Lets hope this is true, nothing will kill my hype for wow quicker than an underground expansion, Zaralek caverns was an awful slog.

    no
maybe a zone yes, but entire exp where main theme is underground no, same for underwater, i love vashyr (i know, i'm minority) but even me i doubt i'll love an entire exp of vashyr style
doubt blizz will do that, they will however make an underground zone, that's ok and works

Of all speculated next expansion scenarios, the underground expansion sounds the least interesting to me, so it probably has high chance of happening.

I trust you as much as i trust Toweliee. So let's say this: As long as Blizzard themselves are not sharing info about the new expansion take everything you hear/read with a grain of salt.

Honestly I could see an Undermine/Underground expansion be similar to Mists of Pandaria in appeal.

    Zangarmarsh.

You can do a simply google search and see how varied underground zones could be. Anyone saying that an underground continent would be monotonous is simply being disingenuous.
I didn't mean they'd all be the same. But, they'd all be underground.

What about Pyrix or Edj who are in the RPG sources of Kezan? Could be expanded to give more of a variety.

Zangamarsh is probably what your typical underground zone would look like.

What do you think monotonous means?

    And yes I would use those sources. I would also use Rakalaz as a possible antagonist;

Ahh the smell of Vashj'ir in the morning, that was such a beloved zone let's make an entire expansion underwater. Also get the old devs back = no swimming mounts until pathfinder in patch 11.2 what a joy.

If swimming got dragonriding treatment, would it be appealing?

Nope. There is a very fast swimming mount quest reward in Vashj'ir, it did not sway the overall bad reception to the positive. Too many players disliked being under water so much. Nothing to be done about that.

Personally I liked the zone, I even leveled another toon in it. But even so the thought of an entire expansion under water puts me off. It just doesn't feel right.

It's not just the speed, but the way you move. Anyway, i didn't try to persuade you. Was just curious.

Towellie has shown that he has some knowledge about future WoW content. With this in mind, how likely are we to be getting an underground or cave-themed expansion?
"Not true", "He doesn't know shit", etc. Yet all these links have suspiciously been removed.

Also, I liked Vash'jir but I agree the zone was very big + the speed too slow in comparison. That being said, I don't see what's wrong with Zaralek Caverns as a zone. It's too empty and not a lot to do inside, sure. But the zone itself is fine. Let's imagine we really had an underground expansion (fwiw I don't believe we'll do, as some have pointed out, a zone is plausible but an entire xpack, I doubt so), it would need to be really big so I'm not sure you'd feel as contained as people seem to think.

Again, IF we get any underground stuff, I think it'd probably be a single zone rather than a continent (maybe Khaz Algar located below Sargeras' sword that he removes when coming back to Azeroth with his fellow titans as Iridikron suggested?)

Tbh combine underground+water. Expansion campaigns are made to be played over 2 months or something. Now imagine we level in a giant underground area below the sword for 3 weeks until the raid is opened. Endboss of first wing (and yes, open first wing lfr directly) is unbeatable in story (we would still beat the encounter and get loot) and as a result we get a cutscene of the sword being removed. Cue some magic to pour rain down the hole. The giant underground cavern will be flooded. Every week a bit higher and campaign chapters would make good use of the ever climbing water. After 2 months we even get a little lake above where the sword was. That's when the endboss becomes available in lfr. Beating the endboss on any difficulty would reward a pimped up water mount of enormous speed, so raiders who clear it week one can enjoy it longer.

If it was a single zone, it wouldn’t be considered an underground expansion and Toweliee wouldn’t be using caves as a way to describe it. Cataclysm and Dragonflight have huge underground zones and they’re not considered underground expansions.

That is the very definition of "one of the most popular zones".
    Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK
