Good one. While i do hope thrall is a focal point i hope its more so an Exploration thrall leading us then a Elements are calling us thrall
Also when did they say there was nothing on the other side of azeroth?

    Can't quote an edit.

The primary human faction of Tanaris are called wastewanderers, and the set's aesthetic is just the normal wastewander aesthetic + goblins.

I mean they would just have to upscale. There are the wastewanderer bandits. And from the 4.1 trailer: "Zul'farrak, once the shining jewel of Tanaris; now nothing more than a wasteland".

So yes it has been used in the same breath. I think giving Tanaris a bit of a more rough, unforgiving climate would be cool. They could have frequent heavy sandstorms, which could or could not play into a feature.

I fixed my grammar, not the content of the message and yes, I know about the wastewanderers, but I've never seen them wearing anything else than typical desert attire, even less so goblin-inspired mechanical armor gear like this:

So yes, when I say this is not typical for Tanaris, I stand by it. Even Gadgetzan is not tech-heavy at all in WoW, it's very far from its Hearthstone depiction. So to me this set is an indication that things changed in Tanaris and could be an argument for a revamp.

    Is that clearer?

I'm not saying the wastewanderers were not a key lore feature of Tanaris, don't get me wrong, I'm just saying they've never been depicted in any way with that Borderlands/Mad Max aesthetic, or wearing what appears to be a gas mask? It's very much a continuity for Tanaris, as you said it's a very unforgiving climate... but the aesthetic feels like a big change from what we saw at the time in Vanilla and then later in Cata. Of course now the game is more modern and they can do cooler things but still, for me... it could point towards a revamp amongst other things!

Btw, I'm not saying I'm right, this is just my opinion and y'all can disagree as much as you like

Don’t they literally have a thunder dome?
All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.

I mean, the city has the "Thunderdrome", a 1:1 reference to Mad Max's Thunderdome as its central feature, complete with movie referencing NPCs. In Legion they even renamed the Inn to "The Road Warrior". I'm not even saying the set must be nothing, but there's nothing particularly new about the aesthetic of it, Tanaris has always been Desert stuff + Goblin stuff.

I'd actually expect a revamp to lean away from the mad max vibe because one would assume they'd bring Gadgetzan closer to its Hearthstone look and away from scavenger-waste-goblin-city.

I agree that would be super cool!

Yeah you're right, I stand corrected! I had completely forgotten about the dome and the other Mad Max difference. I guess it's time to drag an alt to Tanaris again

I'm currently mounted on my Wonderous Wavewhisker mount inside one of the Eco-Domes of the Netherstorm.

    Two things struck me:

    1. There's no flipping way this fish was made just to be a lil' pondy boi inside the Emerald Dream patch. It's so detailed. Animations, fx, textures are all amazing. Not only that, but that saddle just screams Azshara and Naga. I stand by my belief that it's a hint for 11.0.

    2. The Eco-Domes are freaking amazing, man. It's been years since I paid a visit and really took it all in.

Here's just another crazy expansion idea:

    • Queen Azshara invades Azeroth. Her key to success lies in binding the Elemental Planes to her will.
    • Fire is already under her control, and the others are under attack or in the process of being subjugated.
    • She hides out in the domain of water, seeking some ancient artifact or power. PureWater™?
    • The Etherals come to our aid. Although some are siding with the Void, others choose to defend Azeroth. They erect great Eco-Domes to shield some of our sanctuaries.
    • Thrall does his thing, obviously.
    • We enter each Elemental Plane. They're zones, with dungeons and a raid in them. Way fleshed out since the last time we saw them. Not just FIRE, hot hot hot! The domain of air might have cool Arabic-looking villages. The domain of water might have the progenitors of all merpeople, the original Jinyu/Ankoan. Or, or, or. They might go the Emerald Dream route and have the Elemental Planes sort of materialise on Azeroth, moreso than they did in Cataclysm. So there might be a zone near Uldum for example, that you may enter.
    • If we lose, Azeroth becomes a Void Lord or something. If we win, the world is revamped.

We saw it on the Vindicaar. Also I saw a tweet I need to look it up again.

    You’re right they do.

I can see where Farhad is coming from however. In a revamp hopefully Tanaris will lean more not being a Max Max/Mean Streets of Gadgetztan style zone as opposed to what it is now; which is a zone with a pretty poor identity as the zones threats are a mishmash of pirates, sand trolls, ogres and qiraji.

From an atmosphere perspective, Tanaris is one of my favourites. But it’s easily one of the worst zones in game for a cohesive story.

Did anything come of that eco-dome model? It was speculated to be part of the Eredar customization quests, but it wasn't.

I mean, it's a desert. Turning it into mad-max will make it more interesting, but I think the classic version sells it's theme very well: A desert with not much going on

If they do expand Gadgetztan to reflect is Hearthstone look, as well as taking up a good chunk of the zone - then a wastewander/Mad Max themed district could be fun. Make the Thunderdome a lot bigger and more epic too.

Or repurpose Zul’farrak from a troll city into a scavenger city.

It always gave me the same vibe as the Si Wong desert in Avatar: the Last Airbender, but yeah Tanaris is pretty cool although the story could use some update! We deserve a better Gadgetzan!

If you think a skybox is gonna keep them from popping a new landmass there, you haven't exactly been paying attention to the last 19 years of wow development.

I don't know about others but Dragonflight is elemental enough for me. The upcoming 10.2 also features alot of fire people/places/things.

I do like Azshara coming back though. I think Azshara's goal will be to awaken Azeroth (the Titan) and Freaky Friday swap minds or just like absorb her power. Though I think her trying to swap into a titan's body from her N'Zoth twisted form would be more interesting. Plus they could have the Azeroth titan interacting with everyone in Azshara's body.

Dragon Isles also isnt on the Vindicaar globe. Neither are Kul Tiras and Zandalar

Or eversong. (Funnily enough, Azure and Bloodmyst are)
    Or Pandaria.
    Or Teldrassil.
