult with children now. Mists partly proceeded after him watching Avatar with his kids. The Elemental Bonds schlock with Aggra was a blatant self-insert of his wife - the trailer shot of them in 4.2 was literally her social media avatar.

A good example is Spielberg. He removed guns from E.T. not out of censorship, but because he felt uncomfortable due to his own experience having children. He's made some adult focused films a la Bridge of Spies but he's a far cry from some of the scarier shit he did in mass appeal films. This guy will not have people graphically ripping off their faces and partially creating the PG-13 rating. Crystal Skull is sorely missing murder.

Some of this is the new generation of creators, but some of this is also old creators softening and changing their perspective. Even Kentaro Miura, RIP, said he regretted some of the edgier content without purpose in Berserk. Wyald sucks, so he wasn't wrong.

Samwise was big in the designs for SC2 and HotS and you'll notice that even when skewing some of the darker pre-existing designs, the new variations on them are softer and more cartoon-y. SC2's story was Metzen's work and it was just a WC3 retread people disliked. The Kerrigan redemption tour and end point of a romance is exactly the shit he's into.

Those days are just over. It's less about "it needs to be more dark fantasy," which it arguably never fell under, and more of the other thing you said - show don't tell, more interesting characters and settings, etc.

I don't think they can really do that in a way that satisfies the people that don't like things now until after the Worldsoul Saga, though. All these characters - Anduin, Alleria, Thrall, eventually the other two Windrunners, basically all the Arathi, modern trolls, modern undead, these are all kinda here and immutable until the big existential threat is done.

THEN maybe we can get a softer reboot and go for smaller, greyer, more Cataclysm styled stories, but that's if they even want to.

All kidding aside, aren't the undead supposed to be insensitive to Void? Maybe it's old lore, but I thought it was incredibly cool and it's never been exploited...
