A little while ago we saw that guy who has a page on the artstation with several heritage armor or class armor that (in my humble opinion) are much more badass than some xmogs made by Blizzard's own designers.

Now a dude has re-created the character selection screen and (again a fan being better than a pro) and it looks amazing, and with tons of customization options.

Finally, I leave here a beautiful love letter that I hope my beloved will read:

Dear Blizzard... you are no longer ashamed of copying what worked in other MMOs... so please start copying some fan ideas too or (who knows?!) hire that fan. The history of motorsport is full of cases like this where the manufacturer's users improved various car concepts and there's no problem with you doing the same.

it's not really that they are better, it's probably cause this shit at a company like blizzard would require like 30 meetings between designers, ui developers, artists, sound designers and all of their managers and ain't nobody got time for that

Personally I'd rather see dev time go into a bona fide in game photo mode as opposed to just the login screen. The Narcissus addon takes great strides to pull this off already and if I were to ever do a "Blizz hire this guy" thing, it'd be for that.

The problem with copying fan works is the threat of lawsuit is always there shit they even admitted the only reason they could use the art from a damned art contest is because they fucking hired the winner


And this might be my subjective opinion but..seems like a lot of work for something that most players are gonna see for like 2 minutes at most. I mean the old one isn't broken and I see myself doing this for one character once and forgetting about it the rest of the time

I agree, I would hope Blizz doesn't waste 1 sec making a pretty login screen with "features". While sure it's cool, there is a long laundry list I'd rather have.

While I wouldn't mind a slight improvement to the base character screen it really is kind of a waste of dev resources for a screen most people spend maybe 10 seconds on? But I never really thought about it until some comments I read mentioned addons can't alter character selection for whatever reason. I'd rather just see them make that a possibility.

addons load up with character thats the main reason tbh
it give you a loot of control over it to cause who need raid addons on gathering alt ;P
alternative would be having addons in menu but you would have to change loadouts each time you change character as each addon change = reloadui/relog

It's a useless eye candy.

And it's just a mock up. It's not "real". It's just graphical illusion, it's not a functional customisable UI that works, making stuff like this is probably like 0.01% time investment it would take to make a real thing with selectable background, options, and plethora of races and classes and so on.

The amount of shit ton of work that would have to be put in to make it a real things is 1000% not worth the dev time. It's pretty, but absolutely not worth it.

Artists at Blizzard could do the same thing and certainly something that looks even better if it was on the schedule. And for some reason you want them to work on something most people spend a split second on...

more customization is always good but this is basically asking for an animated wallpaper.

If they update login screen, I would rather want some easier navigation between alts/server, not.. this. Literally only new piece of info is guild name, which is kinda useless.

Where does being a fan implies that they are not professional? Do you think Bob the Argent Dawn just picked up 3D modelling program and just had a go at it over the weekend? It's of course amazing work and is really good quality, often better than in house work, but wording it as if it was just some amateur and not an actually skilled person makes no sense.
MDI trailers are made by a "fan" too, have you seen how badass was S3 trailer? That's why they hired "a fan" who happens to be actual professional.
