So, do we think that the Velen questline coming out a week AFTER 10.1.7 launches is just "good ol' fashion" time-gating, or are there story implications from "week one" that need to play out, first?

Similar to Outriders or D4.
Increasing the world tier increases the HP/dmg of the world content and offers increased rewards. Maybe unlocks certain modes/content in the world, like helltides/world bosses in D4.
I'd guess they'd just do a normal/heroic/mythic to start.
I can't see any way its tied to the main story, unless there's a huge curveball like Denathrius or Sargeras (or Lothraxion) contributing to the Primalists.
Think its just a reason to come back after week one for diehards who will do all the story/heritage week one.
10.2: November 7th, 2023. See you, then!
If you mean Diablo, I think its contextually different. In WoW I mean the big major content patches, it makes each expansion be more valuable and such even if the expansion lasts longer, so what IMO. its a proven method that works(The speed of them coming does come into question often...and what exactly is inside but they got a good formula. Unless you mean 6.1(Selfie patch lol).
We should just take a chill pill and let the news break happen. We shoulda listened to Towellie.

I kind of forgot that there is also a secret Dracthyr story conclusion, I don't know why Blizz isn't marketing that.
I do care. I find them a good and original addition to the game and to the fantasy setting in general. They are something different. BTW I see lots of Dracthyrs, even before Augmentation happened.
We still do not know why Neltharion was so fucking scared of them, right? I find that interesting.
Hopefully we would get the regular Dragonkind as a neutral allied race to make everyone happy.
We also know that the Dracthyr will be expanded to other classes at some point. I would love them to expand the Evoker class to other races too.
Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.
The infinite skins giving all the infinite colour options on all other relevant options might just be one of those things that the devs probably don't think is worth advertising.
The gear not being a green recolour of the 10.1 set is a bit odd though. Unless the developers simply forgot to announce it. That seems unlikely however, which might be part of why Dreamsurges are not pushed more, the developers might have not had enough time to give it the attention it should have had.

I don't think they marketed the previous Dracthyr questlines, so they might simply be holding those back as exciting presents for the Evoker players to experience.
The world revamp dream will never die!
10.1.7 hasn't even come out yet. That's the thing over the horizon.
Putting up a new ptr the same week a patch goes live is a massive improvement to the rate in which blizzard distribute content & that's already not fast enough for people? I'm just shocked how half this forum is like "Where's the content; I need new content constantly or I'll starve to death" and the other half is "I expect an 11 month content drought before the next expansion."Honestly they just need design racial chargers & totems respectively. The only difficult one both in terms of assets & setting explanation, is druids.
I love the pacing of things in DF. Come next week, it's NON STOP!
Yup. The Primal Incarnates are only such a big deal because they empowered themselves with the elements, yet the ACTUAL lords of those same elements are completely absent and seemingly dont give a single shit. Its a bit weird.
It would absolutely make sense for them show up, and also fit with Blizzards general rule of cool-storytelling: an Elemental Lord stepping up to absolutely whoop an Incarnates ass could be a pretty dope cinematic.
And considering a good part of this xpac is already focused on the elements, i kinda doubt theyll play a big role in the next one. That would be the MoP/WoD orc issue all over again (which i personally had no issue with, but a lot of people did).
The crooked shitposter with no eyes is watching from the endless thread.
From the space that is everywhere and nowhere, the crooked shitposter feasts on memes.
He has no eyes to see, but he dreams of infinite memeing and trolling.
Not furry and degenerate enough for me, all of my scalie commissions have boobs and hair. That and only available to one class just kills it for me.
Pandaren seems about the only furry race that a proper degenerate furry got to design and I applaud them for that.
Hopefully the next furry race gets the same treatment.
Tikki tikki tembo, Usagi no Yojimbo, chari bari ruchi pip peri pembo!
This is kinda what I'm thinking as well.
In Cata, despite the fact that Deathwing was the trigger most of the destruction done to the zones were the result of elemental unrest or a sudden surge of nature booming. (Or in Northshire's case, a giant group of Old Horde orcs attacking a vineyard).
And one big possibility is the fact that Elemental Lords were held captive and weaponized by other groups.. Naga capturing Neptulon, The Dark Iron, Cult of Ragneros holding Smolderon captive, Prince Thunderaan having a civil war against Sarsarun over who should be the rightful heir of being the Wind Lord, and the possibility of Iridikron (who if we don't kill in DF and ends up appearing in the next expansion) could try to take Therazane's power and authority over the earth.. trying to dig his way to the core of Azeroth.
Those are just a few possibilities that come to my mind.
