it's legit. I was mowing Chris Metzen's lawn and I saw it on his PC.

If it is anything, its relatively new or AI art. Reverse image search didn't help much.

I mean that depends on the source of the leak, doesn't it. If it's like those art posters we saw at the print shop, then it makes sense if its closer.
If it's some sneaky photo from a preview screening then it could be a few months in advance. Keep in mind BlizzCon is only weeks away. 8 weeks fly by these days.
I could see that. Just completely dispell any rumours of 10.3 not being a thing.
Doesn't have to be elaborate either. 10.2 announcement with all the bells and whistles. Then a 10.3 announcement that is just the basic gist of what the theme or area would be.
Of course, another likely outcome is 10.2 announcement, and also 10.2.5 and 10.2.7.
The world revamp dream will never die!
Maybe there is a cinematic for the Dream/10.2 announcement? The main creature looks kind of Flame corrupted.
I've posted it on the wow subreddit to get a read of their opinion on it. So far:
- Horns look like Iridikron's. Could be AI.
- This is a screenshot from the cinematic.

Have we ever had that kind of quality of art for a patch, though?

Part of the reason is that Battlegrounds are like ducks.
BFA Saurfang cinematics were stretched out through patches. SL didn't have that because >SL.
They have been hyping the damn tree/dream for every patch since the end of SL so I can see them making this a big event.

Oh shit, actually, are those shoulderpads drakonid shoulders?

Calling it now, this is going to be another announcement like 7.2 and 7.3 in Legion.
10.2 info dump, and then instead of showing Argus, they give us a cinematic about 10.3.
Cannot wait for tomorrow!!
Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.
The only things in WoW these remind me of would be some kinda demon, like the Dreadlords, or those gargoyle creatures from Revendreth.
Nothing in Dragonflight springs to mind.
Fair point, forgot about those cinematics.

Funny you mention the stoneborn from Revendreth. They are the closest thing we've seen ingame that look like this creature. The gaunt, monstrous face; the "horns"; the ear; the nose is similar.
The only issue is the teeth. Stoneborn have long upper-canines/fangs like a vampire, whereas this one has long lower-canines/tusks like an orc or some demons.

It looks mostly like a fucked up Orc or Drogbar which I can see having some tie to a new continent connected to Kalimdor. And we know Thrall will be a main character...
Haha I'm so stoked, this is like wrath of the Bolvar all over again.
If this is legit, the background figure must be iridikron
It clearly seems like some sort of Orc. The armor seems like an Orc armor. May he be a Life Orc? Could the Heretics of Avaloren be evolved Orcs that Aggramar brought from Draenor thousands of years ago?
Ion stated in a recent interview that Orcs would have new lore coming soon, so...

I think that Orc looks Undead. Sunken in eye sockets, glowing red eyes, the amount of deep wrinkling and visible bone structure on the cheek, missing nose etc. Instead of a large ear on it's right, screen left maybe those are wounds.
If it's an undead Orc maybe it's another timey-wimey thing either Dargonflight patch or 11.0 dealing with an alternate timeline where the Orcs got the Scourge treatment instead of the humans.

So, i did the nelven heritage quests.
Personally, i think the questline on its own is actually quite good.
I had my fun, it was nice playing alongside Maiev (despite that absolutely horrendous escort quest), the other 2 nelves were interesting enough.
And running around Shadowhold slaying demons was pretty cool.
However, it was so lacking in any culturally relevant content that i just do not get how they designed the questline and said "yeah, this is the heritage questline"
Whole questline spent in Felwood, no other character pops up other than Maiev, larger nelven culture and history entirely irrelevant to the context of the questline.
Not a single mention of the current status of nelven society beyond "we big sad".
The only piece of culture in that questline was the marking ceremony at the end.
And while i enjoyed that part, it unceremoniously ends by getting ported to sw to receive your set.
I feel like this should've been additional quest content ala Baine or the Eredar quests next week, not the actual meat of the heritage quests.
They're both the same type of creature. They have this red scarf thingie around their necks, and similar shoulder pads.
It honestly doesn't feel like it fits anything.
Closest thing I can think of is if Blizzard does something very unexpected. Like, really unexpected. The Void attacks Azeroth, and all of a sudden, a surprise to everyone, some kind of army rushes out from the Shadowlands, or Draenor or whatever, unexpectedly and inadvertedtly saving Azeroth when they meant to invade it.
Or, Life goes bananas after the events of the Emerald Dream, causing both a revamp and some kind of uprising by creatures like the Botani and others.
