Both of you are arguing, in circles, at a wall. One person just wants to do it the old school way... the other is arguing the current way is superior.
Preference versus optimum. Move on already.
FOMO, gating, RNG, grind, overtuning, competition - endgame.
Solo MMO: no more humiliating queues and toxic competing.
Aggro and combat: game would only be better without obsoleted mechanics.
DF in a nutshell: GW2 copy-paste with AFK events and nothing to do.
For now it's no longer "game mechanic" or "lore choice". It's about inclusivity. Player shouldn't be forced to choose race, that doesn't properly identify him, to play certain class. I thought, that this goal should have been top priority for DF. And for now it seems to take years to achieve it, while it's not that hard for majority of classes. Only Druids, Shamans and Paladins require making some new artwork. And while Druids are major problem, Shamans and Paladins require very minor work to do. I just don't see, what prevents Blizzard from releasing Warlocks right now.
It's their major problem. Perfectionism. They delay major change with high priorty due to not having time to solve minor problems with much lower priority. Who cares about proper Shaman totems and Paladin class mounts? Release these new classes without them. Fix this problem in later patches. Problem solved.

Oh true forgot about that one.
Meanwhile dragon flight so far has added priest, mage, rogue, and monk to all races so far. 4 classes in. 6 months.
The only remaining "easy" one is warlock, but for many races it is a massive lord hurdle to make it work.
Like how can a maghar orc be a warlock. That just makes them a normal orc.
